I’m aware, I get what they’re doing. I just see where it’s heading, the goal posts continue to move until you can’t move them anymore.

Or the more simple explanation...why would NIL funds disclose their contracts? Private companies don't disclose private contracts to the public.

Yes, and I believe it inevitably leads to where everyone thinks it is going, but it will literally kill college athletics. So if you care about these sports, I suggest the public gets behind the compromise of NIL which allows students to get compensated for the value they're delivering as brand ambassadors, and ride this out for as long as we can.

To make them accountable. Private companies are still bound to pay that contract.

He's either Luka or Leon. There is no middle ground. I'm more Luka, personally. Hard to gauge from his competition, but he was legit at the NBA camps, received praise from ex-NBA players and NBA twitter people, and Hurley said "the Aussie" would've played minutes for this team this year. Maybe coachspeak, of course... His numbers are straight stupid in some of these tournaments.

Think of it at a very fundamental level. Name, image, likeness. The way it was described to us, a player who stars in a local commercial could be paid for it. A player who signs autographs could be paid for it. A player whose jersey sells in the fan shop could be paid for it. A player who makes an appearance/speaks to fans… etc. That is what being compensated for your name, image or likeness was supposed to be.

Is that what is actually happening in the real world? To some extent yes. But to a whole other extent, NIL directives are paying these kids “salaries” before they even do anything just to attend a university. How are universities in “bidding wars” before the athlete has even used his name, image, or likeness? That’s what it means by pay to play.

Now, back to the portal conversation I came here for…
 
2025-26 roster needs BBIQ and athletes. Furphy is known for his BBIQ and admits he needs to work on his athleticism-SnC commitment will help there. He will not be relied on to be a lights out shooter like Mullins but he does know how to score when given the opportunity. Blue collar/ hard working kid. Sounds good to me.

anyone ever see Delaware’s Izaiah Pasha? Only saw one game. Has good size & was awesome against UNC-Wilmington In their tourney in a Variety of wayys (rebounding, passing, scoring, seemed to have high IQ)

3 years left. His list so far is lesser schools, but a lot to like if we took an older guy.

maybe I saw his best game but was really impressive and noticed he was really competitive, too.

Ideal in my eyes is a transfer PG with 2 years left and a combo with handle with 1 year left, stop gap as the frosh mature.

I think the transfer portal would fix a lot of issues of not having to worry about regulating NIL.

Regulating NIL sounds like a nightmare to keep track of that many deals happening at once. Putting a reasonable transfer portal system in place can at least give kids second thoughts about jumping schools Willy nilly.

I wouldn’t mind a 1 time free transfer and then 1 year penalty outside of unique situations (like a coach leaving) just to slow this down some.

This is where Emmert screwed the pooch but sitting in a corner with his thumb up his backside instead of finding a way to frame what forms of compensation did and did not align with the ruling on NIL.

There is no way anyone can convince me that guaranteed payouts from collectives were what anyone had in mind when they started allowing players to make money off their name, image or likeness. Once the horse was out of the barn so to speak, it was over and now we have this free for all.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Adams looks very thin and weak to me at this point. Makes it very difficult to play in the big east. Hopefully he gets much stronger.

Yup. And now the universities and NCAA are trying to thread the thinnest of needles to keep college athletics alive. It's a clusterf---, but it's the one we have now. I'm advocating that we accept this reality and try to help thread the needle. And that means swallowing the pill that the transfer portal and the way players are using it is going to be the way...because any way to restrict it will just get automatically slapped down in courts and quicken the eventual conclusion that student athletes are "employees"
