The Official 2025 Boston Red Sox Thread

So Crochet remains a stud, Bello and Giloitto are now pitching really well and the Sox broke an MLB record for runs in a week. Bregman and Yoshida coming back this week. Rafaella and Narvaez both should have made the All Star team. Anthony is really hitting now and Duran is looking better (but will probably be traded). The kids are alright. Team could absolutely go on a big run now.

It was a good weekend but I will temper my enthusiasm since they played Washington. They need to keep it going against the Rockies and then Tampa.

Anthony hit a bomb to center on Monday. I read that he is hitting a higher percentage of fastballs in the zone as opposed to taking as he did previously. Rafaela is on a nice hitting streak as well with another home run.

His teammates may have liked him, but that does not mean Raffy was a team player.

It's too early to conclude who won the trade at this point. The Giants are 9-11 and the Sox are 9-9 since the trade. I think the Sox are better equipped to absorb the trade with the kids coming up and players coming back from injury. Devers is hitting sub-.250 with the Giants and has not played in the field this season for either team, but when you claim to be willing to play anywhere for your new team, yet snub a 1B coaching session with "The Thrill," that is a "You" issue.

Addition by subtraction? There is still significant time remaining on his contract and the return is not Major League ready, but maybe Breslow wasn't taken behind the woodshed on this one.

Absolutely agree with you here.

And let's remember this line of thought this fall if/when Stefon Diggs pulls his nonsense with the Patriots. So far, the most memorable part of his Patriots tenure is Cardi B.

Actually, that's not true at all. Since the boat, he's been a model teammate. Getting raves for helping coach up the young WRs. I was skeptical about the guy, but so far he's been great.

This is why I didn't freak out about it. Anthony will be a better hitter than Devers at some point in the near future. Then there's Password in AAA. Bregman (who loves it in Boston) and Yoshida who really can hit, if not field. Devers as a full time Dan Hurley vs his replacements is simply not close to being worth that contract. Then you get a RP who has been very good and a SP with lots of promise plus more.

The team's path was always about the kids. Abreu is a 2nd year player, Rafaella 2nd year, Mayer rookie, Anthony rookie, Narvaez rookie, Crochet year 3, Fitts rookie, Dobbins rookie. Bello is year 4. Sink or swim with them and probably Harrison soon.

I expect Duran will be moved so Anthony can slot in LF for the next decade. The OF is set for years. Dan Hurley can be Refsnyder/Yoshida platoon. Toro/Gonzalez at 1B unless Campbell comes up. Story or Mayer holds down 2B with Eaton maybe getting some games too. The offense is fine.

That may be the most sane, rational thing he's ever done or said. She's gross. I had to Google BBL and yeah, that's not a positive.
I remember the good ol' days when it was just little things like Tom Brady dumping his pregnant girlfriend.

Sox have won 7 straight. This time against a good Rays team. Buehler had a solid start. He doesn't look great but if he can give you this against a good lineup as your 5, I'll take it. The Sox currently hold the last Wild Card spot.

Toronto looks like a mirage to me. Yankees are +106 in run differential. Boston +56 Tampa + 66. Somehow Toronto leads the division by 2 and is only +20. They will fade.

The win last night (Friday) was great. Walk-off 2-run HR for Rafaela who has been hot. Fun team to watch with the young talent and Bregman is now back. Too bad that Dobbins got injured on high throw to first base.

Something has to happen ASAP now. With Mayer out, it seems Duran isn't going anywhere and they shouldn't give him away anyway. But Fitts can't go, so they need a starting pitcher right now. They also desperately need a catcher that is better than Wong. 1B? Nice to have, but Campbell is playing 1B in AAA and is hitting again, so they may be very reluctant to bring in anything but a rental. Toro has really fallen off, as expected.

Down to the wire on deadline day. I approve of the added bullpen arm for Blaze Jordan, who was Rule 5 eligible and needed to go to a team that can put him on the 40. Boston can't. But they better get another starter or we'll be pretty pissed.

Why is Sunday’s game against Houston starting at 11:30 in the morning? It’s in Boston but on Roku.

Here’s the answer.

It’s part of Sunday MLB leadoff package.

WEEI is reporting that FOX and Yahoo Sports are reporting the Sox are acquiring Joe Ryan.

Then they all pulled it down.

OTOH, when you have the opportunity to get a 4th starter who can barely go 6 innings, you just have to pull the trigger.

I thought May was an ok add, then I saw what we gave up, which is far too much for a meh rental starter. Horrible trade.

So sweep the Astros. 1st place in the wildcard. Ahead of the Yankess and gaining on Toronto. Best record in MLB since July 1. Team seems to really enjoy playing for each other and the depth means guys are pretty rested. Schedule is pretty favorable going forward.

I’m enjoying the season. Second best record in past 50 games as well. Giolito had a nice game today and Criswell was a nice surprise on Friday. They do have to go to Houston in a few weeks but I like their chances.

Yeah this was the stretch I was most worried about, and the series losses to the Cubs and Phillies made me think we could be nosediving, but they responded nicely. So many guys contributing on offense is great, anyone can step up any given night
