I'd love to see an article on who were the biggest 2024-25 surprise portal transfers, ones who lived up to their projections and who were complete busts.
Kansas' AJ Storr, despite his outstanding last name, fits the latter category.
I imagine it's quite a challenge figuring out which portal players will fit your system & culture and put up the #s you envision, who you think you have a good shot at landing for a reasonable portal price.
We all know UConn needs at least 1 big combo/point guard. I'd like to see them land a long physical athletic wing who can attack the basket and defend.
Whatever else depends on who sticks around and who decides to leave.
This whole portal mess has to be a nightmare for most coaches who are trying to construct a balanced roster but really don't know who's staying and who's leaving.
Last year Hurley had a good idea about this. Not wanting to go down the Mahaney rabbit hole, but he clearly didn't turn out to be the Big East physical level PG he had hoped. Reed Jr, albeit inconsistent, has been a solid get in the Sanogo mold. And somehow our collective perimeter players have really struggled to defend and attack the basket, though have improved some lately. I'm not sure any of the incoming freshmen look like plus athletes and lock down defeners, so adding at least one would seem to be a good idea.
