Jonathan, that's true. But what does that have to do with a new first time visitor (that's never been inside Gampel) to the BY reading a comment that features initials ? Those initials on the wall in Gampel won't be of any use to them in that instance. All of the regulars in the yard know who CD is. Hey, it was just a suggestion. Do as you wish.

Just getting to this now? And where did it say in the original post that it was a first time visitor who has never been inside of the Gampel?

Yes, just getting to it now. How many first time visitors to the Boneyard would you estimate have been inside Gampel? I'm guessing not many. I think you'll agree that there are many visitors here from all across the country. I'd venture to say that most of them have NEVER been to Connecticut, let alone Gampel Pavilion. I met a lot of UConn fans here in California when the team came west to play Stanford and UCLA.

I only met one (in the very small sample size I’m using here) that had been to Gampel (showed me pictures). My suggestion was more in reference to using initials in general. I’ve read comments in the “general “ section of the women’s yard, and posters used initials in reference to a player on a non-UConn team. I’m here several times a day every day, and I had no idea who the poster was talking about.

To answer you question, nowhere. I threw it in for effect. The fact remains that banners inside Gampel won't help visitors figure out who posters are referring to when they use initials. If I'm missing something, please advise. As I said, It was only a suggestion, DO AS YOU LIKE. This is not a big deal.

What about Olivia Owens? Wasn’t she ranked fairly high coming out of high school?
She was ranked higher than Maryland's current center Mimi Collins in HoopGurlz.

There are rumors that she may pull a Kiki Herbert Herrigan and return to Maryland. Right now the thinking is she is waiting to see if the NCAA will make transfers immediately eligible this season. She missed all of last year with an illness so if she transfers, that would mean she'll miss two years even though she'll be a prime candidate for a waiver. If I was OO, I would return to Maryland for my redshirt sophomore year, graduate (she is a great student), then transfer as an graduate student. Both Kiara Leslie and A'Lexus Harrison went this route.

She was ranked higher than Maryland's current center Mimi Collins in HoopGurlz.

Well, that is actually good to hear! I hope she does return as I think she can help Maryland and to see her happy. Side note is Mikesell transferring to Oregon is worse playing time situation than at Maryland. Not sure she will outplay all that talent especially after sitting out a year. Basically, me thinks Taylor messed up...thoughts?

This seems like way too much time invested to a tongue in cheek comment in response to other Boneyard responses.Head bang

Guessing playing time wasn't the issue as much as it's her role and her responsibilities at Maryland. Her role was reduced this year with Owusu entering the lineup. Mikesell's scoring, assists and rebounds were all slightly down this year and 70% of her shots were taken from 3 compared to 60% the year prior. She likely felt her future was to be pigeonholed as a 3pt specialist with Owusu/Reese on the roster.

On the flip side, Oregon utilized combo guards during the Ionescu era and she's joining a young roster with massive upside the next couple of years. That was probably a big sell. Playing time may be a concern but Mikesell is very good so I think she has a good shot to start and should take on a more varied role at Oregon.

I don't see the huge payoff for Oregon though with 6-7 other players lined up to be there in 2022 and 2023. Scherr, Pao Pao, and Parrish are all highly touted, Chavez is a comparable player although I'd probably bet on Chavez starting over Mikesell in 2021-22. Then you have Shelley who is a very good shooter, and another highly touted recruit in Bigby joining fall 2021. I don't think Mikesell is going to be that big of an upgrade compared to the players they have and her presence will cause playing time issues among that group. If they deal with more injuries or defects, it does give them added depth though. Time will show if the decision does or doesn't pay off for the Ducks.

That was a longwinded way of saying you sort of agree with me... ;)

Lol largely yes. I think there are some pretty big pros and pretty big cons to choosing Oregon. Definitely interested in seeing how it all works out.

As nice as Oregon's loading up, they are still missing a punch in a top 3 or even top 5 type of player.
Only one in program history was Sabrina (and I guess Erin Boley).
Maybe they will benefit in a balanced team though I guess.

Prince could be that player if she's healthy and fully recovered. People also seemed very high on Nyara Sabally pre-ACLs. Hebard/Satou both fit the mold even though both were under ranked coming out of HS. From day 1 collegiately it was clear they were top 5 kids in their respective classes.

I think they definitely have the pieces if players can stay healthy and are as good as advertised.

Fun facts of Oregon's current roster.

"The crazy thing is that Oregon's 2020-21 roster will have more former five-star recruits on it than any in school history, including last year's 31-2 team" Eight former 5 star recruits.

It also gives the Ducks nine players who were named their respective state Player of the Year in high school.
