The Official 2025 New York Yankees Thread

I don't get it (unless they're setting up the rotation for a future series. Even if Rodon's one inning in the all star game made starting tonight impossible (a ridiculous notion) and Schlittler & Fried's arm soreness made them unavailable for this weekend, why couldn't they have gone Strohman and Warren (in either order) for games one & two against the Braves and start Rodon on Sunday?

Just saw that they have the Blue Jay's Monday- Wednesday. I'm guessing they want the best starters for that series.
Pretty much nailed it.

Against Strider, that game was a gimme loss. I'm just glad the Yankees only used four pitchers that game as the MYP award will go to Brubaker gave up no hits and just one walk in the final three innings. I know @storrsroars is a fan.

Speaking of Pirates, Mitch Keller is one of the starting pitchers the Yankees have shown interest in. He's having a career year w/ a 3.48 ERA, 1.14 WHIP. Not a top-of-the rotation guy, per se, but he's on a very reasonable contract, making just 15M this year and signed on for 18M per year for the next three seasons. Fun mix of six different pitches (fastball, sweep, slider, sinker, curve, change).

I'd forgotten all about JTB. He wasn't very good here, and after the injury, just lost track of him.

Keller is for real. He was tinkered with far too often early in his career and until Brent Strom was hired as assistant pitching coach, Keller never really optimized his pitch usage. He's had several good pitches, but his sequencing and location didn't optimize his talent. That started to change last year, but this year both have improved significantly, thanks to both Strom and better game planning with Davis (who usually catches him).

As with Skenes, Keller gets no run support here. So you could say almost all his pitches are high stress. which often leads him to be too careful sometimes. He should thrive with some actual offense behind him. Pirates fans are somewhat split on whether to keep him here until Jones is back and Chandler shows he can handle MLB hitters. But many others, like myself, simply think Keller deserves better than the Pirates.

Sign me up:

Yeah me too tough with Shlitter for sure and all their guys are rentals, but if you want to make a run it’s a must.

Honestly wouldn’t pull the trigger until after the three game series against the Jays. Get swept again don’t do it, you’re cooked.

The Yankees are now 4 games behind the Jays.

They went 5 for 32, striking out 12 times.

The Volpe break out is not real!!!!

Left side of the infield is truly a circus and Suarez doesn’t help that. In fact he would make it worse but I guess the hope would be that he’d hit enough HRs to make up for it.

Less talked about but I think the most underwhelming player vs the hype train has been Dominguez. I guess he’s still young but if your nickname is The Martian you should probably be batting a little higher than .250 and not having people hold their breath every time a fly ball is hit in your direction.

I don't listen to Yankees broadcasts, but a quick glimpse at his splits indicate an issue I imagine is talked about in the booth. On the road his BA splits are identical (.265 from both sides). At home, he's fine batting lefty (.295), but horrific as a righty (.088).

That's the kind of split you don't run across too often and seems to defy explanation.

A considerable contributing factor is the (relative) lack of left handed pitching in the minor leagues. Throughout his professional career he bats left handed close to 90% of the time.

I'll add the organization's philosophy on hitting (concerned only with launch angles and exit velocities) hurts his development (along with the development of most of their younger players).

The last item that I'll add as a contributing factor is the idea that they need to rest players on a regular basis. They seldom allow players the opportunity to remain hot when reaching a hot streak.

This team is awful and to give up the farm literally for rentals at this point would be stupid which leads me to believe Cashman will get it done. And by the way Dominguez would be on the offer way before Shlitter there’s plenty of .240 hitting OFers who aren’t very good defensively.

Time to sell they aren’t as good as the Jays and are 10-17 in the AL East which is pitiful. 2026 should be the focus.

I am so fed-up with Yankee Management!
They knew 1 month into the season that they needed at least 2 starting pitchers, a third baseman, at least 2 relief pitchers and possibly a left fielder.
They've waited for the trade deadline to start thinking of moves they have to make!
Now every team is looking for the players they all need!
Making it even harder to make deals!
3rd base has become a black hole with 2 terrible players sharing time.
They may also need a SS as Volpe is becoming a hazard to the team! Between his bat and his glove he's killing the teams chances!
As a fanatical Yankee fan since 1958, I start watching each game, but when (not if) the pitcher gives up HR's or the fielders make stupid errors I have to turn the channel! At 77 my heart can't take the BS!
I'm so frustrated as it seems you all are also!

