I've made many predictions and sometimes I get hammered. The question will be over the next few seasons when will UConn lose. It will be interesting with the focus of the refs on physical play and if that will hurt UConn and it must be a concern with the short bench. However that short bench still has a lot of talented players and height. The other question is can UConn stay healthly? BB Stef and Bria all coming back from injuries and again a short bench. So injuries and foul trouble imo are the only deterents that can keep UConn losing a game and that would be a stretch.

However with the explosive offense and suffocating defense how will opponets out score UConn? You know its one thing to have great players and its another to have a great team. You can assemble a group of AAs but to get them to play as a team and to play defense as a team is a different horse with a different color.

UConn has 4 preseason AA's and imo if Mogan Tuck could start she would be on that list too. Morgan in high school was the number 1 ranked player in the country until she got hurt. Breanna took that spot over. I look to Morgan this season to emerge as a dominate scorer and force underneath.

We were National Champs last season and we have our entire team back except for Kelly. We also have 2 dominate scorers back for 2 more seasons in Breanna and KML. What we have is a group of kids who at anytime can put up 20 pts or more in any game. Many teams are happy with one great go to player. UConn has a roster full. With the scorers and shooters we have this season it will be hard to keep UConn from scoring 100 pts a game. Now Im sure Geno will slow the game down and pull back the pressure defense. However he must keep the kids aggressive and he cant let them stand of their heals with big leads. He cant have them going through the motions. Couple our offense with a man handling suffocating defense and most games this season will be over at half time.

When you look at players like Tina and Stef and see how Geno has developed our bigs. Then look at KML who has become more then just a shooter. You can see why kids want to play for UConn. Who wouldn't. This season MoJeff Morgan and Saniya will take big steps forward. The reason these kids continue to improve each season is the attitude Geno has them bring to practice. Its also the goals he sets for them each season. Its constant development mentally and athletically.

I am saying if UConn remains healthy this season they set more records. Most points scored and highest average points per game. I also think we will win every game by double digets unless we clear the bench to soon . The games at Duke and at Maryland will be tuff. Our defense will prevail. Our balanced offense will prevail.

In the end it wont get an sweeter then to win our 9th NC in Tenn.

I'm sure the Baylor fans felt the same way for 4 yrs with Griner in the
lineup. She could only muster up one National Championship in 4 yrs.
I doubt they ever dreamed they would be on the short end of the
biggest upset in the history of WBB with a Sweet Sixteen loss to
Louisville. I guess when your defense gives up 16 3's you should
expect to lose.
Uconn will have a bullseye on their back this season and will get
their opponents best shot. The question is, is their best shot good
enough to beat the Huskies. Time will tell. Baring any major
injuries the Huskies should a terrific season on the road to #9.

Not in any way disagreeing Tony
But with the pre-season games starting Friday.
The din caused by the absence of practice news is impressive.

And with the graduation of Kelly, there are some adjustment issues in roles that have to be worked out.
I'm not much concerned about D; concur that Morgan will step up big time on both ends.

My prediction is a tad of disunity at the outset in offensive flow
Which is completely invisible in a month or so
And which can also be made to appear non-existent if Stewie, or KML, or Bria or Banks or any combination go off.
As they are certainly wont to do.

Tony, do you recall your prediction from last year? Just curious, I'm sure your prediction of a championship must have been doubted.

Sally just like any human I occasionally have a doubt. It doesn't last more then a minute or so. We lost games last season due to injuries imo. When we got healthy we didn't. Hope to see you all on Friday

Difference is that UCONN and staff have extensive experience in managing those types of expectation and twice have taken teams to win streaks over 70 games and the better part of two seasons.

Baylor ending up squandering talent.

Ice, I'm a retired math teacher, but I forgot the formula for twice half twice unless, of course, it's just eight and counting, baby!

Tony, much as I enjoy your boundless enthusiasm & optimism (and I agree with what you've posted here), as Chief Didacticist I can no longer cringe & forget on one of your foibles without saying something. The word you should employ in text such as above is dominant not dominate.

Note: Emphasis in the quoted text is mine.

Doesn't matter. "Twice half twice" evaluates to 2 (half twice being once), which is the correct number. Even if you read it "Twice half" twice it comes out OK.

Bad upset, but not biggest.

Only once has it occurred, men or women, out of 148 opportunities in the NCAA tournament. And on home court, no less. Though argument is possible considering the injuries.

Boy, am I fractious today.

You gotta have dominate players to defeat tuff opponets. Otherwise you might loose.

There are several there that Uconn has no chance of breaking. Geno will not allow it.

Agree - BUT:
with the shortened bench
with the caliber and expectations for the bench players
with player's strongly competing for more game time
with the new back court rules and the shot clock
It may be difficult to manage limits.

96.7 ppg? No way.

The others? With the weaker conference it's a possibility.

They always get everyone's best shot. They are NOT Baylor, who was more of a two trick pony with Griner and Sims.

Speaking of which, what dire fate has befallen OneTrickPony?

Once Geno calls off the fast break and the pressure defense and plays units that often do not play together points are more difficult to get. It will be interesting to see if our half-court offense shows significant improvement with all the practice it is likely to get.
