Guess I wasn't so Dumb after all. :)

Besides beating Baylor, Stanford's other advantage to some voters would be they've played more games.

...or that they don't watch the games. Texas A&M is a Top 25 yet losing to 3 Top 10 opponents warranted being removed. Then replaced by crappier teams. The whole thing is a one big joke.

Nice to be right once in awhile. However, its not what I believe. I thought voters would reward Stanford for beating unbeatable Baylor and I suspect many didn't know how many minutes Sims played. I also believe Geno is happy his team of young stars aren't ranked #1 this early in the year.

Love it, actually: go ahead, poke the Big Dog with a stick..

If Stanford beat Baylor without Griner, would they be #1? Don't think so. Amazingly these voters are underestimating the offensive/defensive/intangible contribution of the first team all American Sims. So be it, it's actually better to not be ranked #1 so early in the year. Gives them something to prove.

I agree...this is a break for the freshman and Geno...and it should create quite an atmosphere for the Stanford game and everything leading up to it!

the voters are lazy, and never take time to look at schedules etc.

UNC was in the top 10 last year, and didn't make the NCAA tournament

I have a big smile and a warning to all " UCONN is for real" and we applaud Stamford for doing what no one else could and for the sportswriters who voted for them you made the correct choice for the moment. I don't mind being the little engine that could.

What a joke. I can't wait to watch UConn steamroll them this year.

The only advantage Stanford has had in the past is size, and that's no longer the case.

Understandable, most voters probably look at the results and don't dig much deeper.

I don't think Stanford is the best team in the country, but they have played four games, are 4-0, and one of those wins was over "unbeatable" Baylor (without Sims). Hard to argue this early in the season.

Not surprised. The poll voters rewarded the giant slayer. Now it remains to be seen how long it takes UConn to rise to #1. Perhaps after December, when we have faced the Terps  and the Cardinal. (Hope we don't have to wait until we too take the Bear to the trap in February.) We shall see!

Wb doesn't mean you aren't dumb<lMAO> just that you are insync with the dumb voters;) Just playing

Actually, they really are foolish I agree with you that there are advantagees for this team to not be ranked #1,
but at #2 barely behind ST, it will put the bullseye on ST and if we both remain undefeated and in these positions
<BIG IF> We will be playing them on Dec 29th at Palo Alto on ESPN Nationally I would hope Both undefeated

That sets up an exciting game with their home winning streak on the line
I wonder what the Coachs Poll Results will be I dont know that they will be the same
as AP Poll, but ok if they come out the same Funny belief on ESPN and others
believed UCONN would move up to #1

I had
#1 UCONN
#2 ST
#3 BA
#4 Duke

Huh?

They have eight players 6' 2" or taller. UConn has five. How many teams in the country have more than eight?

Stanford is not the best team in the nation. If they are number 1 and beat Baylor by 2 points, why does Baylor not move to 2? Maybe had we lost by 1 the number 2 ranking would have been Baylor's. LOL

I like the rankings. UCONN will beat Stanford on Dec 29 and assume the top ranking and will most likely hold that ranking going into the game with Baylor. All three teams will have a chance to knock off the number 1 team.

What does that have to do with anything? Last I checked, only five players are allowed on the court at once.

Stanford has had better post players the past few years, but with (this year's) Dolson, Stewart, and to a lesser extent Tuck and Stokes, I don't think that's the case any longer. Add in UConn's significant advantage in the backcourt, and I would be shocked if Stanford wins head-to-head.

It was to be expected that Stanford would come out this week as the new No.#1........They did beat the consensus #1 team in Baylor , and they have played more games than we have. The standings will remain like this until someone either beats Stanford , or until Stanford plays UConn.......Then we will take over the No.#1 ranking in the polls.

A word of warning: the links on this (and other SI.com pages I checked) are very duplicitious. If you hover the mouse over the "Ex-WNBA player Holdsclaw in jail on assault charge" link, you would think clicking on it will take you to "http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/more/11/16/ champique-holdsclaw-jail-assualt-charge.ap/index.html".

But it will not. It will take you to "http://traffic.outbrain.com/network...=100&imgType=0&refPub=1989&prs=true&scp=false". (Hover over this to see the complete link in the status bar at the bottom of the window.)

I don't know for sure what will happen when you click the link, but it's a no-brainer that it's going to be more than just show you the story you wanted to see, or they wouldn't be redirecting the link like that.

Ingenious HTML technique to make this work. Extremely dishonest on the part of SI.com to code it that way. There is a financial justification to do such things when links go to outside sites (recording the event to facilitate obtaining "click-through" revenues). I can't think of a good reason to do it on internal links.
