Bader's offensive stats over last 3 years are slightly better than Hicks. Bader's OPS is 40 points higher in that time. So maybe it's time to move on from Hicks. Bader is four years younger.

While Bader may only be an average bat, and maybe you don't buy into WAR. But you should buy into defense. And over his 6 year career, Bader has 47 defensive runs saved vs Hicks 1.

Regarding the back of your staff, Quintana was there for the asking. Pirates had to settle for a pretty crappy return from Cards. I'm sure Yanks could've done better and you would've had Quintana, but apparently Cashman couldn't come up with a deal.

Fair enough and I’m not a Hicks fan anyway. But I’m also not a fan of guys who can’t hit all that well and he’s just another of those Cashman brings along. Do like the defensive improvements but can we please eventually do better than .240/.320 on offense? Baseball overall has way too many of those I guess so just have to find the best of the not so good. When he returns let’s see what he does.

Since arriving in the league in 2017, Bader is behind only Keirmaier and Buxton as the best defensive CF in the game. He is a massive upgrade over Hicks defensively. My guess is the plan is to move Hicks to LF to platoon with Benintendi (Hicks hitting LHP, Benny RHP).

The problem is that Bader has been in a walking boot since June with plantar fasciitis.

Montgomery’s the definition of a meh SP. No out pitch, and he struggles to put people away. If you’re relying on him during a meaningful stretch of games, you aren’t winning the World Series.

I mean Monty isn’t someone I expected anything out of come playoff time I agree. But finishing the season as strong as possible is a plan and right now they are weak on the back end. Guys including Germán and Tailon will tax the bullpen, not that he wasn’t the last few starts.

I mean it’s not a killer trade either way hopefully someone steps up.

I was at last night's game, first time sitting in the Field Outfield area, third row seats which was a pretty cool experience. The Trevino HR was two sections over, which was quite a rush. Usually, I sit in the 400s, but after getting a StubHub gift card as a bday present, I wanted to treat myself without breaking the bank. Two tickets for $108 after all fees/taxes, not bad.

The Montgomery trade is the one head scratcher out of a very good trade deadline. All I know is that Montgomery asked Boone "for what?" when he was pulled from his last start, not sure what the factor is.

Montgomery's value decreases as the season moves into the playoffs. He likely wouldn't have started in the playoffs since the three starters would be Cole/Montas/Nestor and they can find a 4th starter next offseason. Also a reasonable chance they can acquire a Montgomery replacement in the August Waiver trade market too.

Hicks has been bad, so Bader ostensibly replaces Hicks in the outfield and moves Judge over to RF, moving forward with an outfield of Benintendi/Bader/Judge, which is excellent defensively.

Yankees have been playing .500 ball for over a month now. Not a great team. First half looks like a mirage.

Well Cole isn’t helping matters. Down 6-0 in the 1st against Castillo that’s real good. This team totally sucks right they look like their doing a swan dive already.

Cole gives up 6 runs in the first inning today coming off 5 runs in his last start, Verlander has given up 5 runs since June 19th.

Damn near impossible seeing this pitching leading to a championship, another failure by Cashman.

Mets have the true aces, it's their year if Scherzer and DeGrom are healthy.

Of course Andujar and Florial can't get traded and won't be given an opportunity here. Peraza should be called up and be playing SS,
I wouldve been open to trading Gleyber moving DJ to 2B, Peraza to SS and IKF to 3rd where he won a GG.

What a weird lineup today. Judge gets the day off, Rizzo leads off and Benintendi bats 5th.

A 51-18 start to the season was a mirage?

They sure are playing like it. I’ll be honest I’m not confident to see this team playing the Mariners, Jays or Rays in a short series. Hopefully they get it together real soon, yes slumps will happen but it does seem like they have developed a losing pattern.

