Thanks Beyonce and Bruno Mars for saving that disgrace

Coldplay doesn't belong on the same stage
7 Grammy's, 5 Billboard music awards and like dozens of songs that made it to the Billboard 100.
But hey, what the hell are they doing up there?

Milli and Vanilli won a Grammy. But hey, that automatically means they were legit, right?

Just out of curiosity, are you a fan of any of them regularly? Because as a casual observer who doesn't care about any of them, Coldplay was the best performance during halftime. Bruno was OK too, but Beyoncé was absolute garbage. The song was horrible and her singing wasn't any better. Reminded me of the abomination the black eyed peas put on during halftime 5 years ago.

Bruno Mars should do every halftime show by himself from now on, he's the best at this stuff since Michael Jackson.
Meh! As long as he remembers to wipe the white powder from his nose before he gets on stage.

Not a fan of any of them.

Are you referring to the SINGLE grammy that was stripped from them?
This song (syncopated wubs in breaks of a remixed old song) won a Grammy.

as did this

And John Mayer has won three Grammys himself.

Would you like more examples?

Long story short: you use scrub metrics that are at best popularity contests for determining quality music. Or maybe you put more weight in Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Slime Awards.

I like the old Colplay - Parachutes, A Rush...., X&Y - a bit commercial but certainly not crap
Bruno is Bruno - I don't get the talent but the staged show and dancing is interesting
Beyoncé - I have no idea what people see in her but as a Dead Head I hear the same thing so to each their own
Overall - the show was pretty lame

Well I never referenced the Slime Awards, which are a joke. Grammy's are not a joke.
I guess we can agree to disagree. Coldplay is a world class band, with a large following, as seen by their location on Billboard charts, which is directly influenced by people interest. Beyonce is only up there for looks. Bruno Mars is a legitimately talented performer.
Coldplay have cranked out popular song after popular song for 15 years, whether you like it or not.

Coldplay have written popular song after popular song, whether you like it or not.
And I'm refuting your championed idea that popularity is any real marker of talent, for which you have no retort.

You must love the Baskstreet Boys and N*Sync. Popular song after popular song. They should do a reunion Super Bowl halftime show.

That has to be the beer talking
You are comparing a group with many platinum albums with a bunch of druggies lip synching?
OK - lets now compare and place UConn on the same stage as CCSU

This has to be one of the most inane statements I have seen

The point

Your head

Or to make it more concrete for you, let's talk about the Backstreet Boys Grammy nominations and Billboard awards

Give it up
Your arguments are just ridiculous

All things being said, these drunken idiots dancing around behind Trent Dilfer is more entertaining than the entire halftime show

You're right. Your opinion trumps the world.
Coldplay has talent. Stop basing your assumptions on a few performances here and there and the same songs that are played on the radio. Go listen to their first 3-4 albums. Go listen to In My Place, Trouble, Don't Panic, Amsterdam, Charlie Brown, Shiver, Yellow (pretty popular).
Just because you don't like them doesn't mean they lack talent. That's just ignorance.

You've missed the entire point. My liking or disliking them has never been a part of this.

Coldplay was fantastic. Amazing idea to go with an au courant flower power theme. I was visibly moved when they were playing in a tight little circle...as if they were alone in a garage...just a guy here with a guitar, singin' his heart out. And Chris Martin is excellent singing from the crouch as well. That shouldn't go unnoticed. Loved how they did a best of halftime show montage, to accentuate Coldplay's musical brilliance. You kind of forget when the camera's on them the whole time, and they are simply electrifying the air with sheer physical presence, that these guys can really rock out!

Oh, and the Half Time Show was decidedly lacking in breasts.

On the halftime show....what the hell did CBS use to film that?

Was it intentionally filmed to make it look like it was recorded a couple of years ago?

If it's not about your own judgment of them and it's not about the "scrub metrics that are at best a popularity contest," then what's it about? I think you misplaced your own point a few posts back.

You're right, I am missing your point, because you have made several points indicating a distaste for Coldplay under the thread entitled "The Official Coldplay Sucked Thread". I can't tell if you are saying the music industry sucks, Coldplay sucks, or standards for good music sucks. Sounds like all of the above.
Let me ask you something, is Coldplay talented by the holy, great standards of Rocktheworld?

That Grammys and Billboard Awards are not a necessary nor sufficient qualifier for talent; which I would hope, in your world, is itself a qualifier for performance on the Superbowl halftime stage.

Or maybe it isn't.
