Stetson at #9 Tennessee (SEC Network Plus)

On the Muffet Tweets thread, I post the last 4 years of WCBB attendance and Tenn has been hemorrhaging fans, they still draw well but from high 10,500 to mid 8,800 in the last 3 years.
When my younger daughter played AAU hoops in Alabama, the team was invited to attend a game at Tennessee. The place was packed on a Sunday afternoon The area was full of people, restaurants were full, parking was scarce and fans were pumped. That was probably in 2004. Pat was still the queen, and their teams were quite good then. I think they said attendance was around 14,000 that day. Times have sure changed.

Not the best of years for the SEC. UT shows that, talented or not, this is not a top 20 team. Nor will it ever be with Holly at the helm.

Holly will just keep gobbling up some of the best recruits in the country, fail to develop them and fail to teach them a modern offense.

Evina Westbrook is a solid player for UT, but that is about it. The UT vs UT game should be interesting.

Free Throws 24-4. LOL. If it weren't for that it's hard for TENN to score. Charlie Cream just called it a solid comeback. They can spin it any way they like but that was a putrid job by TENN.

Rennia Davis is also playing well. The rest seem to be underperforming.

Westbrook carried the team at Oklahoma State with 29 points. Davis seems to dominate against these horrible teams that can't keep her off the boards. Much quieter when she has to face higher-quality athletes.

Nice comeback? If I spot my three-year-old niece a 20-meter head start in the 100-meter dash and I still beat her, is that a great accomplishment?
Well I thought Tennessee was done at the half, but whatever Holly said to her team at the intermission worked. Part of it was the wheels coming off for Stetson in the third quarter, but hey they came back, just like UConn had to against St. Johns.

Didn’t see 1st half, but, based upon the 2nd half, Stetson may be one of the worst Div I teams I’ve ever seen. Can’t pass, dribble, shoot...consistently pass up easy shot for a harder one. Totally petrified of even slight defensive pressure...amazingly bad team. I can’t imagine how they got up by 16 at the half.

Um

"You are bigger, stronger, faster, more athletic, and more experienced than them. If you play at 20% of your potential we win."

There is a BIG difference between St. Johns and Stetson. If they had been playing St. Johns and played the way they did against Stetson, Tennessee would have lost by 30.

"Play as if you weren't completely brain dead."

Darn, that game was putrid even by holly standards...itll be a long year for tenn in sec play..but hey, they could make a final four...in the wnit lol

The vols forum is in a bit of denial.

Tennessee's issues has never been the horses, they have the talent. They are not coached and motivated well enough more times than not. The offense is putrid.

Holly may be a great person, but she is not HC material. Assistant role is where she belongs. Summitt would be mortified with some of these performances under Holly.

Yes good points you make.... and as much as Pat's career was great.... part of her legacy was hand picking Holly for their future greatness.

Actually reading the game thread on the Vols forum there wasn't a single poster that wasn't embarrassed, while the overwhelming majority called for Holly's head. Holly started 5 Mickey D AA's and by the end of the year not a one will be considered for WCBB AA status. Again. I think that is her most egregious failure. As a coach Holly makes a great assistant and recruiter.

Only Lewis Carroll could appreciate Holly's predicament with the Hatters.

There may also be a tenuous link to Bartholomew Cubbins.

I'm no longer the slightest bit worried about UT in the SEC. I now see UK as probably the only team that can mount any kind of challenge to MSU. Last year may have caused people to sleep on UK, but Matthew Mitchell is serving notice that, warts be damned, he's still one of the better coaches in the country. They actually look like the only other SEC team with Sweet Sixteen potential right now, but I can see SC improving or UT making a run if they decide to play hard two games in a row.

I have no ill will towards Holly, as she seems like a quality person, but it's obvious she has serious coaching deficiencies. MSU still has no McD AA's (Andi wasn't, was she?), but the idea that Vic would ever put a team on the court that looked like UT in that 1st half is out of the question. MSU (and many others) would've won that game by 50 ten out of ten times. Pathetic performance.

ETA OK, maybe ten out of ten is a bit much, but still very worrying that it was even possible for UT to fall 20 pts behind this team ranked in the 300's.

St John's would be a 20 point favorite if they played Stetson.
