Just got a text that Jay Wright is a no, he's done with coaching.
I think Seth Davis is annoying but I doubt he would have said what he did yesterday if there was any chance Jay Wright was going to the Knicks

I can't believe the Knicks are paying Thibs $30M not to coach, that is staggering. Any other business the GM loses his job for extending him last season.

I'm torn between thinking that payment means they will NOT also pay a buyout for their next coach (Udoka, Kidd or ??) OR that they are throwing around money anyway so who cares about another multi-million dollar buyout?!

i for one have to believe, you do not make this kind of decision without already having a plan!

They’re such a sorry-ash franchise that their fans actually think the GM is some genius. 30M for Thibs to sit on the couch. 5 first rounders for an average Mikail Bridges. And somehow Rose is considered some kinda genius because Brunson decided to take a big pay cut.

I don't think anyone thought that, at least nobody worth listening to. Everyone had the series going 6 or 7 even if the Knicks were predicted to win, which should tell you what the opinion of Thibs is to swing it to a 4 game sweep
So do you believe that A) Pacers were the better team or B) that Carlisle outcoached Thibs?

IMO, the Pacers played how they played all year and the Knicks tried to adjust but couldn't because of the rigidity of rotations played under Thibs.

I did think though that Thibs outcoached Mazzulla, Although that was more the Celtics believing their style would win out due to superior personnel and then both the style and the personnel ending up being inferior.

Pitino? Star of the season down in NYC.
I don't think the Knicks will offer a college coach.
I don't think so either, but, if they offered Pitino he'd be on it like white on rice. No need to move coupled with a last money grab before he retires.

Knicks were the better and more talented team, and Carlisle outcoached Thibs

You don’t move on from Thibideau to hand the reins to a college coach with no NBA experience. Danny is a great coach but the Knicks just made the conf finals. You only make this move if you feel someone else can win the whole thing. Malone is the guy.
Danny is a great COLLEGE coach. NBA is a different game. I LOVE Dan Hurley. Serious man crush on the guy. But he would burn out by game 60. We all know that. And he has said it before: he is where he belongs. I do not think he is going anywhere.
The other factor is the current Knick team is not a Danny team. Their best player loves to control the ball, and is also their worst defender. The Knicks sucked on defense with a defensive minded coach. Can't wait to see how they do next year with someone new.

I doubt NBA owners fire coaches because of delusional fans.
Hey Bull, great point there: the Knicks just fired a guy who brought their team to the Eastern Conference Finals. Back to back deep runs. 50 plus wins. That tells me they are run by a delusional front office. I would want no part of that.

Yep, among other things it was insane that the Knicks were trying to run with the Pacers thru the first 4 games.

Given that the known team styles won out in both the Knicks v Celtics and the Knicks v Pacers series it wasn't unreasonable to conclude they had topped out (or come close to topped out) with Thibs. Then it seems obvious that Bridges and at least 1 other between KAT and Brunson wanted a new voice. My bet is on the assistant and not just because a coup would be fun.

Yeah right:p:p:p:eek:
Next joke
Missing The Unicorn and Sam H didn't help
Thibs did do a nice job coaching vs the Celts

If offered, I am 99.9% confident Hurley says no. It's that 0.1% that I am nervous about. HeHe
