Jetskies celebrate!
A weekend of Jets AND Huskies victories?!

Pinch me.
Yes…but now we have the win/draft pick dilemma. When the draft happens next year, would you rather have a win against the Browns in an awful season, or a higher draft pick?

I think the draft is such a crapshoot…just let the chips fall where they may.

yes. i've landed on the classic "just win games".

Right now..

Tennessee 1-8
Raiders 2-7
Jets 2-7
Browns 2-7
Giants 2-8
Saints 2-8

6 other teams with 3 wins.

I hate tanking. I also hate committing to a rebuild, selling off huge contributors then possibly ending up with the 8th-9th pick. Anything lower than the 3rd pick and you need to burn some of those hoarded draft picks to move up to get a guy you really like.

Exactly. If the Jets were like the Giants…and had a QB already…I think working on building a winning culture is more important than a high draft pick.

The only reason not to tank, would be if you think Fields has any chance to be a starter next year. He proved again yesterday…that he is probably not even a good backup.

The Jets need to be in the top 5 picks…that’s the priority…not getting another win or two.

Like a true Jets fan, I've talked myself into them winning tonight. I know, I know....

1) Short week and a trap game for the Pats.
2) Jets will take the air out of the ball and it'll be a typical ugly Thursday night game.
3) I'm not annointing Maye the saint everyone else is yet. I've seen this play out with Stroud and Daniels. I don't think Dart is nearly as good as people are making him out to be. Maye is no where near an automatic just go out and systematically get the W point for me yet.
4) Here's the one I hate......Glenn has me starting to believe he's got these guys behind him. Through everything they've gone through, they still speak highly of him and seem bought into his plan (whatever that is).

16-13 Jets.

hope you're right!
you're probably wrong. but if we can beat duke, maybe the jets get inspired again.

I get the logic and the NFL is remarkably unpredictable.

But…I don’t see Vrabel letting them lay an egg here. This feels like a game..for the reasons you listed. that will be closer than it should be…but the Pats find a way to put it away in the fourth quarter.

Yeah, again I realize I'm feeling it today, but I'm also sick of the Vrabel glazing. I understand the insecurities of Pats fans and their need to return back to success of the Brady days. Vrabel flamed out of Tennessee and no one hired him in 2024. Let's put a hold on changing it from the Lombardi to the Vrabel Trophy just yet.

I am definitely a fan of Vrabel. Titans made a mistake…he made a team with Ryan Tannehill as QB very competitive.

i suppose you tankers will get your wish after all. let them just keep playing justin fields.

I think we have seen the last of Justin Fields as a starter. Of course he will probably come back when Taylor gets hurt, but it’s hard to believe AG sends him out again as a starter.

Here is what I don’t understand. Fields isn’t a draft pick where Mougey and AG didn’t know how he would look in the NFL. They had 4 years of tape to decide if he was worth $40mm and the starting job. They said yes. Why? I haven’t watched much of Fields before he was signed by the Jets. But if he has always looked this way..how the heck did they think this would work? And if he hasn’t looked this bad…isn’t that a condemnation of Engstrand?

Here is the long term worry…the guys who thought Fields was a starting QB and worth $40mm, are the same guys who will be picking the Jets QB of the future. They OC who is currently leading a horrific offense will be the guy given the task of developing the next QB.

It’s hard to be confident in that pick and his development.

I'm not saying he should start anymore and he's clearly not the long term answer but.....

1) He had a good 4-5 balls dropped that were big plays/3rd down conversions. Especially AD Mitchell (who impressed me with his route running but equally disappointed me with his hands).
2) They trotted out a WR core of:

Metchie - Buried on Philly's depth chart - had 4 catches on the season going into last night
Mitchell - Thrown in on the back end of the Sauce trade - had 9 catches going into last night
Isaiah Williams - had 4 catches going into last night

Those guys aren't in the top 4-5 on the depth charts of 80% of the NFL teams right now.

.-.
One more tidbit on Fields. Just to illustrate how bad he is? I was going to load up on any passing or receiving unders on the Jets last night on DraftKings.....until I saw most of all those options were off the board. Vegas can't even set the numbers low enough to feel comfortable taking in bets on him. He's not a rookie. He's in his fifth year!

