Philly - I have said the same, and agree that with all the skilled players on the team with one or more years of playing D1 basketball (including Butler) it is likely that no freshman will start at least the beginning third of the season.
But ... just think there seems to be this love fest for Collier (deservedly - she is going to be a very good player here) at the expense of Lou who is a pretty incredible player as well. Of the new players coming in to the system - Butler most closely corresponds to the talents of Stef and Kiah who left over the last two years, while Lou most closely corresponds to last years departed starter KML.
Love Gabby's game but unless her outside shooting has truly blossomed she is still going to primarily be a slashers/rebounder
Ekmark I am hoping will show the potential she arrived in with a healthy year.
Chong is going to be vital in spelling Kia and Mo
Love Collier, but she too is a player that does most of her damage from 15 feet in.
Have really high hopes for Boykin, but she wants to be near the basket as well.
Butler is the only true center on the roster
Lou is likely to be the best new player from 15 feet out from the basket, and that is a role just vacated by the all time 3 pt made NCAA record holder.
Uc - If all the posters just focus on your last sentence there is no doubt that Lou is the best. Last weeks results were proof positive that Lou and Mo are the best shooters. Lou has the HS numbers, the AA numbers, and the International competition numbers as evidence of great shooting ability. Now add in the college shooting contest.
Final thought on your Collier comment--(love fest for Collier.) My analogy-- In Philly when the Eagles win a game everyone immediately says they are going to win the Super Bowl and when they lose (even the next week) many say they really stink! Until they win the next week. It is what they see at the moment.
It seems that Collier was in the news and got so much more press than Lou in the last few months. As we know, Lou was not at the U-19 finals and Collier was competing with Aja Wilson as the best player on the team. There were arguments about who the MVP was and how Collier would be the 5th starter, etc., etc. Collier was fresh in everyone's mind and received all the attention. Notice that Lou is getting more attention now with the great shooting of last week. When Gabby has her first great game then the conversation will flow to her and her outstanding abilities. The same with Butler.
One thing we can agree on ---- As incoming frosh, Lou and Collier are special!!
