The irony of the Ball vs Mahaney argument, with all due respect to Diarra, is our best lineup might have both starting.
Diarra is our best floor general now. Nowell will learn a lot from him. Ball and Maheney are our best 2s, but Ball is more combo and Maheney more cerebral and a facilitator. Unlike our front court, our back court has very different styles of play.

Doesn't that mean Mahaney is a "floor general"? I'm confused.

Maheney was counted on as a scorer at St. Mary's and less of a floor general - he is a true combo guard and IMHO a better 2 than a 1 from what I have seen. Diarra, seems similar, an inch shorter, but has become a better 1 than a 2 in terms of handling the ball, distributing, and driving. He can also shoot the 3, but I would rather see Diarra bring the ball up than Maheney.

Think we may have something here if he continues to get stronger. I think he’s suppose to be 7’?

Last year he seemed too weak to get above the rim at the time. But he seems to get up a little easier in these videos. If he can be that lob threat and have some strong post moves he could be a valuable contributor down the road.

Also being a big talker as a center is a really really valuable skill! Have to communicate back there.
NBA Clingan and Reed are great practice mates for development. Can also include SJ as well. If our Centers aren't developing with such talented daily practice matchups then they don't want to get better.

Just saying in 4 years he will be ready to kick everyone's arse.

Man I wouldn’t surprised if he was ready as soon as next year. It honestly just depends on when his body is ready. The biggest thing last year was that he looked like a baby deer.

Hoping for a genuinely Hilton-like development for Singare here. I can’t stress how great it is the energy he plays with. A kid like that is going to get better and take everything in coaching wise.

Organized chaos might be the best way to describe it, as UConn's staff puts pressure on players to simulate Final Four-level intensity in every drill, thus rendering Big East games seem easy in comparison.

"It looks like you've taken a hard fall," Hurley's Apple Watch informed him after one of his particularly dramatic reactions to a poor closeout.

"Do you want to call for an emergency?" the watch asked. Hurley tapped no.

Hurley then yelled to his team: "You guys are stealing taxpayers' money" after a missed rotation. The quip came in between one of the thousands of F-words unleashed on his players, who are used to Hurley's coaching style.

Also this:

Most (or least) surprised by ...

Solomon Ball, with his 6-foot-10 wingspan and outstanding shooting, looks like a candidate to move into the starting lineup after playing 11 minutes per game last season. He had an excellent practice showing dynamic perimeter shooting ability and versatility on both ends of the floor. The evolution of his shot creation, defensive awareness and feel for the game will determine what kind of NBA prospect he can develop into, but he looks poised to make a jump as a sophomore.

The eyeball test says ...

Liam McNeeley is a perfect fit for this Huskies program, and vice versa. UConn staff members have been raving about McNeeley, praising his work ethic, feel for the game and how he approaches film study.

He was their loudest player in practice and seems like he's going to have quite a bit of offense running through him, similar to how Spencer was utilized last season, as he could very well end up being the team's leading scorer. His defense, while not yet a strength, is not poor by any means thanks to his mentality. It's hard to see McNeeley not having a lottery-type campaign, but we'll have to see how the season goes.

McNeeley is that dude, I can't stress enough what a huge late pickup he was.

Haven't seen this posted yet:

Great vid. I know it's a practice vid with no defense. But JS's stroke is looking smooth and effortless from all parts of the court. If he can bring that to the games along with his D-Gonna be huge for our (and his) success this year.

The combo guard/wing depth on this team is going to be crazy. Ball, Mahaney, Stewart, McNeeley, Karaban all getting positive press from these early practices. That's what's going to make this team back to back to back champs