IKF is fine at SS nothing to worry about there. Andujar gets the short end of the Hicks/Gallo innnings. Florial, well obviously he's nothing anyone thought he would be or they would have used him in a trade. Gleyber? Wouldn't have been upset if they traded him, nothing close to the guy 3-4 years ago.

Hate to say it but it was coming, the pitching was a little over their heads early on both starters and pen. Holmes coming back to earth hopefully just a speed bump and he gets his confidence back. But this was bound to happen with a bunch of .220 hitters in your lineup and pitching that's inconsistent. Better to play .500 now and get back the swag late season, we will see.

Management is not great either - yeah let's rest our hottest hitter against their best arm on a day before a damn day off? Stupidity.

Admittedly I don’t know much about Bader but I hear he is great defensively. My concern is plantar fasciitis is a tricky injury that doesn’t really have a treatment other than rest. It could linger for a loooong time.

Fun fact: Bader is the cousin of the bass player from Vampire Weekend. Both grew up together in Bronxville.

Let's be honest. Which team is playing closer to like how people expected them to play like before the season started? The team we have been seeing for the last month plus, or the team at the start of the season? I'd argue it's the team we've been seeing recently. Did anyone really expect the rotation with a bunch of question marks to perform like #1 rotation in baseball in the early season?

It’s time to put Clarke Schmidt into the rotation.

That makes 11 runs in 2 straight innings, right?

Will just leave this here...

Jordan Montgomery. 5 scoreless innings of two hit ball.

He'll be pounding Budweisers tonight!!

Everyone else was hitting ropes against Monty but this team. Hicks being Hicks again and Torres should have been traded when they had a chance. Reality has set in. This team has a losing record with a torrid hitting Judge, just think about that!

Did Benintendi ever come to the Yankees after the trade?

I highly question why Marinaccio was optioned to AAA. 2.03 ERA, 0.863 WHIP, 32 Ks in 26 2/3 IP.

Not to be a dick, but can we DFA Hicks once Stanton or Bader return? He does literally nothing for this team anymore after being one of my more liked Yankees.

Another idea: DFA Marwin Gonzalez, call up Peraza and then put some pressure on Donaldson.

It would be fun to see a DJ/Torres/Peraza/IKF infield tonight just to spice things up.

Donaldson has a .592 OPS over the last month.

In 354 AAA at-bats, Peraza has 16 2B, 15 HR, 42 RBI, 26 SB, 3 CS and just 81 Ks. .259/.328/.450 splits. Currently on a 5-game hitting streak.

Just got tickets to see the A+ Hudson Valley team on Friday. Jasson Dominguez, SS Trey Sweeney (#5 prospect) and RHP Yoendrys Gomez (#6 prospect) are currently the top prospects on the team.

Not only are Hicks and Gleyber struggling but they aren’t hustling either. Could’ve dealt Gleyber in the Pablo Lopez trade that failed. Gleyber is just not a championship level player. Cashman did well at the deadline but choked at the end of it.

Benintendi is a leadoff hitting so maybe try batting him leadoff, bat DJ 2nd then Judge 3rd. This team likes to mess around but can’t try batting Benintendi leadoff like a normal person would.

Cashman won't move Judge out of the two spot. He's far too enamored with stays and metrics that he doesn't really grasp. RBI's do have value (regardless of what the next gen stats claim) and it doesn't take any complex logic to realize the three spot will provide more RBI opportunities than the two spot.

This weekend series is infuriating as it is exposing every misstep we've made in recent years. We couldn't trade for Arenado when the Rockies were not only giving him away, they were willing to pay nearly 25% of his salary. This spring we were happy to take on Donaldson with $50 million due over two years.

We have nobody capable of getting a hit with runners on base and in his first start for us, the pitcher we did land looks like he has no clue how use his stuff in critical spots.

The way I see it, any AL team capable of making the playoffs has at worst an even shot at knocking us off.

See timing is everything. This post got 6 hits out of Hicks and Torres today too bad the pitching can’t get anyone out.
