Hmm. The #1 QB is gone for good with head injuries. The O line is awful. Could well be the coach has decided that he's not going to risk the career of another young QB until the line shows some ability to hold off a pass rush on a consistent basis. We'll probably soon find out.
One thing that has happened that is a negative trend is the absence of some more imaginative play calling that seemed to have happened in the first few games. This is a team that might need more gimmick plays to help out in light of the inept O line.
Fact is, we have an inexperienced coach, with the leftovers from a crappy team, the QB who led them to 3 victories over 3 bad teams is gone (granted so is the interim HC). The D has been decent, but on the field way too much. Whether or not the coach is responsible for every bad penalty the team takes is open to question. The 2 procedure calls in a row after a favorable break is on the linemen. The offsides on the kickoff is a call we've seen more of this year, and it's probably a half beat early departure. Today it was glaring because it took away a TD on a horrible play by the Temple return guy, followed by the worst defensive series all day. Whitmer's 1st drive INT was a god awful pass, no doubt. The throw had to be at worst, overthrown. That aside, there were way too many situations where there was no pocket. Why does anyone think Boyle would get any better pass protection and not be on his rear end way too much?
