The expanded College Football Playoff off to a rough start

16 is the right number. Then seed them. Exactly like every other division in college football.

That doesn't leave any deserving team out. You won't get a Cinderella every time. But when you do it's a huge story.

Define, "Deserving."

I don't think a deserving team was left out this year. To wit, 12 is the correct number.

Going to 16 is the smart play. Also don’t have so much time in between games.

If you don’t go to 16 then just fix the seeding and who gets byes.

I'd be fine with the current bye system but we absolutely need re-seeding and even possibly allow bye teams to play each other in the quarters

16 is too many.

I agree with to much time between the end of season and playoff as well as too much time between rounds. The National Champion used to be determined on Jan. 2. Then it was pushed back a week. We are at the end of January at this point. It's too long.

I still think 8 teams is fine. 16 is way too many. But if they stay at 12, then what I'd propose is no byes the first week so there are no teams with 3+ weeks of rest in the next round. You'd have six winners, top two remaining seeds get the bye the following week.

Every other college football division has had 16 for many years. It works fine. No one ever complains about it being too big.

Exactly. FCS playoffs are even more exciting that FBS. I mean we know NDSU or SDSU is basically going to win every year but there's a lot of good play off games.

They also start in late November and play every weekend until the championship game, just after New Years.

I 'm for knowing the National Champion before the NFL playoff start.

If there are no byes then it ends on the same day regardless.

12 is fine. Gap is probably the biggest problem. Seeding can be worked out. The rest is just conference politics

I guess my real gripe is the timeline, but at the same time, 12 teams does not exclude anyone worthy. Alabama, for example, wasn't left out. They had 3 losses, including Vanderbilt and 6-6 Oklahoma.

11 days between the start of the 1st round and Quarters. 10 days between and Qtrs and semis, and another 11 between the semis and title game.

That is over a week and a half of wasted time, just so the quarters can be tied to a bowl game. Since the start of the FBS playoffs, the NFL will have completed 3 weeks of regular season games, AND two rounds of playoffs.

The FBS championship game is on Monday and other than the outcome, I couldn't care less. My attitude will probably be more of a, "oh, that's nice." There are no storylines, talk, or continuous drama to stir up any stronger emotion for FBS. Pathetic. I have very little doubt that I'm the only one.

If you’re a UConn you are insane if you don’t support a bigger field.

So the number 1 team should have no problem beating the number 8 team right oh wait so now your saying it's unfair because Oregon got destroyed.
I'm sorry I disrespected a hypothetical 24th ranked uconn that would be invited to the broader more expansive tournament. What shall my penance be, sir?

1st of all, the playoffs will expand. The P4 can't help themselves.

No. 2, I'll cross that bridge when it shows on the horizon. I.e. no time soon.

They just had their first winning season since 2010. I'm rooting for a major conference affiliation, but they will never be considered as an Independent.

They have to straighten out the CFP timeline. Everything else falls into place.

Only possible access to an unaffiliated improving program like ours is more participation. Competitors compete, unless they don't get a chance, ie are denied access.

And a tournament which overincludes is silly. Participation trophies so we all feel special gooder.
