I like it, the XXL Center. When the arena reopens in a few months, it will feature new loge boxes, general seating, and upgrades to host a wider array of events.
The focus of these renovations is to improve the physical building while also improving the experience for fans and artists.
“The transformation will include all new lower bowl seating, a refreshed concourse, bunker suites, loge boxes, a beautiful event level club. As well as first class locker rooms for the athletes that play here, and reimagined artist dressing rooms for the artists that play here,” said Ben Weiss, General Manager, PeoplesBank Arena.

New name announced for the XL Center
The ownership group of what will soon be the ex-XL Center announced a new name for the venue.www.wfsb.com
Officially that was the name and for a while the Courant called it that.No one ever actually called it that, it’s always been the Civic Center
I'm 27 years old and call it the Civic Center with my friends lolI honestly hadn't heard anyone that goes to games call it the "civic center" for a long time. It's been the XL for years.
Really it seems like a no-brainer for Honda to have bought the naming rights. The 'Civic Center' named is no ingrained for locals so they must deem it not a big enough ROI.
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the arena bowl still technically called the Veterans Memorial Coliseum? At least that's what the signage says when you enter it at the main entranceAfter the New Haven Arena there was the New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum but the original name up north was the Hartford Civic Center Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Exhibition Center.
Really? If you're young then I can see that since it was a while ago. A bunch of people in this thread say they call it the Civic Center so I'm guessing that's representative of the general population having quite a few people who still call it that.I honestly hadn't heard anyone that goes to games call it the "civic center" for a long time. I say never will happen. It's that bad.over under the amount of games it takes Raftery to make a corny “the bank is open at the bank” joke after a banked in shot
Don't forget the roof collapsing shortly after a Whalers game. That was pretty well-known.I am happy that someone wanted to make an investment and associate with UConn athletics because, really, that’s the only thing the arena is known for.
Wasn't it after a UConn-UMass game?Don't forget the roof collapsing shortly after a Whalers game. That was pretty well-known.

I'm a little sad we couldn't have gotten one of our major Fortune 500 companies to back the name to match our Big East contemporaries
Providence got 900k a year for Amica Mutual Pavilion and we're getting 2 mil for PBA. Way too much whinging about the value CT companies see in the civic center.
Fifteen Fortune 500s in Connecticut. RI has five. CRDA should have done better.Providence got 900k a year for Amica Mutual Pavilion and we're getting 2 mil for PBA. Way too much whinging about the value CT companies see in the civic center.
The business irony is, given their size, that if they are successful, they would likely be acquired. If they fail, that will also likely happen. Granted, they are a mutual bank not a stock owned bank. Yet, CT Mutual no longer exists.good chance PeoplesBank is acquired before their 10 year contract expires. The annual sponsorship fee appears to be a significant % of their annual net income.
Actually, PeoplesBank is paying $850,000 in year one.Providence got 900k a year for Amica Mutual Pavilion and we're getting 2 mil for PBA. Way too much whinging about the value CT companies see in the civic center.
My late father used to make up pun sentences for landmarks while on road trips:People will call it whatever they want. Everytime I go back home to Philadelphia, i cross the Mario Cuomo Bridge. I still call it the TapanZee. The Tapan Zee bridge doesn't exist anymore. I have no agenda. Old habits die hard.
