I don't know where I 1st heard these guys, or when I bought their 2-disc CD set titled "Pirates Choice." But I found it in my collection under a Lana Del Rey record. They are known as "West Africa's Iconic Dance Band."

Here is a really old song done by a young artist and her band in a style quite different from previous versions. This young lady is something special.

I think she had already released an album by the time she was 16, maybe younger. I heard some of her early stuff, but I've lost track of her.

Lykke Li singing one of my favorite songs, in one of my favorite movies, "Blue is the Warmest Color." (2013)

I, I follow, I follow you
Deep sea baby, I follow you
I, I follow, I follow you
Dark, doom honey, I follow you

I don't know whether she's really obscure, but Tal Wilkenfeld is new to me. She's played bass with Jeff Beck among many others, released an album of jazz in 2007, and her first vocal album last year. She has a really interesting voice and is an absolutely amazing bass player.

She was playing with Jeff Beck at 16 years old. I have seen a video of her playing with Clapton at the Crossroads Festival several years ago. And one of her with Billy Gibbons. She is amazing!

Batdorf and Rodney, early 70's - one great acoustic tune:

Nice song. I barely recall them from the mid seventies. Canadians I think. Thanks.

This one was an obscure - but beautiful, album track from Dave Mason back in the early 70's:

Leticia "Tish" Hinojosa sings the last track from a very enjoyable record (rave review from allmusic.com)

This is a truly beautiful "distance" duet. It's worth a listen just to hear two great voices, and see the settings.

The men's board had a thread about Bob Steele. And when I think about Bob, I remember looking forward to the times when he would play this, the best song for kids ever:

Here is one from the Everly Brothers that I had never heard until recently. Pay attention to the lyrics. They are quite amusing.

This is a wonderfully happy little ditty from Donovan. I think I may have posted it to last year's similar thread, but I'm listening to it now while making penne alla vodka. it has one of my all-time favorite twists of phrase:

few people get there quick by the chosen road
they don't know it's quicker to go by natural velocity

Makes no sense, but it sure goes with the spirit of the song.

Way back when 45s cost 89 cents I felt obliged to listen to both sides to get my money's worth. Of course I had to have the Chipmunk Song by David Seville. I feel that I "discovered" this one, which certainly wasn't chipmunky. I remember saying "Hey this IS almost good."
