Don't forget the roof collapsing shortly after a Whalers game. That was pretty well-known.

Okay, it’s known for UConn sports and narrowly-avoided disaster.

I'm a little sad we couldn't have gotten one of our major Fortune 500 companies to back the name to match our Big East contemporaries

Why would you care? I checked - PeoplesBank’s money is also green.

They’re also expanding in the state and the majority of their commercial loan business is already in-state.

A company looking to grow their business in Connecticut wants to invest in the state’s civic center? Sign me up.

Providence got 900k a year for Amica Mutual Pavilion and we're getting 2 mil for PBA. Way too much whinging about the value CT companies see in the civic center.

Bingo.

Fifteen Fortune 500s in Connecticut. RI has five. CRDA should have done better.

good chance PeoplesBank is acquired before their 10 year contract expires. The annual sponsorship fee appears to be a significant % of their annual net income.
The business irony is, given their size, that if they are successful, they would likely be acquired. If they fail, that will also likely happen. Granted, they are a mutual bank not a stock owned bank. Yet, CT Mutual no longer exists.

Actually, PeoplesBank is paying $850,000 in year one.

People will call it whatever they want. Everytime I go back home to Philadelphia, i cross the Mario Cuomo Bridge. I still call it the TapanZee. The Tapan Zee bridge doesn't exist anymore. I have no agenda. Old habits die hard.
My late father used to make up pun sentences for landmarks while on road trips:

“Some people like to knock on zee door, but I like to Tappan Zee Bridge”.

“Some people like to paddle a pine, but I like to Roanoke”.

I like the name. It sounds like an NBA arena, but I'll still call it the Civic Center. I'm old.

It's an extremely bland name but who cares.

Always be the civic center to me.

I was going to say perhaps PeoplesBank is already an acquisition target. This is a prett big sponsorship for such a small bank. Webster used to be a big sponsor so I thought it would be interested in the naming rights.

In October they can host Oktoberfest at the VolksBank. $2 Brats and Brews

Wow I totally conflated the two. I guess I have no idea who PeoplesBank is
It is located in one of the worlds great banking centers, Holyoke Massachusetts. Across the street from the Holyoke Mall. And it’s the largest bank in… well south western Massachusetts. But they do have a number of ATMS in Connecticut Walgreens locations, so there is that. Apparently the Danbury Municipal Emploees Credit Union was already committed.
