Didn't we say that same thing about JC like 5 years ago when we hired Ollie and yet he's still in the game. He's immortal I think.

He spent 4 years broadcasting for a few months out of the year, dealing with far less strenuous conditions than his time coaching. He's currently organizing a low-level DIII program an hour from his house, and all of his scouting trips with Glen Miller have been in-state affairs.

Yes he's still in the game, but JC doing his thing is near impossible to compare to Matta running a DI program where excellence is expected.

I'm curious, what would a coach at UConn have to do to get fired? Say Ollie stays and the team is under .500 again next season. Is that the appropriate time?

I guess you can argue whether Ollie deserves to be fired or not but what's undeniable is that Ollie has done a poor job assembling a team, coaching it and running the program. It's as clear as the nose on your face. Does he have the ability to change? I thought that was the discussion Benedict and he had after last season.
You would think this fan base had never experienced winning or greatness. How disciples of Calhoun could be so complacent and cool with a soft, ill-prepared team is beyond me. We know what winning takes, and it’s clear that Ollie and co. are not up to the task

We need a complete coach not just a guidance counselor. Fundamentally, we have the weakest program in the nation. Unfortunately, given our programs status, the only way we can win is with fundamentals. Trending Mid-Major! Unacceptable.

It's a message board. As far as I can remember, 99% of the "fire KO" crowd have focused mostly on the basketball related reasons - and there are many at this point - that he should be let go, and haven't gotten nasty at all.
So I'm hallucinating when I recall lots if posts about his personal life, his divorce, his sex life - must have been readimg a different forum about a different coach my bad

Genuine question, why don't you think he should be fired?
Because of the reasons willie said. And I think he can coach a team that he puts together much better than he has the last 2 years and I would like to see him do it. I don’t see any college basketball programs firing coaches and becoming great for years. I don’t know that there is a replacement coach that I wish we had right now. Just my opinion.

Nice try.

Tulsa got in as an at-large. So would we.

That is true.

But everyone, including you, saw that Cincy game as a must-win. The fact is, we were a Jalen Adams miracle shot away from losing a game that everyone thought we absolutely needed to have.

I've had similar hallucinations, including a certain poster saying that Ollie going to West Hartford was a sign of how bad he had become...

...West Hartford...

Not a fan of firing him. I do agree last years and this years teams would have won an additional 12 to 15 games except for Ollie. I do not see a need to kick him while he is down with insults, but that's just me. He has done more for the program than any of us could dream. I don't buy the "He lucked into a title" line, or "Boat or whomever was a coach on the floor"(as if this is a pick up game at the local Y). He HAS fallen off, pretty clear. I still think he can get it back Fully aware that I could be wrong. Either way, I will always be a fan of KO. (well unless some grim news appears that none of could foresee).

More importantly, Jalen said he's coming back regardless of if KO is back or not, although he did give a nod of appreciation to KO

Could you imagine JA's talent with some real coaching, innovative offensive schemes, and holding players accountable to show toughness?

Whatever. That wasn't my point. I'm not even sure what you think I was trying to do in your fevered imagination.

Fact is, in a season of promise, the goal was not to squeak into the tournament as one of the last 4 at large teams.

We happened to lose our McDonald's All American and probably our best PG. That's a might big injury for a team that started the season short handed

Terry Larrier was recovering from a torn ACL, not an easy thing to do. Then, when he was playing a little better and the team looked like they were jelling in January and won three straight, he fractures his nasal cavity and he sucks the rest of the year

Actually having to explain this to UConn fans is pathetic, and it's no surprise what people like your post either. The only teams they ever make excuses for are our opponents, because it advances their hatred of Ollie narrative. That's all that matters to some, the nuances of the truth be damned

Many of our opponents faced worse injury problems than that. You're just looking for excuses for what is, at best, gross incompetence by our coaching staff. The team Ollie had this year, with the injuries, was disorganized, didn't play hard, had no semblance of an offensive or defensive identity, and looked unprepared for almost every game they played. Those players, if well coached, could easily have won many more games, and wouldn't have lost by 20 eight times.

I wanted them to win. I wanted Ollie to succeed. He has failed.

Well yes. In hindsight, winning vs. Cincy and then going on that mini-run through the conference tourney got us out of the first round. With a more favorable draw, I think that a S16 berth wouldn't have been out of the question; people will flame me as some sort of apologist for saying this, but that was a 3-game stretch of pretty gutsy basketball we played. Had we lost vs. Cincy, especially on a 3OT buzzer-beating 3, I think the team would've gone home after one game.

I'm not arguing that it wasn't an important game. I'm arguing against the clear statement that we would not have made the tournament were it not for that shot.

Then the question remains. When does the trigger get pulled or not pulled. Pitt pulled the trigger the next day, obviously their situation is worse but still. Time will tell I guess.

AD Dave put KO and the program on notice after last year's abortion.

What could he have possibly seen this year to suggest that any of his concerns from a year ago have been addressed?

He can't put people on notice, witness the season we just had, and then retain everybody, if he wants to maintain any credibility.