Volpe boots a routine grounder for the second night in a row. Coupla hits later the runner comes around to score.
Booney brings in the guy with a 9 ERA in his last 8 games who promptly gives up a laser to score another run to tie it. Per Kay, Boone has been saying Loaisiga “just needs to find his release point”. I guess in the late innings of a 1 run game against the team you’re chasing is as good a time as any for some work?
Williams isn’t available to close which leaves Weaver…who comes in in the 7th inning leaving everyone wondering who will close should the Yanks grab the lead.
Game is still going so we’ll find out how it all works out shortly…

Edit: Rice saves Boone. Apparently Williams WAS available to close it out. Good win.

Per MLB.com, Herring is the Yankees' #8 prospect and Grosz is #21.

Good defender, great power, excellent eye but one of the worst contact hitters in baseball.

He's also signed at 16M per for the next two seasons.

That leaves Carlos Lagrange and a bunch of other pitchers as the Yankees remaining top prospects, which makes me believed the next move is a #3 pitcher. Would love Keller.

Another .217 hitter and this is in Colorado where everyone hits better. Cashman needs to go, he’s pitiful.

16HR and 35 RBI wow that’s clutch ABs again, that’s in hitting heaven.

I've pretty much given up on this season. I can't take the clown show that our defense has been.

Would love Keller.
Keller is in that category of "we need to be blown away by an offer". With all the "untouchables", doesn't seem Yankees can do that.

While he's paid more than any Pirate, his is not a salary dump situation (like Hayes would be).

You guys seriously should take IKF back. We're up to our necks in middle infielders and IKF could actually help y'all a lot in the IF.

After sleeping on it for a day, this feels a lot like the Joey Gallo trade as in similar player profile (good fielder, good power, good eye, awful contact) with money still on his contract, but the fit is awkward. At least the Yankees didn't give up much to acquire McMahon.

My only concern: he does make 16M the next two seasons and Bellinger is an UFA entering this offseason. I love Bellinger and would love to re-sign him, so I hope the money committed to McMahon does not prevent that. Outside of Judge, Bellinger is the Yankees' second best all-around player.

Every pitcher gave up at least two runs to the Phightins last night which is absolutely pathetic. I bit the bullet and got tix for tomorrow since I came up to CT to visit family and the last time I took my kid, it absolutely poured and there was a 4 hour rain delay so not the best game day experience. Rain in the forecast but hopefully not a washout.

I am just not watching. No one gets held accountable by our poly ana manager.

Then we fill a hole with a strikeout machine third best option Hal….

Give this roster to Buck Showalter and the outcome would be so much different.

I mean how long does ownership let this go on. I went to four games in June and we had planned to fly back and catch a few games in September.

I just put those tickets up for sale this morning. Just not going to spend my money on this joke of a team.

He strikes out way more than he makes contact great addition Cashman. Now Judge is hurt time to change something even if you think it is not Boones doing in baseball we have learned sometimes change is needed even if it is not directly related to bad performance.

But to be clear I never have been a Boone fan….well I guess when he hit the homer against the Sox but never as a manager.

Yankees are free falling and....down goes Judge. Elbow flexor strain. No torn ligament.

Cashman's war room can't be too hopeful right now.

Playoff baseball: it’s on. Get your trophy polish ready. The Mets get Soto? , we’ll get Rosario.

Jokes aside, solid pickup at little cost. A high-contact guy who bats well against lefties. Basically an Oswaldo replacement as he can play any position aside from catcher. Wouldn’t mind him sticking around next year as a bench piece on the cheap.

Two trades and very little value traded away and most of the Yankees best prospects are pitchers. All signs point to them using that pitching prospect depth to add a #3 starter and a high-leverage RP.

Is it worth trading away a fairly high prospect for a #3 starter? Will a # 3 starter really help this team?

With Judge out 10 days at least…and this team playing poorly WITH Judge, to me it feels like another lost season and it’s probably not worth giving up prospects to hope you can get a wildcard.
