Boyle has all the smarts and athleticism to be the best since Dan O. If Diaco plays him enough we win, period! The next great era of UConn football begins this week.

Don't have to sell me on Tim Boyle. Unlike last year, I think that our coaching staff would be able to put live game action to good teaching use.

I guess we'll find out, but I didn't see anything last year that makes me think Boyle is the future. That he didn't make the 2-deep this year and listening to the Coach's comments doesn't lead me to expect too much. I hope I'm wrong.

After seeing the spectacular play of Houston sophomore, John O'korn (6'4 220, Boyle's size) last night (300 yds 3 td's) against BYU, I am convinced more than ever that Boyle should be the starter and Whitmer the back up. Granted Boyle had Baptism by fire last year but that experience coupled with the fact that he is bigger and stronger all tell me to give Boyle the ball and have Chandler as the back up. If we still see the same old same old from CW, it seems crazy that Boyle can't do better. My gut tells me we are more of big time program with Boyle in the game. The experience for 2015 will be a huge plus!

What is it that they say? "What doesn't kill you, only makes you stronger?"

How good did everyone think CC would be last year before they sat Boyle and started Casey? Everyone who had him having a 460 yard game please raise your hand.

I wonder if you see the irony here. I hope both of them play well enough that we all end up arguing who will get us to a bowl game this year.

I think the key is whether the offensive line can keep him alive. We will run out of QB's if the concussion crew doesn't give any QB more time than they have to date. I'm confident he has picked up the system enough to effectively use reps and make plays. He has a terrific arm but you can't throw long outs or downfield if you are on the ground wondering what day it is. Last year he went thru the buzz saw of our schedule and the offensive line protection was just that, OFFENSIVE. I have seen him in action and he can make all the throws but even Manning and Brady have tough days when the pocket breaks down with frequency, plus I believe he needs to gain trust in his receivers (this group has matured nicely and should certainly be much better). Last year they dropped several TD passes early in his tenure (game 1) and having been a QB, albeit certainly not of his caliber, that can impact the decisions you make, particularly when you are so young. He has a terrific arm, and graduating from Xavier is not a walk in the park so he probably is capable of learning and pictures of him this year don't look like a high schooler, they look like a collegiate QB. Hopefully he won't go thru Cochran's (what a terrible shame) experience and get cussed-out. Let him play and leave it all out on the field, then these discussions might have more merit.

I remember Des saying (seeing him for the first time after a spring of Balas training) that he looked more like a tight end.

The similar measeurables don't mean a thing. O'Korn started as a Freshman, was the AAC rookie of the year and 3rd team Freshman All-American last year. He is very good.
I think UConn fans will be very pleased with Boyle at the end of it all, but not because he's of a similar height/weight/age of another successful QB. Boyle has the arm, has the feet, he's had expereince playing at this speed. I think over the course of this year he puts it all together and becomes a very productive QB for UConn (provided the OL does their bit).... But let's give him some time (the better part of this season, not a couple series) before we decide whether we should crown him or drown him.

Yes, but watching Whitmer makes you think he is starter material.

whaaaa? crown, drown - Friday night, watch the sause!

Boyle is not ready. He will struggle immensely if put in. He is not the answer

OK, vs Whitmer who struggled immensely vs Stonybrook? I trust jun Diaco so while it may not be this weekend it will be very soon when they realize Boyle will be the future and this year should be played for next. Patience!

I just know for a fact that if you RS him he will be a monster in 2017. ;)

Ok I am trying to wrap my head around what Diaco is thinking ...

1) Doesn't want Boyle to get hurt behind a bad online... (At least Boyle steps into the pocket btw)

I would buy this except Boyles redshirt is gone, he is not learning from watching Whitmer panic under pressure. If Boyle were to get injured ... As bad as it sounds he would have ample recovery time until next year.

2) Whitmer makes mistake after mistake...... Blame the oline whoever .... But mistake after mistake happens with Whitmer .... He keeps being called on. Boyle makes one mistake he's out for game ... Zero opportunity to learn and IMO diaco did more to harm Boyle by hindering his ability to learn and redeem himself than to dwell and feel like crap for two weeks.

3) chances of a winning season or .500 are unlikely .... It will be interesting to see if Diaco goes to Whitmer after hope of post season is gone or if he goes to fix over Boyle... At which point it would seem Boyle is not the future

You have to wonder what Boyle thinks of this as well.

.-.
Joe D mentioned this towards the end of the game. Whitmer is one hit away from a career ending concussion and Boyle is not up to par at his point with his recovery. He said this is why they have been running Fox in the Wildcat at practice. We are in big trouble IMO.......

So if Boyle can't play why did they put him in for the third drive? The script said so?

Kevin and Joe D said: "whatever the Boyle situation really is....." They clearly don't know what the hell is going on with him, but they did know we've been running Fox in the wildcat at practice. That was the first I heard of that, did anyone else know about the Fox experiment because I didn't.

I can understand what HCBD is thinking in terms of protecting Boyle but at this point you need to make a decision terrible OL or not. Play Boyle or run the option with Foxx until we get something right. CW has really sacrificed for this program and doesn't deserve the blame for our ineptitude, but it's just not working and he would be better served working with the Coaches and QB's.

Does Whitmer deserve the blame for his own ineptitude?

Bob Diaco is clearly in over his head. Warde made a bad hire. Offense looks o much different when Boyle is in. Time to end the Whitmer experiment

.-.
I really question Diaco's mental stability. One WTF decision after another. His comments and actions certainly don't add up.
