Every QB in the country is exploring options at the end of every year. We better get used to the idea that you get 1 year max, to "develop" a backup into your starter.

Anyone worth playing is going to be offered a chance to move up or down, every year. Your multi year backups are your actual student athletes. They are staying for the school instead of moving down to play.

If we can sign the right guy, I don't care if they are here for a year. There were playoff teams with first year transfers at QB. It's only a matter of time before we have a QB that makes the playoff with multiple teams.

I don’t think this applies to Fagnano. If he is planning on playing this fall he’s a virtual lock to start if he stays. That’s what I mean.

Of course if some ACC team offered and wanted him to start that might change things.

I think some of it will also depend on whether or not he wants to make a pro try in the CFL or something. Also he's guaranteed the starting role. Lot of things can happen of course

You are right until the day comes when a redshirt Jr leads a team to a deep playoff run or even a win. When that happens suddenly everyone will be talking about that being the next thing. We saw this in the basketball world when it turned out that the tournament wasn’t being won by teams with 4 1-dones and a sophomore after Calipari “reinvented college basketball “ at Kentucky. Over time experience became the watchword. You might have a 1-done kid but older guys were stronger, more knowledgeable etc.

He would probably make more money with certainty at UConn than in the CFL.

Nobody is a virtual lock. The minute we have that, we will be back to 3-9. Spots are earned, not given. And a guy we all thought was in over his head 12 months ago is NOT a virtual lock.

Bad attempt at humor. We have dozens of posters who are not all in but take up reps/posts.
Disclaimer: following post is less than 1% in.

This is a message board about football. In the grand scheme of things, not one bit of anything posted here means anything NOR has any effect on the coaches/teams. Plus what is the definition of "all in", as I may need to adjust my percentage listed above.

A UConn QB stater probably makes more than developmental CFL player.

Once again with feeling...

I don't think he's going to be the UConn QB in 2026.

Edit: to make it perfectly clear, I don't think in any way he's trialing to try to be a pro this year. I don't know why either of you took it that way. I think you both know his eligibility runs out this year

You probably still think Evers is dual threat too.

Based on the results Fagnano delivered it's hard to see anyone overtaking him. Unless one of the younger guys make a huge jump.

Given how reliable fagnano was in live play both will have to be head and shoulders above him in practice.

-> “(Spring practice is about) figuring out what we’ve got, who they are, what they do well, where they struggle, how we can help them along, and then how we form our concepts around what our players do best. Constant evaluation – besides development, it’s evaluation,” Mora told The Courant. “We’re under evaluation from (players), they want to know how they fit in. And you have the ability now to make moves after the spring and people aren’t shy about doing that, we won’t be shy about doing that. So it puts some pressure on everybody, and I think pressure is good for us.” <-

-> There are seven quarterbacks on the spring roster. …“I like the depth there,” Mora said. “The competition is going to be intense and that’s what brings out the best in everybody. It was a surprise, to say the least, that we found out that Joe had like an 18th year (of eligibility). But I think that Nick has responded really well, Joe has responded well, I think Cole has responded well to just knowing that it’s going to be a very competitive environment.” <-

->The group will be coached by new passing game coordinator Pryce Tracy, who has experience coaching at Georgia, Alabama and Notre Dame. Tracy replaces Brad Robbins, who left for Tulsa’s offensive coordinator job. “That’s the trigger man,” Mora said. “Brad did an outstanding job, but bringing in Pryce, just a new voice for those quarterbacks. He’s hard on ’em, he’s tough on ’em, he’s very demanding. I think they’ve really reacted well and it will be fun to just see what he can continue to add.” <-

I wish they would talk about other receivers besides Bell. He isn’t good enough for the offense to run through him. Would like to hear about others.

Interesting comment from Bell at the end of the Courant article. Can't fully read into anything but his comments make it sound like he's pulling for Evers to be QB

(Evers) thinks he’s getting big… He’s getting strong, so I can’t wait to see what he does in the spring and in the season,” Bell said. “Hopefully we keep building and keep adding and keep earning the coach’s trust so we can put in some things that maybe we didn’t have last year to get guys open, get guys the ball and let us make plays.
