Fagnano had a very good year. He is by no means a great QB, but his numbers speak to themselves as him having played far, far more than competently. If Welliver is better than him, great. But I’d be really surprised if that was where the smart money is.
I’m pleased to hear Joe is back. I wasn’t a Fagnano guy. Unimpressed with his play which was admittedly limited in 2023 and I saw him play at Maine and thought he was nothing special. But last year he really stepped up. Made plays in big moments. Didn’t turn it over. He is not ever getting confused with Jalen Hurts, but he is a solid college quarterback. That’s something we haven’t had in quite a while.

As much fun as it is having a good football team, it’s even better that they seem to be a good group of guys. For example, not only did Skyler Bell return; he’s a big hockey fan! I love that!

To show how fickle fans can be, Philly fans were questioning the big contract Hurts got after last year. The lesson, chill.

What’s interesting to me is that HCJM seems to prefer a dual threat. Let’s see the progression each of the 4 made and see if we can cheer for the kids on the field, rather than against them.

Any of you recruit evaluators care to opine about Wellivers "dual threatness"? Can he take off and run, will he have run first plays ala Hurts, Josh Allen and Jayden Daniels

Asking because I don't know.

His reputation and scouting is pro style, not dual threat. He has the height to deliver the ball over a dynamic pocket.

Seeing 3 people in this thread looking forward to Welliver and yet getting his first name wrong is just to funny. Typical Boneyard.
I say blame spellcheck. Not the reason, but blame them anyway!

It was literally hit and miss. When the pass was thrown in stride it was a thing of beauty. But there were plenty of blown passes AND also dropped balls on well thown balls. Here's hoping a full offseason of continuity improves timing and rhythm between QB and the WR corps. That is why I am confident Sammis' schemes were good and it wasn't just an uptick in talent.
This is who JF is. All the way back to when he started at Maine. He is maddeningly inconsistent. He will make a few transcendent plays and then throw some 5 yard lasers that are uncatchable.

He will limit turnovers, manage the game, and sometimes shine. He is a solid FBS quarterback and I would love to have him leading the team again for one more year.

These are the posts I find incredible on this forum. IF JF is "maddeningly" inconsistent, what do we call every other QB that has come through here post DO? Does he miss some throws? Who doesn't?

I'd think given how he took a listless offense against UAB and turned a certain loss into a win, and rallying the team back in 4th quarter against Temple after he and the team struggled in that game, that we would collectively think that we have a GUY here who is a net positive. A guy whose other teams starter isn't automatically better than our guy.

At least you called him a solid FBS QB, that is more than what others call him.

If 1 thing is clear, it's we shouldn't assume a transfer from Penn State or Wisconsin or pick your P5 school, that hasn't seen the field is automatically better than a guy that put up numbers in FCS. There is a reason FCS schools upset FBS and P5 schools. There is or was major talent at that level.
