I am a Yankee fan and deepster really trolled me earlier this year, but I will only say this…..we may not have the Yankee mystique anymore and maybe those ghosts never left the old stadium.
But it is October and the Yankees are playing like they usually do in October. The Mets…not so much…….
Aaron Boone has never won a season series against the Mets.I am a Yankee fan and deepster really trolled me earlier this year, but I will only say this…..we may not have the Yankee mystique anymore and maybe those ghosts never left the old stadium.

Agree with most of what you said, but no interest in trading Nimmo away. Definitely need to improve the lineup around him but he's above average in LF. Baty will be the starting 3B next year and Vientos the Dan Hurley, agree you can't have him in the field anymore. Acuna and Mauricio will definitely be moved, hopefully McNeil too.welp. The freaking marlins seal our fate. Feels like 2007 all over again.
I’m trying not to knee jerk react here, but Mendy has to go, right? The low basketball IQ errors and lack of urgency this team had at times - not covering home on a pass ball, not covering third on a stolen base attempt when the pitcher stepped off … these things happening in the most important games of the year! That’s on coaching to me. Pete talked about after the game today that this team didn’t pick each other up enough. The staff sets the tone. They set the standard. If that’s an issue that’s a culture problem and the coach sets the culture.
It wasn’t long ago our “pitching lab” was lauded as this model that was the envy of the league. Our pitching is a joke. What happened??
We have a glut of guys who are redundant on the roster (Baty, Vientos, Mauricio, Acuna, McNeil, Marte) all either corner or middle infielders or can’t even play the fiend effectively - please trade away most of them. Make a decision on a 3B and shop the rest. Personally I hope we trade Nimmo in a way. We need better defense in the OF. Soto is obviously a stud bat, he’s fine the OF but he’s not a gold glover. We can’t afford multiple average to sub average OFers. Same on the infield. Vientos can’t field. McNeil is great for versatility but I’d prefer us get a plus glove at 2B. Help our pitching out.
McNeil doesn’t hit for power and now doesn’t hit for average. He doesn’t walk a ton. I appreciate him and Nimmo as life long Mets but it’s time to move on.
Figure out how to bring Pete back. Lindor and Soto and Alvy are a nice core. McLean is a great piece on the staff. Diaz has been nails. But it’s open season for everyone else IMO. Torrens and Taylor are very nice defensive bench pieces.
What a massive disappointment.
I actually feel a bit for Mets fans. I really didn’t expect them to crash like this. I liked Soto on the Yankees and he finished strong for the Mets. They have an owner that is doing everything he can to deliver a winner…which I wish the Yankees had. I think it’s a matter of time that this team with that owner win a championship.I am a Yankee fan and deepster really trolled me earlier this year, but I will only say this…..we may not have the Yankee mystique anymore and maybe those ghosts never left the old stadium.

Good post. I vehemently disagree about Lumpy (Alonso). Let his ass walk. So, so many 0-4 games. Soto was great. Vientos has to go, McNeil too. Alvarez is young (still) but he is so fragile.welp. The freaking marlins seal our fate. Feels like 2007 all over again.

Have a bad feeling Pete and Edwin Diaz are both gone. Pete already opted out and Diaz is a lock to do the same. I'd re-sign both but that might be a tough task.
Pitching staff is where the questions are for me. They have Senga, Manaea, Holmes, Peterson, McLean, Scott, Sproat all under contract, and Tong at some point too. Need to add an ace but also probably need to trade a few guys away as well. And the bullpen is down to Raley and Minter, gonna need a bunch of additions there
Last year I may have agreed with you. But Pete led our team in batting average this year! He also hasn’t missed a game in 2 years. There is something to be said for that. He can be super streaky and get lost at times, but he can carry you for a week also.Good post. I vehemently disagree about Lumpy (Alonso). Let his ass walk. So, so many 0-4 games. Soto was great. Diaz cost us more games than a nail down closer should. But who else do we have.
The pitching was a dumpster fire. Too much to comment on.
I digress…. I am a Mets and Dolphins fan. So like Deepster, it’s been a while since our pro teams have won. I never in my wildest dreams, however, thought as a 22 year old kid in ‘86 our Huskies would eventually have 6 BB nattys and a D1 football team.
We have that.
Pete might have been streaky, but he was still the best offensive 1B in baseball this year. If he wants an absurd contract again and gets it sure, let him walk. But you also have to be ready to accept a huge step back from an already weak lineup as a result. There's no better option waiting. If Pete walks you're looking at Mark Vientos as your everyday 1B.Good post. I vehemently disagree about Lumpy (Alonso). Let his ass walk. So, so many 0-4 games. Soto was great. On paper Stearns made great decisions in signing (outside of Mullins) and trades. I did not expect everyone to basically regress to minor league level the moment they hit the Mets roster. I know it happens, but it's still frustrating.I actually feel a bit for Mets fans. I really didn’t expect them to crash like this. I liked Soto on the Yankees and he finished strong for the Mets. He’s actually a pretty solid glove I think. He’s prone to misplay a towering foul ball where he has to run backwards or sometimes sail a throw to the pitcher or catcher but he picks the ball nicely and has made some nice stops on some scorchers. I personally don’t get the Pete hate I see sometimes in comment sections.
I guess I don’t know the list of available 1B who are better than Pete. I don’t think there are a plethora of guys out there who are on his level and can be had. He is streaky and can be ice cold, but the end of the day he had a higher average than anyone on our team and was 2nd to only Soto in OPS, 2nd in the league in RBI and had 80 extra base hits.He would get lost for weeks at a time.
I have no issue with his D.
I'd include Vientos with Baty too. Baty has to be the 3B which I never thought I'd say, but Vientos should be the Dan Hurley or at least in the conversation. I think it would be an overreaction to a semi-expected sophomore slump to sell low on himOf Baty, Vientos, Mauricio, Acuna, I can't believe I'm saying this but I think Baty is the only guy I care about coming back.
I really thought Mauricio would be at least a Dan Hurley for us. He was crushing before he got injured in the offseason. Acuna is either going to be his brother or he's going to be a complete bust. I really don't see him being anything in between. I was the most down on Baty since last year and he's the only one out of the four that improved and been consistently MLB level production.I'd include Vientos with Baty too. The interesting thing for Mauricio is he was 14th percentile in sprint speed this year (for reference Vientos was 19th percentile). Not really sure what happened to him, maybe it was just a fluke coming off the injury, but he was very slowAcuna is a solid late inning defensive upgrade on the infield and a fantastic option as a pinch runner in tight games. That’s about it. He has not shown power at the plate and isn’t a plus contact guy either. Strikes out a lot and doesn’t have a great eye.
It’s hard to see much more than that based on seeing him at the big league level.
Mauricio maybe has the highest upside of those 4 young guys but he seems like the lowest floor too. Terrible plate discipline, swings at non competitive pitches - but when he connects he has tremendous power and is an above average runner.
Vientos obviously has shown he can hit, but when he’s not hitting he is pretty useless. Can’t run. Can’t play the field.
Baty is the most consistent, overall player of them all. Not sure how high his ceiling is though. But his glove is actually pretty good and he has adequate power and seems to have a better command of the strike zone at the plate.
This was supposted to say D H not dan hurley lmaoI really thought Mauricio would be at least a Dan Hurley for us. He was crushing before he got injured in the offseason.
