Stanford Now #1 Seed? Seriously?

A&M will DEFINITELY be a 1 or 2. I think a #1.
I THINK SCar will be a 1 seed. I don't see the committee awarding a one seed to two SEC teams. Thus, I think A&M will be a two seed. I think NC State will be a 1-seed.

I think UCLA may drop out of the top 8 and be a 3-seed. It's either them or Louisville that falls out of the two seed. Based on yesterdays games, I think Louisville will get the nod over UCLA.

"Think" is the keyword throughout.

It is the penalty UConn pays for being in a mediocre conference. The rest of the Big East probably couldn’t crack top six, maybe top eight, in PAC-12.
Based on eye test I would dispute that. Marquette, DePaul, Seton Hall and maybe Nova would probably be competitive. Who knows really how good or mediocre the PAC 10 really is?

I'm with Monte in this. There are so few teams that can match up with the handful of top teams that getting to play the best is a treat for players and fans alike. Let's play Stanford and SC and Baylor and NC State and Maryland and who ever else is a challage and see how good we are. Obviously we won't play all the best but the more the better. Talking about who is better is fine; putting it to the test infinitely better.

Ranking and seedings don't interest me all that much as a UConn fan. Most teams can take pride in breaking into the top 25 or 10, or getting a seeding that might result in one more tournament win. UConn is beyond that point. We pretty much expect we can beat anyone on a given day.

As far as ranking go, losing the occasional game that should have been won isn't much of an indicator of how good a team is. Upsets happen. Stanford wasn't suddenly a worse team because they lost to Colorado. Maybe, as we surmise about the UConn loss to Arkansas, it made them better in the long run. How a team is playing in February is much more informative that how they played in December.

We didn't get a chance to play some of the best teams in OOC games this year so let's give it a go in the NCAAs.
So your saying losing to a terrible team early doesnt matter as long as ur playing well in the end of the season

Newest AP poll, UConn is still #1. And big difference, 38 pts with #2 Stanford.
While #2 and #3 only 2 pts difference.

It matters. But so does going 4-1 against the committees top 10.
All items are part of the resume and must be considered and weighed.

The PAC-12 Tournament Championship was on the ESPN family of networks, the Big East is on the Fox Sports family of networks, Charlie Creme works for ESPN. That's all folks.
In previous seasons, not counting 2020, in the final weeks of the season, has Charlie changed "his" Number 1 seeds without the team losing???
Not surprised at all! As Centerstream says, Creme works for ESPN, which is not exactly a bastion of neutrality! They believe in “shaping” the news in order to get the outcome they want. They are already working on having South Carolina (their preferred team) as a number one seed over NC State! In the end though, it will make the coming UConn dominance that much sweeter. Let’s just hope that dominance starts this year rather than next. I’d just like to see the faces at ESPN if we can somehow win it this year! That would be priceless.

I agree. UCONN, SC, & Stanford are locked into a #1 seed. TEXAS A&M might drop to a 2. Then it's a matter of Baylor, NC State, or Maryland moving from a #2 to a #1 seed. Louisville is the other #2 seed.
I’m not sure why SC is given a #1 seed over Texas A&M and NC State when both those teams beat them and have better records?

Yes ESPN hates UConn. Lobo especially.

First criteria should be the record and Uconn is the only team in the nation with only 1 loss and it wasn't to an unranked team

Charlie Creme now claims that Stanford is the top seed for the tourney due to their defeat of UCLA. How's that? Did he not have a Fox channel with which to view UConn's dismantling of Villanova?

Something smells here....

We all appreciate your passion, and UCONN's win was overwhelming. However, the Big East ( women ) is not as tough as the Pac-12, and Villanova is not the equivalent of UCLA. This year, no one saw Stanford play unless you were on the PAC-12 TV network ( I was not ). But Stanford has had great recruiting classes for several seasons, and they are a legit number one selection. To my mind, it doesn't really matter who is the "number one" number one. Stanford, UCONN and South Carolina are no brainers. Is the 4th to be NC State? In my view, it is highly likely that UCONN v Stanford will be the Big Dance final. We'll know then.

I agree! But SC was a #1 seed in last week's bracketology & since then, they won the SEC tournament. So they are probably locked in as a #1 seed.

I have to disagree. Arizona, I believe, would have a hard time with Marquette or DePaul (the pre slump DePaul). Az is my hometown team and has made amazing progress under Aria Barnes, but let’s face it, their shooting is just awful, they rely way too much on a 5’6”
volume shooter, their assists rate is just sad, and they have a hard time rebounding. If they happen to have a hot shooting night, yes, they can be pretty formidable. That doesn’t happen too often, however.

I know Stanford's win last night was impressive, but keep in mind as a team this year they shoot the 3 at .369 and Kiana Williams shoots the three at .371. In the game last night Stanford shot .476 on 21 shots from 3 and Kiana shot .857 6-7 and a number of her shots were NBA+ in range. They had a great shooting night from three which changed the whole nature of the game. They started the game hitting 4 of 6 from three.

That was what happened to TA&M against Georgia - a team that shoots the 3 at .335 shot .571 against them and won. Next game out Georgia shot .364 against SC and lost by 5. If they had shot .571 on their 11 threes they would have made 2 more and won by 1.

FYI - Uconn also shot better than normal from three yesterday at .444 but they only took 9 so if they had shot their season average they would only have missed one more.

FYI#2 This is of course every good team's nightmare - hit a team on the night they cannot miss from three and get whopped. Arkansas hit .565 against us though of course we couldn't miss either at .522 both aberrational from season stats.

Any team that has 4 losses should not occupy a #1 Seed position, especially when 3 of those winning teams should be seeded above them.
So teams that play difficult schedules should be penalized and be discouraged from playing good out of conference opponents.

I don't think it's really going to matter much at all this year whether you're ranked #1 or #2 , with the S-curve method of pairing , if it's used. Eventually the 2 will have to meet for the NCAA Championship. Bragging rites about who is #1 coming in is one thing , winning The Trophy is something else. And that's what these Huskies really want, to win that Trophy.

Since then they also lost to Texas a&m.
True. But as soon as they lost, Charlie Creme predicted that SC would stay as a #1 by the committee as long as they won the SEC tournament. I also disagree with their about their logic, but Creme has his finger on the committtee pulse. He wound up being correct.

Guess being the only team with just 1 loss means nothing at all too
Yes, you're right, it means nothing, or almost nothing, just on its own.

Otherwise, Bucknell fans would be clamoring to know why they're not the overall #1 seed.
