Thursday 1st Round games thread

Should have known that there would be some big upsets today!
If there was going to be a 2/15 upset this was it. The Ivy League was the #13 league this year. Not your typical 15 seed.

What was the last 2 seed to win? Was it MTSU or Lehigh? Who did MTSU beat? What an upset…really amazing day so far.

Congrats to Princeton !

This game is reminded me of the 1996 first round against UCLA.

Princeton spent most of the last six minutes one or two scores behind and just out executed UCLA in the last minute to win
It’s hilarious because in my mind I think of that as a massive upset, but they showed a clip from that game today and it was a 4/13 game.

There‘s just not much difference between any of these teams anymore. Unless you’re a 1 seed you better show up in round 1 playing well or you’re going home.

You just can’t let these lower seeds hang around. When you’ve got them down you’ve got to step on their head.

The portal and the fact that top talent doesn’t stay in college has created far more parity than we like to admit when our Huskies lose games. Experience has always been critical in March, despite what Michigan did one time.

Focus on D and rebounding and UConn can put teams away. Can’t get caught up in shots not falling.

Good lord Arizona has played scared.
correct. Their nervousness was flashing like neon lights through the screen whether it was turning down open shots, short arming shots, not moving around as usual, missing defensive assignments, etc.

Clark been in college way too long to do something that stupid

Here's the thing. Did Tony Bennett think to warn his players that should they get trapped like that in the backcourt, call the last timeout so that they can reset?

I was screaming at the TV that calling the timeout was the correct call, and was equally baffled when after-game analysts mentioned he needed to throw the ball higher in the arena to burn out the clock (for the record, an NFL punt would not have produced enough hang time to eliminate 8.4 seconds of clock).

Reminds me a little of the 1993 Santa Clara (Steve Nash's freshman year) win over Arizona where AZ screws around the whole second half thinking they can take over at any time.

Princeton isn't even playing that well.
usually see the big upsets because the underdog shot the lights out, but that's simply not the case here. Princeton only shot 4-25 from 3, 40% from the field, and only 3-5 FTs. Arizona played that much worse.

this exactly. Too many times you see players' effort on the defensive end lacking because their shots are not falling. When shots are not falling the defense has to be even better to keep your team in the game.

That's why I make crappy choices in bracket pools. Just poop the bed early, burn the bracket and enjoy the games.

Congrats to Princeton! Helps soften the blow of them beating Yale in the Ivy final.
I was slightly annoyed when they beat Yale because I wanted a 2nd Connecticut team in the NCAAT. But Princeton showed me up, hell, showed everyone up, that they deserve to be here by beating Arizona.
