Hopefully not the last player to decide to move to Queens from the Bronx this off-season. Love this gamble

There's been a bunch of articles and analysis all off-season about him being the next guy who has the stuff to be a good SP. But even if it doesn't work you have a great 8th inning guy, there's no riskHead scratcher to bring him in as a starter. Maybe he can be a swing/5th starter. Can't say I love it.
There's some good analysis on the motive in hereCan you help me understand this move? No starts since 2018, I guess since he generates ground-balls, that's enticing? Worst-case scenario, then Holmes becomes an overpriced reliever.
Like this at only 3 years.
I don’t think Baty is in the mix. I think if Oete signs elsewhere they go for someone like Bregman and move Vientos to first. Or Mauricio somehow enters the mix.Sounds like Alonso is gonna end up elsewhere. I get the decision from the Mets perspective, but the idea of going into the season with Baty at 3B is not very encouraging
We ready to give up on Baty? I thought his swing was kinda long and slow but this was the guy the organization thought was better than Vientos.I don’t think Baty is in the mix. Well, I am. He has 169 games over three seasons and 600 MLB at bats and he’s never hit above .220. He probably has a place in the majors but starting at 3B for us where we are right now.We ready to give up on Baty? Not ready to completely give up on him, but I'm not sure he's anything more than a bench piece at this point. Same with McNeilWe ready to give up on Baty? I thought his swing was kinda long and slow but this was the guy the organization thought was better than Vientos.
McNeil is a frigging enigma. Can win a batting title or hit .220. He also looks like a malcontent. I'd be fine with them moving him at this point. Not ready to completely give up on him, but I'm not sure he's anything more than a bench piece at this point. Same with McNeil
That's why I want to see one more big bat added, whether it's Pete or Bregman or Santander. I'll feel a lot better about the lineup with Vientos and whichever guy from above at the corners, and then Acuna and Mauricio at 2B
Agree on Vientos. Thought Alvarez missed significant time with a thumb injury. Those things can linger i would imagine. It does feel like McNeil could be a fringe all star and bat .315 with 15 homers next year - or bat .240 with 10 homers and feel like he’s the weakest guy in the line up.
OF Soto
OF Nimmo
OF Siri/Taylor
SS Lindor
1B or 3B Vientos
Remaining corner ???
2B McNeil
C Alvarez
Dan Hurley Marte/Winker
If the open corner is 3rd I guess we are having open try outs between Acuna, Ronnie and Baty ?
One danger about this line up is assuming we get a repeat of 2024 Vientos. I mean I’m high on him and expect similar production, but it’s not a guarantee. Alvarez hit 20+ homers in less than a full season and then followed it up with barely hitting 10 playing an entire one. These guys are still young - heck we are just talking about McNeils ups and downs of his career, who knows what we get from Vientos this year.
Baty is in a similar spot Vientos was in last year at this point. Hard to see a real fit for him and has little to no trade value either at the moment. I wouldn’t totally give up on him, but it’s kinda time to make it happen if it’s going to.
True. He did and I glossed over that. My main point is you just never know how things carry over or not the following year.Agree on Vientos. Thought Alvarez missed significant time with a thumb injury. Those things can linger i would imagine.
True, especially with young players. I thought Ike Davis was gonna be a star after his first 2 years, then he busted his ankle colliding with the pitcher on the mound on a pop up, got valley fever and was never the same again.True. I’m a little skeptical we will get AS good a year from Lindor and Vientos next year just because they were fantastic down the stretch. But maybe we will get a bump from Nimmo, Alvarez and McNeil because it felt like they maybe underperformed on offense last year.
