St. John's Post Game Thread

I live in California. Die hard. But it’s a beautiful afternoon here. After 10 mins, with the start and the refs I knew we were cooked. Shut it off and had a nice day. On to the big tourney. Has no bearing on our potential from here out. Move on people.

Figured there would be some ridiculous comments coming. Time to reset and make sure NO BE teams are in our region. They'll be fine through the Sweet 16.
should be ok since only Nova and SJU will be playing

Alex has no business inbounding the ball. If I see him pass the ball to the ref and let the defense get set on the press one more time I will not have a television
So many times the potential receiver screened himself open from the defender and Alex was too afraid to pass, or just doesn't have the vision when the defense presses.

I mean, was this result really all that shocking? StJ is physical, has a chip on their shoulder, care about the BET way more than we do, etc, etc. So while I don't like the result I'm not too surprised, and guess what? This wasn't the NCAAs.

Deep breath. NEXT.
I am with you on this point, this game was much more personal for St. Johns after the Hartford blow out. It's essentially a St. Johns home game and it showed....you just move on, congratulate them..no one will care if you are still playing the 2nd weekend

Whenever Darling went out, it felt like we had a little more offense. But when he came in, he killed us. Our guards were so worried about getting their pockets picked that it messed up with the flow. He was just tougher than our guards. As a matter of fact, all of them were. Only Reed showed fight on our end. AK is so soft and plays no D.

Why do they let AK keep throwing in the inbound pass? Geez!

I really don't know why Silas was put back in that game. It's great that he wanted to, it's great that he has that drive. That game was out reach and it's the coaching staff's job to protect the players from themselves in those situations.

The goal, just pay big time failure transfers at other schools to shoot your wad in the regular season and do nothing in the NCAA tournament

Just like St Johns
Foh with that NCAA or bust mentality. Winning conference titles is a valid expectation to have. The fact that we came out with a grand total of 0 in the weakest BE of all time is embarrassing.

Reed is a monster.
Mullins is nowhere near ready to play in the NBA.
Pitino is a master. Best tactician in the game.
disagree thats part of the problem...nba blows overall so he'll get drafted bc he chucks the 3 and hits and is athletic, but agree not ready, these days it doesn't matter if you are "ready"

Too many shooters and not enough athletics to beat a team like St Johns in the Garden with the way the games are refereed in our conference. Just my opinion.
Too many shooters? 3-19 from three begs to differ.

You’re caught up in the hype. Mullins can’t hit a shot and shoots airballs every game

I agree. That's been the problem all season. Demary needed to be the alpha, but he hasn't been able to carry the load. Karaban just isn't an alpha or Reed.
Agreed. No guy on this team that I would have full confidence in to get us a bucket when we need it most. Reed is the closest to that, and I think our only hope is that he has as good of a tourney run as Sanogo did in 2023 for us to have a chance.

Yeah but the sets they run to get open stink. He has no one to throw too

I didn't make it to the end, what happened with Silas?

He took a shot to the head by Zuby when Zuby stuffed his layup attempt. That was a flagrant foul that for whatever reason wasn't called cuz he got all ball before the punch.

Then, Silas tweaked his ankle when he came back in several minutes later. Game was borderline out of hand then, not sure why he was back in at all.

What this team doesn’t do well:

Physicality

Poise

Hunger

Have a heart

Pace

Box out

Inbound passes

FTs

Self Belief

Show up in big games

Run

This may be a down and out overreaction, but this team needs to be gutted. I’m just utterly baffled at how horrible we have been. I’m over this euro offense bs. Get guys who can actually run, go downhill, have some balls, and fight to the death. I don’t need this team to become the Brian Cashman Yankees of the last 10-15 years.

On court leadership!
