Clearly Dawn didn't coach this game like she would have were it an Olympic contest but she has some lineup issues to figure out. Opponents are going to spread Team USA out like Australia did today which is going to limit the effectiveness of all those bigs. The offense was bogged down by too many forced passes inside, poor perimeter shooting and a lack of movement on offense. This is not 2016. To bring up Richard Cohen's point, the 3 position remains a hole that needs to be filled. There's no Maya Moore walking through the door.

Still, no need to panic. Diana will help and the team will shoot better than it did today. It's just not going to look as pretty as it has in other years.

The guards are still bad, too much dribbling, by Gray, and Diggins Smith, Loyd, and Atkins.

Speaking of the Olympics, does anyone know how TV coverage of USWNT soccer will work? First live game is July 21, I think, before official opening ceremonies. But it will be played at 4:30am on the east coast and it is a big game for USWNT. They open against Sweden who has been a problem for them. Any insights on how/where to watch?
USA Network.

Olympic events will be spread out among their affiliated networks; NBC, NBCSN, USA, MSNBC, CNBC, USA, BRAVO.

Both men and women team lose to Australia. Regress?
Both Ezi and Talbot played well for Australia. They might end up as good without Liz, they spread the floor, leave space for plays to be made. The best USA lineup might be Sue, DT, Collier, Stewie, and A'ja. Let all the others come in at other times. Tina, Griner, and Sylvia can't guard away from the basket. Ezi went around Griner, and Sylvia with no problem.

No way that lineup ever happens.

Collier was -16. Fowles was -11. Wilson was -9.

Not sure who was on the floor when Australia came back and took the lead, but if you look at the +/- stats, those 3 were far and away the worst with Charles at -3.

0-3 for 0 points in 15 mins w/ -16 +/-; 2-4 for 6 points in 17 mins w/ -3 +/-; and 2-5 for 4 points in 10 mins w/-11 +/-. Definitely get why there was no room for Nneka among the bigs.

The only player I was looking at closely was Collier who did not play a minute of the first half and almost all of the 2nd half. While Naphessa looked pretty good on defense, her offense was just not there. Napheesa needs to play in some structure and I do not see that with the USA team. And her 3 pt shot looks horrible. She has way too much arm movement and it looks like an off to the side shotput. Bizarre after her last WNBA game where she was going through the Sparks like Patton. Nerves?

Wow, that was an amazingly accurate prediction.

Expected from say a Lady Vol fan but not the FarmFan. I’m surprised.

You shouldn't be. Cardinal fans are very loyal, just as Nneka was extremely loyal to USA Basketball over the past 4 years and she has contributed as much to women's professional basketball as anyone. Shame that loyalty was returned. I will ride or die with that one.

Chelsea Gray is that backup PG. She's arguably a better scorer than Sue at this point in their careers (much more dangerous going to the basket) and is currently second in the league in apg (on Wed night, she had 7pts and 3 assists in 18min).

As for 3pt shooting, I believe Atkins is on the team to be a 3 and D player off the bench. She's shooting 40% from 3pt range this season, and made 2/3 on Wed night. Bird remains a deady 3-point shooter, and Loyd was in the 3-pt contest for a reason.

They'll be fine.
They weren't today. I don't think any of the players you mentioned are of a caliber of a younger Sue or DT or of a Lindsay Whalen or a Seimone Augustus.

I agree. I am sorry but they are not pure point guards like a Sue or a Lindsay Whalen coming off the bench. They were chosen from the WNBA team with a corresponding big presumably to get the ball inside. Maybe we should press the guards on rotation except when Sue and DT are both in.

Fair enough. Just don’t begrudge UConn players as you are a welcomed guest on this forum.

The way the team wins gold is underneath but the ball has to get there on the second, third or fourth pass and with movement. I don't think the chemistry is good, at least not now, and by that I don't mean personalities or team spirit, I mean composition by position and skill and complementary players. If anyone can change this it is D by her sheer presence and command. She ain't going out a loser.

I didn't see the game but Wilson went 5-5 scoring 12 points but only played 12 minutes. She also so started in the All star game and did not play a whole lot of minutes.

Bad performances are bad performances. And I didn't single out just UConn players - I singled out the posts who were selected over Nneka.
Why bring it here then? No need to do that here. Nobody here picked the team. Take it to your own board or troll USA BB on twitter.

BTW, trolling over exhibition games is really lame. At least wait until the games count. LOL

Never said you did. I recommended you don’t. Just a suggestion.

I didn't see the game but apparently it didn't go very well.
Wasn't so hot the other day either...
Remember when Boneyarder's, myself included, disparaged Dawn's coaching iq?
Then she won the natty and it all went away...didn't convince me though.

It's easy to speak about Nneka (who can't play yet)...but whose toughness when she is fit is admirable.

Do I not remember a major college talent being regularly chosen?

Something is definitely off when Ezi Magbegor outplays the American all-star bigs.

Something is definitely off when Jewel, Sue and Skylar score less than 10 between them.
and Brittany, Tina and Syl score 17 between them.
And Aja is 5 for 5 and plays only 12 minutes plus...
And Pheesa and Skylar shoot 0% from the floor.

Something is going on...with this team...doesn't seem to be working.
It's early, they may yet pull it together.
But they remind me of this season's heartless Yanks (in a different sport)
Lot's of perceived talent; not much in the way of results.
