I'm hoping his brother Cole wins the starting job.I’m betting on Case Welliver. Just a gut.

To show how fickle fans can be, Philly fans were questioning the big contract Hurts got after last year. The lesson, chill.I’m pleased to hear Joe is back. I wasn’t a Fagnano guy. Unimpressed with his play which was admittedly limited in 2023 and I saw him play at Maine and thought he was nothing special. But last year he really stepped up. Made plays in big moments. Didn’t turn it over. He is not ever getting confused with Jalen Hurts, but he is a solid college quarterback. That’s something we haven’t had in quite a while.
Any of you recruit evaluators care to opine about Wellivers "dual threatness"? Can he take off and run, will he have run first plays ala Hurts, Josh Allen and Jayden DanielsTo show how fickle fans can be, Philly fans were questioning the big contract Hurts got after last year. The lesson, chill.
What’s interesting to me is that HCJM seems to prefer a dual threat. Let’s see the progression each of the 4 made and see if we can cheer for the kids on the field, rather than against them.
His reputation and scouting is pro style, not dual threat. He has the height to deliver the ball over a dynamic pocket.Any of you recruit evaluators care to opine about Wellivers "dual threatness"? Can he take off and run, will he have run first plays ala Hurts, Josh Allen and Jayden Daniels
Asking because I don't know.
You spelled "too" wrong in a post criticizing other posters' spelling. This too is "typical Boneyard."Seeing 3 people in this thread looking forward to Welliver and yet getting his first name wrong is just to funny. Typical Boneyard.
Case is totally an under the radar guy. Don't sell him short. He's never been intercepted.I'm hoping his brother Cole wins the starting job.
I say blame spellcheck. Not the reason, but blame them anyway!Seeing 3 people in this thread looking forward to Welliver and yet getting his first name wrong is just to funny. Typical Boneyard.
This is who JF is. All the way back to when he started at Maine. He is maddeningly inconsistent. He will make a few transcendent plays and then throw some 5 yard lasers that are uncatchable. It was literally hit and miss. When the pass was thrown in stride it was a thing of beauty. But there were plenty of blown passes AND also dropped balls on well thown balls. Here's hoping a full offseason of continuity improves timing and rhythm between QB and the WR corps. That is why I am confident Sammis' schemes were good and it wasn't just an uptick in talent.
These are the posts I find incredible on this forum. IF JF is "maddeningly" inconsistent, what do we call every other QB that has come through here post DO? Does he miss some throws? Who doesn't?This is who JF is. All the way back to when he started at Maine. He is maddeningly inconsistent. He will limit turnovers, manage the game, and sometimes shine. He is a solid FBS quarterback and I would love to have him leading the team again for one more year.
To answer your question, we would call almost every other post-Orlovsky QB who has come through here awful, horrible, attrocious, or something similar. It's truly impressive how horrendous our QB play has been for the better part of two decades. We've made it look like moving the ball through the air is a herculean task. These are the posts I find incredible on this forum. I'd think given how he took a listless offense against UAB and turned a certain loss into a win, and rallying the team back in 4th quarter against Temple after he and the team struggled in that game, that we would collectively think that we have a GUY here who is a net positive. A guy whose other teams starter isn't automatically better than our guy.
At least you called him a solid FBS QB, that is more than what others call him.
If 1 thing is clear, it's we shouldn't assume a transfer from Penn State or Wisconsin or pick your P5 school, that hasn't seen the field is automatically better than a guy that put up numbers in FCS. There is a reason FCS schools upset FBS and P5 schools. There is or was major talent at that level.
Good chance autocorrect changed his name.Seeing 3 people in this thread looking forward to Welliver and yet getting his first name wrong is just to funny. Typical Boneyard.
I dunno what planet you're on but I've been one of the biggest JF defenders on this board. I was calling for a Joe Fagnano redemption thread when others around here were still saying he was the worst quarterback in program history. These are the posts I find incredible on this forum. Joe offers competency+. He sould gel with OC Sammis even more this year, hope the new QB coach is a value added guy. More importantly, the support around him on offense should be even better this year, from the line to the receivers, and while Robinson was a loss, a return to form by Rosa would give us a nice 3 back rotation. WE should be able to move the ball pretty well in 25, we are due for a healthy year from our starting QB. And the wild card is Welliver. Can he win the job? If he can beat out JF and NE, we'd really have something. Exciting stuff.I dunno what planet you're on but I've been one of the biggest JF defenders on this board. As a Maine fan I've watched this kid forever. I believe he should be our starter next year. But realistic expectations are in order.
Yeah. He's not being drafted in the 7th round but he's alright for us.I dunno what planet you're on but I've been one of the biggest JF defenders on this board. Maddeningly disappointing?IF JF is "maddeningly" inconsistent, what do we call every other QB that has come through here post DO?
I'm hopeful that the Evers that we saw last year was less than 100% this year and that next year, he is more the player that we all thought we were getting. That still might not be enough to win the starting job though.Yeah. He's not being drafted in the 7th round but he's alright for us.
Unless JF pulls up lame in camp he's got to be the starter. If Evers finds a way to turn it around, great but JF has proven himself
I'm hoping Titus Welliver wins the job. Local guy from New Haven and I loved watching him in Bosch.I'm hoping his brother Cole wins the starting job.
I agree with this. There is definitely a shortage of NFL type arms in CF. Just look at the playoffs this year. Most got by with good smart game managers who can either pull it down or make a throw. Reminds me of our guy,JF. I’m happy just finding a way to win. These are the posts I find incredible on this forum. What are realistic expectations? 2024 he was 18th in passing yards per completion and 15th in whatever passing efficiency in NCAA (above Quinn Ewers of Texas). Somehow this doesn't pass the "what was I thinking when watching JF play test" (not that I'm any more than a casual fan).I dunno what planet you're on but I've been one of the biggest JF defenders on this board. Case is the "UConn 2020 team" of the Welliver familyCase is totally an under the radar guy. Don't sell him short. He's never been intercepted.
Agreed based on the data at hand. But NE might have played almost the entire season hurt. So, for this upcoming season the jury may still be out.We have a pretty good sample size and JF is much much better than NE
why create problems?Puhlease can someone say Cole Welliver is potentially the starter, overcoming the experience and proven success of Joe Fagnano, and the ....ummm potential of Nick Evers? There, I said it, Welliver may start! I am a big Fagnano fan, have been since he got here. Still want to see him relegated to grizzled old veteran helping the streaking comet RS Freshman gunslinger from Texas negotiate his first season.
Good imagination, fever dream or just plain old delusional?
Nice problem to havewhy create problems?
That’s our job here.why create problems?
It’s like you’ve never been here before!why create problems?
