The 2025 journey begins…

A year later, with a new passing game coordinator and a new offensive line, we will need to see who fits the offense the best. Evers needs to be healthy and read the defense better and deliver better short and intermediate balls. Fagnano really improved but doesn't provide the dual threat that they wanted.

In looking back, the outside zone blocking is at full affect when the QB can keep it and run. It helps the Tackles and freezes the LBs. We got bogged down a little in the middle of the year (see Temple and Rice) when that QB threat wasn't there. That is why I think we saw Mora sticking with Evers until he couldn't anymore.

With running backs we have a dual threat isn't a necessity. If the threats are turnovers and incompletions, well who needs that anyway.

I wanted Evers to step up last year but he didn’t. Fagnano did. With his performance last year I can’t even imagine a scenario where he isn’t #1 coming into the season. He is ranked in the Top 25 quarterbacks on Fox Sports. He rarely threw an int, I think he had 5 at least 2 of which were the result of opponents making great plays or our guy dropping it. And for a guy who wasn’t known as a runner, he was rarely sacked and when he was pressured he rarely did dumb things with the football. When he did run he made solid gains. He might not have been in the Heisman picture but by most statistical analyses he was an above average college quarterback. We might not have recognized it because it has been so long since we have seen such a thing wearing national flag blue and white!

It turned out just to be a snapshot but for a good portion of that Duke game, the Devils did not have an answer for Evers. I remember thinking "that's what Mora's plan is". Then he failed to close.

Thought his best game was Wake Forest. I had hoped he could build off that, but next game back to 79 yds passing. You're just not gonna win with no passing threat.

That's interesting. As we sat in the Duke stadium the consensus of the UConn contingent was that our inability to move the ball in the second Q required a change of QB's at halftime. Ever's lack of accuracy (coupled with poor play calling) later cost us the game. We likely win that game with JF playing the 2nd half. Que sera sera.

Beautiful weather outside and first day of Spring practice. I'm ready for football!! (Yeah this is baseball weather but I'm missing football)

Has it been confirmed yet that Fagnano is coming back? Last i read he said he would participate in the spring but hadn't fully decided if he was coming back to school in the fall.

Every QB in the country is exploring options at the end of every year. We better get used to the idea that you get 1 year max, to "develop" a backup into your starter.

Anyone worth playing is going to be offered a chance to move up or down, every year. Your multi year backups are your actual student athletes. They are staying for the school instead of moving down to play.

If we can sign the right guy, I don't care if they are here for a year. There were playoff teams with first year transfers at QB. It's only a matter of time before we have a QB that makes the playoff with multiple teams.

I don’t think this applies to Fagnano. If he is planning on playing this fall he’s a virtual lock to start if he stays. That’s what I mean.

Of course if some ACC team offered and wanted him to start that might change things.

I think some of it will also depend on whether or not he wants to make a pro try in the CFL or something. Also he's guaranteed the starting role. Lot of things can happen of course

You are right until the day comes when a redshirt Jr leads a team to a deep playoff run or even a win. When that happens suddenly everyone will be talking about that being the next thing. We saw this in the basketball world when it turned out that the tournament wasn’t being won by teams with 4 1-dones and a sophomore after Calipari “reinvented college basketball “ at Kentucky. Over time experience became the watchword. You might have a 1-done kid but older guys were stronger, more knowledgeable etc.

He would probably make more money with certainty at UConn than in the CFL.

Nobody is a virtual lock. The minute we have that, we will be back to 3-9. Spots are earned, not given. And a guy we all thought was in over his head 12 months ago is NOT a virtual lock.

Bad attempt at humor. We have dozens of posters who are not all in but take up reps/posts.
Disclaimer: following post is less than 1% in.

This is a message board about football. In the grand scheme of things, not one bit of anything posted here means anything NOR has any effect on the coaches/teams. Plus what is the definition of "all in", as I may need to adjust my percentage listed above.

“I’m gonna call out posters for not trying hard enough, let me get this half-baked thought posted ASAP!”

A UConn QB stater probably makes more than developmental CFL player.

Once again with feeling...

I don't think he's going to be the UConn QB in 2026.

Edit: to make it perfectly clear, I don't think in any way he's trialing to try to be a pro this year. I don't know why either of you took it that way. I think you both know his eligibility runs out this year
