Some thoughts on the game:

  • We can exhale. Lou survived. She wasn’t at her best, but I’ll take Lou at 75-80% any day.
  • Towson is an athletic team, and a good 1st round opponent in the Big Dance.
  • Nice balanced scoring effort by the starting 5. When everybody scores, UConn is very tough to beat.
  • I loved Christyn & Megan’s aggressiveness today. Let’s hope they play just like that for another 5 games.
  • Molly is putting a lot of pressure on herself by knocking down a 3 in every game. The crowd now expects it.

One of the best games of the year for UConn. They blew out Towson, but as was noted above, Towson is a physical team that seems way better than the average 15 or 16 seed. They're not a pushover.

UConn was simply playing superb basketball. And the team played superbly without reliance on KLS. It seems to be showing through how this team evolved with KLS on the bench.

Good defensive play by ONO, and very crisp game by Williams.

The next game with Buffalo could be very interesting. Again, I don't think it will be the usual second round pushover. Could be a minor trial.

-If CW looks for her shots, we're a completely different team

-Towson tried a bit of mugging early on ...the refs called it, and it didn't effect the game
Quality officiating.

The Collier / Samuelson career scoring watch -

Tina Charles (2006-2010) is currently in 3rd place with 2346 points since Breanna Stewart (2012-2016) passed her during her senior year. Charles was in 2nd place after graduation for 5 years (2010-2015), and bumped down to 3rd place sometime during the 2015-2016 season.

Collier began today in 4th place with 2299 points. Samuelson in 5th place with 2259.
Collier had 23 today + 2299 = 2322. She needs just 25 points to pass Charles for 3rd place on the UConn women's career scoring list. Stewie is resting "comfortably" in 2nd place with 2676 points. That's a bridge too far for collier and Samuelson to try and cross.

Samuelson scored 11 today. 2259+11=2270. Lou needs 77 points to pass Charles. I don't think it's going to happen. Had she not gotten hurt, she would have passed Charles already. I sincerely hope she proves me wrong. THAT will be a plate of crow I would gladly wolf down, grinning with every mouthful. :p

Unless Lou can average 15.4 pts over the next 5 games (IF they go that far), she'll finish there.

Don't be surprised if Collier............. passes Charles Sunday against Buffalo. That would be a wonderful and memorable way to closeout her last game in Gampel Pavilion. Hopefully Collier won't be in 3rd place too long.........if you get my drift. ;)

I missed the game- how did Katie Lou look? Did she move around easily?

No time to go to sleep on anyone. If it weren't for the fact that it's Tourney-TIme, Sunday would be a classic trap game. Buffalo has talent; and like every other team that reaches the second round, it has confidence.

Lots of things went right early today. Towson got a lot of good looks early and really outhustled us for the first half of the first quarter. But their shots weren't going in. And ours were (which can happen). You could see Towson losing just a bit of heart as our 3pt shots dropped and the lead stretched from 9 to 13 to 18. And before you knew it, the rout was on.

Collier needs 7 rebounds to catch Stewie for 4th.

she played a very solid game.
Talking with Bob Joyce post-game, Lou observed that her very presence on the floor draws the defense, and that her teammates know that and they exploit it. Just another way that she has learned to contribute that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. She's got great basketball smarts.

Bump.

Thank you, Sir.

SHE CAN!!!! I don't think she will. Lou was subbed out for ONO at the 4:51 mark of the 3rd qtr. She never re-entered the game. I understand why. Geno could care less about her assault on Charles' career scoring mark. He needs her for tomorrow and the rest of the tournament. With the game well in hand, Lou was right where she needed to be (on the bench) at that point in the game.

If given her choice of another "chip", or passing Charles, we know which one she (we) would prefer.

Towson did indeed have length and quickness. Jeter recorded 7 steals!

I thought the starting 5 looked good. The bench looked pretty good.

In particular, Phee was machine-like, and Squeaks was really squeakin'.

I think I was one of the most Anti-Stubble BY's but I think Geno is rocking the tailoired beard look with some 'silver fox' coloring? :)

As Geno would point out, "She's no longer a freshman."
In March there are no Freshman; they have had a full season to reach the next plateau. KLS was KLS, not 100 percent but magnitudes above where I would expect.
I expect we are seeing the true CW she has much growth to do but this NCAA she will excell. My complaint she was open and didn't shoot when the team went dry. Good start.
PS, you were right in a former posting about KLS and her back.
