State of the Program

Gilbert is where basically every star point guard at UConn has heen early in their career. He is a total stud and will get there.

Don't want to hear another word about how Jalen has unfairly had the ball taken out of his hands. He's had a million chances to be the man and he has never come through. It's Gilbert's team and we will deal with the headaches because there should be light at the end of the tunnel with him.
The fact we could have Al for 3.5 more years is the most overlooked, really exciting part of the future

PS: The 3 guard lineup we play really exposes our lack of size. We get bottled up like children. Starting from next year we need to play big like the traditional Lineups we had during Calhoun.
Ah, you mean the ones with two point guards and a 6'7" PF. Oh, wait...

He’ll get a 6th year?

Why isn’t Polley expendable? He doesn’t seem like a Uconn player and the verdict is still up on Wilson who doesn’t do much besides jump well. The others I agree.

Because Polley and Wilson have height, length, and some ability that can be useful for the team. They’re worth investing in.

.-.
I was wondering that and iirc it’s not out of the question?

I dunno... I can’t remember someone getting a 6th year when it wasn’t the 5th they got hurt.

I was as disappointed with Wilson's performance as anyone here (the people I went to today's game with can confirm that), but this just isn't accurate.

Stairs you can’t tell a good player from a bad player to save your life just like you couldn’t tell a bad coach from a good one.

That was me having fun with Kwin the dunk champ. Don’t take every post too seriously.

I was right about Ollie. You were very wrong. I was right about Brimah and Vital, you were not.

I said many times that Sid sucks and Polley is better than him. You were among the many wrong again regarding Sid the Kid.

You were impressed by Sloppy Tarin Smith. I said it from the beginning he is a carbon copy of Antwoine Anderson, etc.

You are wrong about everything that has ever existed -- and you're a pathological liar to boot!

I trust in Hurley, but he needs to call better timeouts and make some second half adjustments like other teams do.

Already this crap? dude! This team stinks talent wise. This team would struggle as a mid major !

.-.
I’m not worried about this year for all of the reasons others have mentioned ad nauseam. Smashing Syracuse was just a bonus. Hell, I’m not even too concerned about next year as long as we see improvement. 20-21 is the key year imo.

God your posts are terrible.

There are hundreds upon hundreds - perhaps thousands - of highly successful college basketball players who looked like crap their first year. I think BA and Polley should be taking much more of Wilson's minutes than they are currently, but anyone who's closing the door on Sid completely just isn't a smart human being.
So the answer is “he hasn’t.”

I would be shocked if he plays 4 years. He's listed as a redshirt sophomore. My assumption is he plays 2 more years after this one and goes out after leading a very good team in 2020-21.

AG could become legit. But he doesnt understand time and situations and that's a big concern. Handle isn't what it should be.
Better j than Kemba at this point (if eligibility)

We need to play more Kwintin this year.
He can obviously jump out of the gym, but you have to remember that this is a guy who was recruited by P5 schools. And you also have to remember that it was academic issues that led to his bouncing around everywhere -- these were not issues related to his ability on the court. I'm seeing a KFree/Sticks hybrid with a pinch of Marcus White and a dash of Eric Hayward. The fact that KO could bring in someone like this at this point in the recruiting season really says it all, doesn't it? Of course we'll have to wait and see, but you just can't teach jumping ability like that. The guy's going to bang his head on the roof, and I'll be the first one with a broom to help sweep the chips from the roof off the floor. This guy is a gamer.

You should make it clear that you're quoting someone in that thread. P5 programs that might have taken a chance on an athletic project when he was 18-19 had probably seen enough to say "no thanks" when he was 23. I don't think he can dunk at all if he has to dribble the ball more than once.

I wasn't quoting anyone specifically in that thread.

Hurley needs better talent. 2020 & 2021 is where it starts
That’s it in a nutshell. Period. Hurley is doing what he can with this group. Changing the culture. He’s doing it. Recruiting better players. He is off to a good start. Performing magic and turning our front court into an elite level frontcourt? Does anyone really expect that? Welsh said it best during the game. The other announcer said the frontcourt needs to get better. Welsh said they are not going to. THEY ARE NOT THAT GOOD. Nice to hear an honest pronouncement from a commentator. We need to be a little more patient, some of us. As for arm chair nit picking over this or that decision by Hurley during a game, I pay no attention to that. He is a top notch coach. None of us are that ( as far as I know).

This has been my view since he was hired. I think Mike Anthony is on target. Adams is good not great and is surrounded by a bunch of mediocre players. This year is merely getting through the season without being embarrassed. An NIT bid would be gravy. The Hurley era starts for real next year.

I agree with everything that was said. Its just frustrating because its like we just fell off a cliff. We destroyed the cupcakes on the schedule which was something we could not do the last few years. Syracuse was a good win, we could have beaten Arizona, and we played FSU tough. Then, all of a sudden it seems like we hit a wall. I dont think we are as good as we showed vs Syracuse and Arizona, but I also dont think we are as bad as we have played the last 3 games. At least thats what im hoping, but from what we have seen from the second half of the Villanova game, things dont seem like they are about to trend upward any time soon.

AG is technically a freshman. Chill.

Kemba took 70 games to become the man.
Shabazz took over 100 to become the man.

Alterique has played 26.

No need to chill. Talking about right now. Where this team is up to this point. Would have said the same about Bazz or Kemba in the moment. I did not elaborate on where AG will be. He is talented.

Also, both Kemba and Bazz had someone to teach them along the way. AG has to be Kemba and/or Bazz right now.

This is year #1 of a pretty substantial rebuild. I think we're right on track as to where we should be. We'll have a winning record, we're on pace for a top 20 recruiting class. I'd say that's a pretty good start for a program that hasn't had a recruiting class in three years and was a flaming pile of crap last year.

My advice to fans throughout this would be to just remember what the priorities are every year and don't get greedy. Next year, I hope to see a step forward and continued recruiting. That's it. Nothing more. Not expecting them to beat this team, not lose to that team, go this far in the whatever tournament - none of it. Just keep moving the needle forward, is all.

This is a rebuild. Not a reload or a return. A rebuild. Can't skip the building part.
