The Official 2022 Mets Thread

What happened? Checked a bunch of the beat writer accounts and can't find anything mildly concerning
I only saw a report that the guy got knocked out. Obviously got popped pretty good after flailing.

I was just commenting because I don’t like to see physical violence in the stands, no matter the provocation.

Ah I see now, Mau has had me on ignore for about 3 years now so didn't see you were responding to anyone. I was assuming an injury or something

Well that was another nice series! Good to see no letdown after the Braves.

Bummed that we will miss Syndergaard (again) in the upcoming Phillies series. Heading in for the Sunday matinee for my first game this season, so I will miss Max and Jake, but I have no qualms with Bassitt.

You gotta go in for a Mad Max start if you haven't already. He's a pitcher you'll talk about seeing live once he's retired.

I brought my youngest daughter to see one of Jake’s starts last season for exactly that reason. I will be back again this season. I was supposed to see Max for his rehab start in Hartford and was ticketed for the game, but they switched him to the next night literally a couple hours before the game. This weekend’s game is for the purpose of bringing my oldest daughter and her boyfriend and they both work on Friday and Saturday nights, so the Sunday matinee was best for all of us.

I went yesterday with my daughter. Park looked to be about 80%+ filled for a Wednesday matinee against the Reds. In the first inning, you watched them work this rookie pitcher into 3-1 counts and he had no answers. They hit liners off him all over the park and were just SURGICAL with an easy 10-2 win.

And Danny Burgers is already a Mets legend.

So you saw Vogelsnack walk up to "Milkshake." Awesome. My oldest daughter just moved to Queens and she turned me on to the Gametime app for buying tickets (which is what I used for Sunday's game), and she said the cheap seats were going for $3 yesterday. She couldn't get to the game because she had to work, but she's gone for $10 earlier this season.

Anything new of interest for food or drink selections? Where were your seats?

I tend to be a bit picky about my seats and really like being low down in the 300s directly behind home plate. Great perspective, cover from the elements and club access with much shorter food, drink and restroom lines. Obviously not the cheap seats, but the app was great for scoring a huge discount. It's a bit addicting because the prices and inventory fluctuate quite a bit and drop precipitously when Gametime approaches, but by then the seats in those sections are usually gone.

I sure did. It’s been cool to see my daughter connect to this team too. I was her age in 86 and while I was a much bigger fan prior, I know the buzz of a really fun team.

She got us the tickets and we always sit low in LF “to catch an Alonso HR”. There is also a pretty cool SNY video moment I’m a part of that makes that section hit close to home.

I’ll be there on Saturday. It being deGrom day really offsets no game tonight.

like DeGrom in years past, Scherzer has received little support.

Since his return on 7/5, 4 no decisions in which he gave up a total of 3 earned runs.

8 starts - 52 IP, 67K, only 8 ER, 3-1 W/L.

If McNeil and Escobar have to miss tonight I wonder if we see a Baty call-up.

.-.
This deGrom fella is pretty good. In the 108.2 innings he’s pitched between last year and this year, he has struck out 174 and allowed 59 base runners.

Well that was a fun day at the park!

Bassitt had a lot of traffic but he handled it masterfully. And of course it’s nice to have a lot of run support, including a sweet Vogelsmack!

Nice to hang the L on Zack, too.

Felt like a great big party there today.

I was in Saratoga all weekend at the races and wore my Mets hat both days. I've never had the amount of people yell "Go Mets" or something similar like they did this weekend. There's a definite vibe right now.

And when the bugler played the Diaz Timmy Trumpet/Narco entrance song in the concourse, there was a mini-roar. Good times to be a Mets fan.

I had my youngest daughter and oldest daughter and her boyfriend with me at the game yesterday. They've all been to plenty of games before but I can see that they are enjoying the experience a lot more because of the good vibe right now. The stairways were bellowing with "Let's Go Mets!" chants on the way out, and then the 7 train--complete with a healthy amount of drunk and happy fans--was a whole 'nother level--especially the good-natured ribbing of the handful of Phillies fans who were unfortunate enough to be in the same subway car.

Guillorme to the IL with groin strain. Expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Damn. Tough timing given the Braves-Phils-Yankees series these next two weeks.

Would have been the perfect chance to call up Baty since Escobar can't swing a bat either. Guess it's gonna be Katoh

Yeah I don’t get the reluctance to bring up Baty.

Gotta trust in Buck though.

Sounds like they wanted a guy who could play the middle infield positions. Wouldn't have been what I prioritized but I guess I can see it since there's no SS backup without Guillorme

Yep, that makes sense.

do the clubs still delay bringing up minor league players to delay their service time a la George Springer III to delay eligibility for arbitration?

It's called the "bandwagon".

If the playoffs started tomorrow, I’d have Walker as the odd man out of the starting rotation. These early inning hits/runs in bunches are killers.
Carrasco oblique strain; out 3-4 weeks.

This means Walker is now the fourth starter (fingers crossed for a good start from him tonight), Peterson comes back as the fifth man, and they will probably have to use Trevor Williams for the double-header this weekend.

If Walker is on, that's still a very good four-man rotation, but it starts to get thin and also weaken the bullpen after that.

Unless, of course, Darin Ruf is going to be a regular feature now, after his standout performance last night...

Ok, if Walker is hurt, now we got some issues.

Pressure was on the Braves to win the first two with Scherzer and deGrom going the last two against Odorizzi and most likely a rookie making his MLB debut. As long as we don't lose the next two we'll be fine. A 3.5 game lead with our September schedule and only 3 more total against the Braves puts us in good shape moving forward, and if we can take both then we'll be right back up to a 5.5 game lead and in the driver's seat for the division.
