Beating UCONN this year will be a very tall order for any team, but I think if a team comes out with a great game plan, then anything is possible. First off, you can't run with UCONN, teams that try to run with them get blown out early and often. You have to slow the game down, don't let them have second chance points and rebound, rebound, rebound. Don't turn the ball over, find a way to break their intense defensive pressure. UCONN scores points in flurries and at a quick rate. Sorta how like Mike Tyson knocked people out early and often. If you can survive the early flurries, then you have a chance later on in the game.

Well, there ya go. I hope none of the opposing coaches see this gameplan.

One word for you... "Geno"... He will have the starting 5... the next 4 plus the 2 walk-ons ready for UCONN Basketball! Even with 4 loses last year we were the team to beat in the Final Four! Even EDD said she was going for UCONN because it is hard to beat a good team 4x in a year!!! We lost a very good player in Kelly but the experienced the Sophmore gained will help fill that void.

For a program that has had 4 undefeated seasons, saying the best is yet to come is very heady. But I wondered about the new and improved Golden Age of UConn basketball myself. We have great classes from 2010, 2011, and 2012. Our 2013 class is small. We need to add more size in 2014. If we can get 3 of the top 6 in 2015, this could go on for a while, but more size is a key in 2014 and 2015.
3 of the top 6 seems a little unlikely, but 3 of the top dozen or so with some height is all Geno et. al. should need to keep the rockets roaring.

I agree that there are ways to compensate for lack of size, but in 2015, we'll have Breanna, who seems to be pushing 6'5", and Morgan, who is very close to 6'1" in reality. No one committed in 2014 is over 6'0", and our top recruits in 2015 are a wing and a guard. I'd love to have a couple more Kiah Stokes-type players coming in soon, especially when UT and ND have skilled bigs.
that is true MH- it does make it easier giving us a lot more flexibility and match up options!

How quickly I forgot about her. Terrific player.
Notre Dame has quite a nucleus and some real young talent coming in. They really are going to be dangerous and really are building to be very good for next 4 yrs--- if their point guard pans out with their young and very talented front line--- they will be competitive for a while!

Like what your saying however every great team has to have a smart point guard. ND is starting a freshman at the point this season. Could be an up and down season, I will take a wait and see approach.

Although the PG is a frosh, I look more to the overall talent they have in the backcourt. Loyd and McBride are both top-tier, AA-caliber talents and IMO will lessen the impact of having a young PG. (And Mabrey is certainly no slouch.)

The current injury situation will slow them down for awhile, particularly with Achonwa out. But by the time the tournament rolls around, I suspect that ND will, once again, be outperforming most early expectations.

Anyone know if Achonwa's ACL knee is the one with the torn meniscus?

Anyone know if Achonwa's ACL is the same one she tore before?

It's her meniscus, not her acl. She missed time with a torn meniscus a couple of years ago but I'm not sure if it's the same knee.

You are right. I guess I have ACLs on the brain.

In looking through some googled articles, I find mention of meniscus tears in both knees. Left (2011) and right (2012). Also mention of MCL tear to the left knee in 2011. However, the 2011 articles that I found seem to mention only one or the other (MCL or meniscus) injuries to the left knee, but not both. So I am questioning whether she really sustained both of these injuries in 2011. Perhaps there was some confusion in the initial reporting.
