That's what I was thinking. If the Knicks are in win now mode then why would they take a chance on a coach who's never coached in the NBA?
Dom Amore agrees.

Dan Hurley would be a coaching hire for an NBA team looking to blow things up and start over, with patience for a new process, not the Knicks, not now. Hurley, 52, with two national championships under his belt, is smart enough to identify a minefield without driving into it. He also knows who he is. If he wants to coach in the NBA, he’s smart and skilled enough to adjust his coaching style to fit, but could he ever be happy doing so?

The people who would are basically the only ones I pay attention to these days.
You told me to stay out of your state. I guess that counts as attention.

Yeah right:p:p:p:eek:

Missing The Unicorn and Sam H didn't help
Thibs did do a nice job coaching vs the Celts
That’s the point, with essentially no Porzingis, comprised/injured Brown & Holiday plus no Hauser the Celtics team that took the court v Knicks was worse than perceived or on paper.

Jay Wright seems like the logical choice.

They could change the name to the New York Wildcats.

Or the Villanova Knicks
The bigger splash than either Wright or Dan Hurley is Jeff Van Gundy.

I just asked ChatGPT: Take the Knicks 25-26 roster and give me the starters and strategic substitutions at select intervals as though you are the coach.

The results are pretty impressive. Wow...I just saved the Knicks 80 million bucks.

I don't think Hurley is going to the Knicks. Having said that, this is a classic non-denial denial.
That’s possible but I was responding to a comment saying the whole article is just Amore’s opinion. A Hurley quote is still relevant even if it proves untrue.

Hey Bull, great point there: the Knicks just fired a guy who brought their team to the Eastern Conference Finals. Back to back deep runs. 50 plus wins. That tells me they are run by a delusional front office. I would want no part of that.
Agree completely.

My buddy is friend's with Jay Wright. He got it from his brother in law Tom Pecora who got it from Jay Wright.

Listening to wfan all morning waiting to hear DHs name. Not once was it mentioned. 12 other guys mentioned never Dan. You dont have to like that station but they at least would've said it.
Looks like J Bryant is the dude.

All of this speculation about who is going to replace Thibs. I will go with the people who put their money where there mouth is, the guys that set the betting odds. Glad there is a betting line on this at this point it is your best tool to guess who the Knicks next HC will be. I am happy to see Hurley is not one of the favorites.

I am a Knicks fan and although I understand him being fired is not fair, I am not certain how much fairness was or would be part of the decision making process not just for the Knicks but any team.

I agree with the theory that this was player driven. When you have Bridges saying I would not mind playing less minutes, I really don’t think he was as much speaking for himself as he was trying to be a leader. You have to have buy in 100% from the players to succeed in the NBA. I mean no way Ty Lu is thought of so highly on his pure x and o coaching skill. Lu is a consensus builder and forges great relationships with his players.

Thibs is just too rigid for today’s game, imo. Look what happened when he dipped into his bench finally in this series. When you have two stars who are really bad defensively, one who is physically, because of height and overall lateral quickness (Brunson) and one who will probably never exert maximum effort on defense (Towns), you have to figure out rotations that lessen that impact. To do that you have to play more than 7 players.

Yes I hate to see this but this team in my opinion has enough talent and only needs one more very good rotation piece to get back to the ECF next year and maybe further next year. Not sure Thibs was going to get this group to take the next step.

Is that thinking unfair…..absolutely…but we all know life ain’t fair.
I somewhat agree. Talent wise, their still 3rd in the East at best but probably 4th or 5th. League wide their probably 9th or 10th. Therefore, I don't think there is any coach that gets them a title with this roster. With that said, its a player driven league (as you mentioned) and 5 years in today's NBA is actually pretty long. There are only 2 other coaches tenured longer (crazy!). This wasn't a surprise to me - if you haven't won a title, you're gone in 3-4 years, typically. That's just how it goes now.

Because Tatum is hurt it’s easy enough to envision a path to the final next year for NY but I agree with you that they’re nowhere as good as OKC. OKC is the favorite to win it this year, is under the luxury cap AND has a bunch of first round picks. They can be reallllly good in the next few years.

Dan was at a big awards ceremony last night. Was just talking to a guy who talked to Dan Hurley early on in the night. Dan was way too chill for a guy that was looking to bolt this place.

Danny playing possum. He wants to be the highest paid coach in the NBA and will play the waiting game for the Knicks to cave to his demands.