Yes…he did have an excuse last night…my comments weren’t based on last night only…it has been the whole season.

And even last night…Taylor would have found a way to get the ball downfield.

Getting back to my main point…if Mougey and AG thought Fields might work…can we be confident they can pick the next starting QB in the draft? Or trade for the right QB?

I don't know. Let's just look at how often other teams whiff.

Trevor Lawrence was a can't miss.
Carolina traded a truckload for Bryce Young.
Kyler Murray stinks.
Anthony Richardson?!
Kenny Pickett was a late 1st rounder.
JJ McCarthy was a top 10 pick.
Will Levis was the 2nd pick in the 2nd rd.
3 teams gave up on Baker Mayfield.
3 teams gave up on Sam Darnold.

I'll end with this. I've watched Fernando Mendoza pretty closely. He looks great. I have no idea if he'll be a good pro, a bust or a hall of famer. All these guys appear to be in this clump of talented 6'2" athletic guys who "look" the part....then they get to the pros.

maybe the Jets should try out Joe Fagnano... i'm kidding, but low key I just wanna see him throw it for them.
If tim FRIGGIN boyle can start a couple games for the Jets, Joe Fagnano can show them a little somethin

we'll be 5-12 anyway lol, so just play Joe

on another note, I hate to be that guy but i saw this season coming from a mile away. the offseason moves were head scratchers and seemed to me like a front office that had no interest in competing immediately.

I don't understand what the gameplan was, letting rodgers go, not fighting to beef up the o-line, nor aggressively pursuing new defensive talent to assist Q-brothers and sauce... it all just seemed like they (proudly) had no interest in working with someone else's team (Joe Douglas).

back in the summer, AG was asked how he defines "success" this season; any coach with half a brain (or interest in his current roster) would say SUPER BOWL.... I will never forget his answer - he said "I want to field a team fans can be proud of".... wtf

tell me you are tanking without telling me you are tanking.
I vowed to not watch a game after that. still going strong lol

so let it all fall apart, and make your own after you go 2-15. And screw the fans, in the process.
that's the message i got from the summer.

I watched last night. It was "fine". It was a C- at best. Mediocre run game, horrific pass game. A couple really good drives and a lot of terrible ones. Defense was below average most times but had a few decent stops. A mix of bad, undisciplined penalties + the refs glazing the Pats at home. I went to bed with 10 minutes left with a "meh" feeling.

I have said this before…I continue to be amazed how often teams whiff on drafting quarterbacks. What’s frustrating is that even when they get it right (Darnold) they still screw it up with bad coaches and teammates.

I agree on Mendoza..I watched the game against PSU. He has a live arm…good decision making and decent wheels. Love his size….he is 6’5.

To me..Sellers at SC is the next Anthony RIchardson. Some GM will talk themselves into his “upside” and “athleticism” and draft him in the first round. I just hope it’s not the Jets.

Lot’s of time for these QB rankings to shake out. At this point last year, Shadeur Sanders was a top 5 pick…lol.

Just look at the 2021 draft. The 3 top picks were Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Trey Lance. Wilson, and even more so Lance, have been terrible busts. Lawrence has been O.K. but definitely not what everyone expected. If you sort by the Weighted Career Approximate Value (wAV) Micah Parsons was the best pick (he went 12th in the 1st round). Amon-Ra St. Brown ended up being a great pick in the 4th round, 112 overall. Wilson and Lance are way down there.

I’d disagree that Lawrence has been okay. He’s been a can’t miss that’s been a complete miss.

I don’t know…I think “ok” is a good word for him. I actually think the Jets would have 3 more wins this year if they had him.

I am not saying I want the Jets to trade for him…because I think he is just “ok”. But ok puts him in the top half of QBs right now.

I guess I’m judging him against his pre draft clippings and draft slot. He was the next can’t miss after Andrew Luck.

OK…I am really enjoying the Belichick to the Giants rumors. He can bring his son and all his buddies to run the team. He can be the GM and show us his great drafting skills again.

We need to make this happen so I can be distracted from the Jets disaster.

(truthfully…this smells like his agent reaching out to the Giants because he is desperate to get out of NC, but I would guess the Giants politely turned him down)

He’s a disappointment for sure. But he’s still an OK, league average QB.
