So you are readily admitting that you are pointlessly whining? Why pointlessly do anything?
Why, indeed, post and read message boards? It has no impact on reality. You just saved me a lot of time this weekend, so thank you.

Based on what?
I don't see how any of these schools are better at football than WV and Pitt.

Boise St. would destroy Pitt or WVU most years and BYU is consistently ranked higher than Pitt.

You are too easily impressed by a school that plays flotsam in a very very very weak conference. Boise St., like all the other similar schools that have gone before it, experiences no headwind during the season, and gets some notoriety later on.

Look at how Utah is doing in the Pac-10. They are roadkill. Utah was Boise St. before Boise St. Now their program is in tatters.

This is what happens when teams have to bring it each and every week.

Don't be so easily impressed by BSU.

But look at what Utah has done to Pitt when they play them. Utah is far better than Pitt. Boise St. and BYU are as well. They are on a similar level to WVU but I think most of the last few years WVU would not have beaten either of them.

UConn has beaten Pitt quite a few times too. I disagree Utah is far better than Pitt. Ain't buying it.
I don't think these schools are as good as WV either. BSU has had two years including this year when they are better, but that doesn't make them a better football program. I'm not at all sold on these schools when they face such weak competition week after week.
If you ask most people about Pitt vs. Utah, they would probably shrug and call it a wash. If you ask most football conferences if they'd prefer Boise football versus WV football, they would take WV.

Let's face it, the old geographical setup of conferences and rivalries is becoming a thing of the past. While very hard to accept, it's reality. The setup described in the NY Times I think is the best we can do at this point in time. Temple and Memphis give us a great basketball base and hopefully over time their FB steps up. Not much in the way of fan based road trips unfortunately...

We struggle to recruit in an AQ, and you want to take your chances outside of the AQ's?

Can we get serious?

I'm totally serious. It would be my preference. We would have no problem with scheduling a national slate. I think all options need to be considered. We all know that this ridiculous conglomeration is a marriage of convenience and we would be whoring ourselves out to another conference anyway. How long do you think we would stay in this conference?

The problem is that we'd likely have to play a very poor home slate, and play all of our tough opponents on the road. It would kill attendance.

I would swap out Memphis for Southern Miss.

You're joking right?

So Miss brings no markets, no name recognition, and is the 3rd-best team in the worst FB-playing state in the South. Other than that, they're perfect.

Recruits care about exposure and TV time. As an independent with freedom to schedule everyone we would at worst be even to media exposure with this hodge lodge and likely better. Not to mention we would sell out season tix and likely expand the rent sooner this way. Show me a national TV deal for this new conference and I'll change my mind but until then I think I'm willing to give-up the AQ (assuming that this new conference would keep it anyway) to be Indy for FB

It doesn't matter how long I think we'll be in the conference. What matters is that the football program is in a BCS conference, because if it isn't you can forget going head to head with Pitt, Cuse, RU and BC for recruits.

We need to recruit the North East's best. We don't win enough battles as it is, and I can promise you, if we were to find ourselves outside of the AQ, this would not improve.

The biggest mistake the BE football schools made is relied on the idea that they somehow needed the basketball schools to remain a top basketball conference.

If they had split, they would have had their own lucrative TV package by now.

I wonder if these schools are going to pony up the $2k per player.

Maybe

I agree that the road slate would be stronger but I think tht the home slate would e stonger roght off the bat than even this year. Im quite sure that we would get our former conference brethren and many other FBS programs to replace our MAC teams in even home and homes.

Nutmeg show me where this new conference has been promised its AQ status. I think an indy UConn could negotiate some bowl tie-ins. Obviously not bcd bowls but the goal would be to increase exposure and growth of the UConn fb brand to get invited that much sooner. All I'm saying is that Indy may b a viable option given for UConn.

Yeah fans just love watching a team that has no goals, since independents have no shot at a bowl bid.

ND? Obviously we're not getting their tie-in but we may be able to negotiate one. Our schedule would be better and we'd have control over it. Yeah our northeast recruits are going to just salivate about a road trip to Hattiesburg Mississippi like some here would suggest.

Scooby, trust me, it's not a viable option. We can agree to disagree.

Independence isn't an option! What is so hard to understand?

No TV contract.
No BCS Access.
No Bowl Tie-Ins.
Scheduling becomes anightmare.

I love how you can just say, well we can schedule home and homes so easy.

If we can't do that from a BCS platform what makes you think as an Independent would could make that work?

Independence would look like:

Army
Navy
UMass
Buffalo
Temple
Rutgers (maybe)
Toledo
Akron
Ohio
Then after the home and homes above we could sign 3-1 deals with teams like NC State, Baylor, Iowas State or Wake Forest.

Really nutmeg you're in the UConn admin? We disagree fine. This proposed conference won't make me travel to most of the away games that's for sure.

Con husk Bask tone it down. No need for personal attacks. Day one we would have home and homes with our old conference mates and several other bcc teams so I think you overstate that part. I already agreed that the bcs tie in is a problem and im presupposing that we would negotiate some. If we couldnt hen indy would probably die but i hope our admin is onsidering it. Dude you guys are assuming that this abortion would get a tv deal I'm not buying that. No one in Dallas gives a hoot about smu. Ucf will deliver households? Come on.
