Nebraska's move to the B1G didn't do them any favors recruiting wise. They used to do VERY well recruiting TX when they were in the B-12, not so much anymore with the move to the B1G. Like Iowa (and UCONN), they lack a solid home recruiting area.

Got his start at Toledo just like Matt Campbell.

I'm rooting for TJ but if he doesn't make it I want the school to take a shot with someone currently rising through the head coaching ranks. Lets bring some stock market wisdom to this search and not try to catch any falling knives. We just got cut up real bad.

Burton must be into stock market wisdom.

My top 3 right now in no particular order.......Herman from O$U, Campbell at Toledo, and Hudspeth at directional LA.

I'm also very open to Joe Moorhead.

I still like Pete Lembo from Ball State. He's been successful at every stop, been in several different regions of the country so he has that perspective too, and he is an east coast guy initially. I think he will be a Butch Jones type of coach. He'll very quickly build a solid competitive team. Of course when he does he might end up heading to the Big or somewhere but I'll take that chance. the problem with the other MAC guys is they don't have much track record. Campbell has no record to evaluate. Clawson has a record and its pretty average. people seem to be taken by his philosophy of wide open football, but I'd prefer that he have a couple of winning seasons to have a fun philosophy, but that's just me.

Problem with Moorehead, in addition to the problem of 1AA coaches moving up successfully, is that he's coaching in a lower level 1AA league right now. And on top of that he has 4 years of scholarship kids and he plays in a league that just started adding schollies this season. so it is extremely difficult to evaluate his performance. How much is coaching, how much is just having better players and more depth. I get that he beat Temple, but I think we would have beaten Temple even if Pasqualoni was still the coach. They are awful.
 
For what its worth I also think some people are underestimating the value of the UConn job. It is a better job than several and assuming there is a willingness to pay well, I think it will be attractive. Beyond that, there are only so many opportunities, and if you get offered a head coaching job at the D1A level, most guys are going to think long and hard before turning something like that down. If you get offered UConn and Iowa or USC, that's one thing, but guys who turn down head coaching jobs in hopes that a better one will come along in a year or so are taking a pretty big risk. You have a couple of average years at a big name program and suddenly you discover that some new guy is the hot coordinator and you're pigeon holed as a permanent coordinator. It is why a guy like Ron English took the Eastern Michigan job, for example, when that is a death trap for your career. UConn has excellent facilities, decent fan support that could become very good with success, and general university support all of which means you have a chance to be successful. Not os sure that is true of half the ACC, the Big or the B-12. Duke, Indiana, Iowa State and Kansas are always going to struggle more than we are to be successful.
 
I was watching Fox sports Live last night they had Mike Garafolo on talking about USC and UConn vacancies. Garafolo said he'd be surprised if offensive minded Jeff Tedford(Old Cal coach) didnt get a look by UConn.

Yeah but Duffy doesn't say what/who we need... He's a championship fence sitter (I do like his articles overall for the most part). He rarely goes out on a ledge.

The only "controversial" statement is the CT connection piece... HC doesn't necessarily need the connections but they sure as hell needs someone on their staff that does.

Absolutely this!

I agree 100%. I can't recall which poster had posted a map of college D-1 prospects from each state, but CT was surprisingly high per capita on that list. We rivaled some big "football states" in that map, and I'm sure even Duffy would be surprised with those numbers. Can we find someone that will deliver a Hernandez or a Bell? I don't know. We were very close in getting Hernandez. We got Stewart back. We got Boyle. We got Cochran. We got Orlovsky. And the bottom line is we need to win many of those in-state battles, if for no other reason than to show that UConn as a brand is growing...

If Lembo is our first MAC target Matt Campbell at Toledo should be right behind him, they had Ball State tied late in the 4th quarter last week at Ball State and gave Missouri a scare. The Buffalo coach is probably also worth keeping an eye on since he was the last football coach Warde hired and looks to have turned a corner in Buffalo.

BTW Cincy is probably already regretting not going after another MAC coach last year, their fans already hate Tuberville. They had a good string of success going with MAC coaches.

People like to root for the homies. I always get a charge out of seeing Max DiLorenzo and Bryon Jones out there an I'm sure others do as well. The local recruitng does require some politicking too. I agree with many that some of the hs coaches get a little out of hand, but that is the challenge. It is not unlike KO having to deal with AAU coaches to get a recruit. Not saying I like it, but it is part of the game.
 
If TJ is NOT the guy at the end of this season... I really think there should be more talk about Scott Frost from Oregon. Clearly our Offense has been the issue for years, and especially under FHCPP. Why not look at a strong, younger OC? Oregon has had an insane offense over the past few years. Exactly what we need here at UConn.

Eric Mangini
Pat Narduzzi
Chad Morris
Rob Ambrose
Mario Cristobal
Turner Gill
TJ Weist
Bob Diaco
Pete Lembo


Out of this list, for wat we need, the guys I like best are (not in order of fav): Narduzzi, Morris (pipe dream), Ambrose, Weist, Lembo (excluded Diaco because of he's considered a hot head)
 
Not a dig at you KTuck.......just my take on each of these guys.....

Eric Mangini - Laugh out loud funny
Pat Narduzzi - Is very possible
Chad Morris - Pipedream
Rob Ambrose - Is very possible
Mario Cristobal - Not sure
Turner Gill - WM will not hire him twice
TJ Weist - A longshot
Bob Diaco - Very boring. Personally I'm not interested in him or Narduzzi.
Pete Lembo - Is probably on Warde's list.

The 2 guys I'm most interested in are not even on this list. Herman, the OC at Ohio St. and Campbell, the HC at Toledo.
 
Is this list an old review cut and past from somewhere else because review mentions how they would or wouldn't fit at BC?
