The Official 2025 New York Yankees Thread

Looks like Oswaldo is out for the year. Gruesome injury. I guess for now, Pereza and Reyes will take over at 3B, but both are RH bats. Jazz should be back in hopefully under a month.

Wonder if Yankees AAA prospect Jesus Rodriguez gets called up. Catcher by trade, but has played 7 games at 3B this season in the minors and is raking in AAA (.945 OPS in 21 games).

Makes me like Grisham even more.

Is DJ cooked? He was so good for his first couple of seasons with NY but seems like a shell of that player. I know he's fought some injuries, but he seems to have lost all the pop in his bat. He's still a plus on defense, but the days of LaMachine seem to be firmly in the rearview mirro.

DJ doesn't have a lot left. There may be a few games here and there where he looks like an earlier version of DJ but this is the end of the line for him.

Not happy hearing that he doesn't like the idea of moving to third when Chisolm returns.

DJ's got one more year left on his contract for next year. The right move is to simply DFA him once Jazz returns. Or, if they really want to milk out DJ out, option Vivas (who has an option left), move DJ to the bench and then DFA DJ later this year, the upcoming offseason, at the latest.

DJ has had how many seasons now of season injuries, I have lost count. DJ should be playing 2-3 days a week at least for now. Playing him every day is lunacy.

He’s been done for a couple of years now. When he was on, he was one of the best hitters in the game and has always been a good clubhouse guy but unless he can find the post age-35 Big Papi Fountain of Juice, he should be relegated to a part time role at best.

Right now the Yankees have Jazz playing 3RD in rehab in the minors! And They plan on keeping DJ at 2B and move Jazz back to 3RD!
Jazz has said "he'll play anywhere the team needs him, he's a Team guy 1st!"
I love Jazz's enthusiasm for the Yankees!
My 2 favorite players this year are Jazz and Cody! And of course Judge!
Cody's back hitting like he should after food poisoning and a bad back after a really good spring training!
He's healthy now and hitting a ton!

Really creative idea. Rice has cooled down quite a bit (.916 OPS in April, .739 in May, .502 in June) so that provides Rice a few opportunities to get more reps, especially against RHP (Rice has a .848 OPS against RHP vs .696 OPS against LHP). Wells is also a LH batter, but is surprisingly good against LHP (.891 OPS).

I was lukewarm about Stanton's return when Rice was batting much better, but at this point, I'm just ready to field the best team possible, especially since DJ has exceeded my expectations so far.

Yeah although Stanton will be back on the IL with a pulled (insert muscle group here) at some point so Rice will be back in the fold in no time.

DJ looks good swinging the bat and that’s huge. You take Goldschmidt and Judge out of the lineup the Yanks hit .223 about 20 points below league average. Wells has been hot but he needs to find a way to get to at least a .250 hitter and I like Rice but he’s the same as well.

Same old same old nothing is gonna change under Hal, Cashman, and Boone.

How dare Judge have a bad week or 2 they’ll need shutouts from the staff. With Goldy and Grisham coming back to earth and a lot of other standard crappy hitters this team will be lucky to win 90 even with this start. Just an awful, stagnant offensive lineup without Judge being en fuego.

It's getting to the point where the reality is sinking in that what if the Yankees never score a run ever again?

You know, I'm seeing less and less of the "Soto wishes he stayed a Yankee" nonsense recently.

Soto is hitting and the Mets have lost 4 in a row and got annihilated by the Rays. Yankees have their own issues, Soto wasn't gonna come back to the Yankees , he wasn't turning down a 1 billion dollar contract from the Mets.
I can't blame him for that.

1 hitter isn't solving your offensive problems, even though it might put a band aid on it. I kind of wanna see it fail with Boone and Cashman anyways.

I never root against the Mets and living close to Philly I’m hoping they sweep the Fightins’ this weekend. One of Mrs @StllH8L8ner’s friends won Diamond Club tix to Sunday nights game and invited her under the condition that she has to root for the Phillies…to which she said “F No!”. Then they said she can’t wear any Mets gear…so which she also said “F No!”. So she’s dusting off her Kevin McReynolds jersey and heading to Citizens Bank Park this weekend with a bunch of Phillies Phans.

Yeah, Cohen asked Soto to keep quiet about it and as he's getting 3/4 of a billion dollars from Cohen he agreed....

temporarily......

I never root against the Mets.
Me either, unless they are playing the Yankees, obvs.

One of my biggest baseball fan buddies is actually a Sox fan living in Queens, so we both agree that if we're going to catch games together, it's either going to be a Mets game or a minor league game. We'll be heading to Citi on Monday.

I never root against the Mets.
For major league sports I very seldom actively root against anyone unless a specific outcome would benefit my team.

I did (as a lifelong Yankee fan) want to see the Mets win in 1969 and 1973, and the only reason I wanted to see the Red Sox win in 1986 was due to having a couple close friends who were Sox fans (very specifically, one former career mentor, an older gentleman who was as good a person as you could find, who was a die hard Sox fan from the depression years) and I would have liked it if they had the opportunity to see a championship.

The way I look at it, if we didn't win, there is no victory from someone else not winning.

College sports, specifically men's basketball is different. There is always joy to be found when Duke and/or Syracuse lose.

I actually prefer Citi Field as a place to watch a game vs Yankee Stadium. Just feels brighter and nicer in general. Yankee Stadium was waaay more convenient by train when I was living in Fairfield County though.

No argument here.

Well 2 runs tonight. I think I’m ready for the Grisham at leadoff play to be over.

Gleyber Torres is the starting 2B for the AL All Star team.

This is a suddenly “bigger” version of Gleyber
which I’m guessing also adds a bigger size to his new Tigers baseball hat. Take a look at him not the same guy.
