Thursday 1st Round games thread

Why do we fill out brackets? Because it's fun? Well, you know what? . . .

BRACKETS AREN'T FUN!

Three games in and the only game I got right was the 8-9. My "sure" pick (UVA) goes down. My upset pick (Utah St.) succeeded only in upsetting ME!

I've been following CBB since 1975. I do research before I fill in names. Next year, I do two brackets -- one the usual way, one using coin flips. It will be interesting to see which scores better.

Imagine if I had real money on this.

CORRECTION: Must have gotten a bad score. I'm 0-3.
My wife won a pretty big office pool when she made her picks based on which school had the best music program, which metro area had the better symphony orchestra etc. If neither was clear, she went with a more analytical approach - best mascot.

Sounds like a very data driven approach. I will give that a shot.

Charleston is hanging around with SD State. Pretty good game.

Utah St a top 10 3-point shooting team in the country. 0/11 from 3 at the half, only down 4.
Can't turn to ice during the Tourney especially if you're a shooting team. We could go cold tomorrow but win with rebounding, put backs and transition. At least against less athletic or physical teams. Hope we don't have one but not everyone can afford a cold spell.

I picked Furman and Maryland, so I am doing pretty well so far today.
It's a shame that the officials can't control themselves in some of these games and those refs were garbage. The game should be about the kids. They took that away.

Man I need SD State to come through.

That's nice except Charleston is winning, then beating Furman.
You were saying? ;)

The CoC coach is going to be a bigtime coach if he gets a Power 5 job. He gets everything out of a moderately talented team. They shot 32% and were there at the end.

Princeton still doing classic Princeton things. Not sure how much gas they have left though. No more TOs.

This game is reminded me of the 1996 first round against UCLA.

Princeton spent most of the last six minutes one or two scores behind and just out executed UCLA in the last minute to win

Reminds me a little of the 1993 Santa Clara (Steve Nash's freshman year) win over Arizona where AZ screws around the whole second half thinking they can take over at any time.

Princeton isn't even playing that well.
