Listening to wfan all morning waiting to hear DHs name. Not once was it mentioned. 12 other guys mentioned never Dan. You dont have to like that station but they at least would've said it.
Looks like J Bryant is the dude.

All of this speculation about who is going to replace Thibs. I will go with the people who put their money where there mouth is, the guys that set the betting odds. Glad there is a betting line on this at this point it is your best tool to guess who the Knicks next HC will be. I am happy to see Hurley is not one of the favorites.

I am a Knicks fan and although I understand him being fired is not fair, I am not certain how much fairness was or would be part of the decision making process not just for the Knicks but any team.

I agree with the theory that this was player driven. When you have Bridges saying I would not mind playing less minutes, I really don’t think he was as much speaking for himself as he was trying to be a leader. You have to have buy in 100% from the players to succeed in the NBA. I mean no way Ty Lu is thought of so highly on his pure x and o coaching skill. Lu is a consensus builder and forges great relationships with his players.

Thibs is just too rigid for today’s game, imo. Look what happened when he dipped into his bench finally in this series. When you have two stars who are really bad defensively, one who is physically, because of height and overall lateral quickness (Brunson) and one who will probably never exert maximum effort on defense (Towns), you have to figure out rotations that lessen that impact. To do that you have to play more than 7 players.

Yes I hate to see this but this team in my opinion has enough talent and only needs one more very good rotation piece to get back to the ECF next year and maybe further next year. Not sure Thibs was going to get this group to take the next step.

Is that thinking unfair…..absolutely…but we all know life ain’t fair.
I somewhat agree. Talent wise, their still 3rd in the East at best but probably 4th or 5th. League wide their probably 9th or 10th. Therefore, I don't think there is any coach that gets them a title with this roster. With that said, its a player driven league (as you mentioned) and 5 years in today's NBA is actually pretty long. There are only 2 other coaches tenured longer (crazy!). This wasn't a surprise to me - if you haven't won a title, you're gone in 3-4 years, typically. That's just how it goes now.

Because Tatum is hurt it’s easy enough to envision a path to the final next year for NY but I agree with you that they’re nowhere as good as OKC. OKC is the favorite to win it this year, is under the luxury cap AND has a bunch of first round picks. They can be reallllly good in the next few years.

Dan was at a big awards ceremony last night. Was just talking to a guy who talked to Dan Hurley early on in the night. Dan was way too chill for a guy that was looking to bolt this place.

Danny playing possum. He wants to be the highest paid coach in the NBA and will play the waiting game for the Knicks to cave to his demands.

Another writer saying Hurley to the Knicks doesn't make much sense. From everything out there it sounds like we can all relax.

For all I know, Hurley is on the phone right now, hearing out Dolan. I just doubt a situation could be presented that would truly interest Hurley.

Most NBA players would rather stretch out their prime and their careers than play an extra 5 mpg for a single season. It is a no brainer from the players' standpoint, and something that Thibodeau doesn't get. Budenholzer is kind of a choker as a game coach, but he got another year out of Middleton's prime with load management, and kept Giannis, Lopez and Holiday fresh for the playoffs. There is no way Thibodeau would have won a title in 2021 with that Bucks' team given the way Thibs coaches.

I don't think Malone is a great game coach, but he got the Nuggets to the playoffs in 2023 with only one starter playing over 70 games and no player averaging 34 mpg or more.

Malone and Budenholzer have rings. What does Thibodeau have?
$30million

Phew! Good thing he's way too chill to bolt! Thanks, Dove!

Hey Bull, great point there: the Knicks just fired a guy who brought their team to the Eastern Conference Finals. Back to back deep runs. 50 plus wins. That tells me they are run by a delusional front office. I would want no part of that.
2 words - Jim Dolan

My favorite part of the Hurley coaching rumors is when he turns down an opportunity and then opposing fans start pretending the organization was never interested in the first place. Already seeing it on different platforms.

"he 52-year-old focused on the Huskies’ roster for the 2025-26 season rather than discuss whether he’d be a fit to lead several former Villanova stars now wearing orange and blue."

didn't know there were media companies still employing Matt Ehalt for work

Like the Raptors did with Dwayne Casey in 2018? Hell, Casey even won Coach of the Year a week before they fired him. I'd say that move worked out for the delusional Raptors front office.

Thibs' ceiling has been a running joke in the NBA forever. He's the guy to help turn around a team, not the guy to get you to the mountaintop.
