Sooo… Who is are QB gonna be?

If everyone stays healthy, our QB room is in much better shape than last year.

My guess is Zion gets the node but if he performs like he did at times last year, he'll get yanked quick.

I am not saying he can't develop...but we haven't seen him develop yet...so I can't see how you can say he is #1. Hopefully he does get better...but right now I would say he is behind Roberson and Fagnano.
I agree. The evidence on the field especially down the stretch certainly should inform objectively minded people. It wasn’t just the bowl game. Army was a mess too. The kid did his best but he was heavily managed to not do damage because there was limited playmaking upside. When he tried to make plays bad things happened. He has a nice arm down field but that is about it. Certainly can’t read and throw with accuracy and isn’t a run threat. We need a guy who can read and make throws with accuracy.

Tough to be too critical about the army game since he was a true freshman in his first start replacing an injured Roberson.

For what it's worth, my guess is the order is:

Roberson
Fagnano
Turner

Like everyone else is, it's pretty much based on nothing. I went with Roberson for athleticism and then Fagnano for his experience in the system. I like Zion and he gave us a lot under difficult circumstances, but I think this is the red shirt year he should've had last year.

Army was the last reg season game and his 10th start?????

I think we should name Mike Nebrich the starter.
Yeah, you're right complete brain fart by me.

Tuner I am giving the benefit of doubt to and I think others should as well. He was a freshman thrown into a situation where not a whole lot of receivers creating space - not easy targets that’s for sure. Injuries at WR made it tough for him.

He had some bad throws.
He made mistakes.
He also showed he won’t beat team on the ground.

What did he show that should not be diminished?

GRIT This kid stuck in there and took whatever the game threw at him and kept his head up.

And we were one bad a call from making Liberty a winnable game.

Roberson I have never seen stay in a game more than a few plays.

TR certainly has not shown enough to be ”automatic” starter and neither had Turner or anyone else.

My hope is of an impartial evaluation of talent and let the best man win the position. The backup will get their day as well - it’s a long season.

Why are people acting like Turner cannot improve to be a starter ?? We forget he was recruited by a couple of SEC schools, on top of that, he was a true freshmen who was supposed to be a redshirt. Yea down the stretch it wasn’t all that good, but don’t forget that he is the only qb to have more wins than any qb we had in the past 5 years with tougher opponents as an independent on top of making it to a bowl game. Making errors was going to be granted as a true freshman with a depleted team plagued by injuries. ZT and Roberson battled it out till the week before Utah state I believe meaning that it was a close battle between the two.

Every game the opposing QB was better than ours. It is important Mora gets this right for ‘23. Very little news so far which is trying. I‘d say Roberson. Eye test way better than Zion the 2 mins I saw. Do not know about Joey F.
I trust our OC though.

It’s not going to be that close of a decision. As a true freshman Zion won 6 games without our top 3 receivers . One of the top RB in the country was hurt and missed most of the season. With some good receivers Zion is going to look much better and continue to win.

Few if any are saying he cannot improve, most have reservations as to improving enough to be effective as a FBS QB this year. Making reads, reacting to plays as they unfold and moving/running are all important qualities in a successful QB. ZT was bad to very bad in each of those categories. Those are not "physical" qualities(moving/running more so but only after making the right decision on what to do) that improve with getting bigger/stronger.
UConn had the lesser QB in every game it played in 2022 and still made a bowl. Can not count on that happening this year. Don't like the odds of ZT going from a bowl game disaster to anywhere near an average FBS QB in 9 months but hope he can.
If he or any of them for that matter struggle after being made #1, Mora has to give the next guy up a run.

Roberson is a better runner than either of the other two. He is not the better passer though,

I think it will be Turner when all is said and done

I'll take this one as I am always one to insist players can get better. Because Turner didn't get better with all the reps last year. Many here are questioning Charlton's ability. Last year, I saw the OC's playcalling spring open receivers left and right and Zion just couldn't get the ball there. I don't want another year of that. I want a QB that can make a throw.

Exactly. It isn’t a freshman issue. Freshman made bad decisions. The issue is you can see spurts of great play in quality freshman QBs and a general improvement by the end of season as the game slows down. None of that was really observable with ZT. He is a very slow processor and whatever physical talents he may possess don’t make a difference if he is behind the play.

Whomever can be the best bridge until the Texas Slinger joins next season

My concern is similar. He was a true freshman. I get that. But he played almost every offensive down starting in the 2nd quarter of Game 1 and seemed to take a step back by the end of the season. Or at least not a step forward. That concerns me.

Fagnano has the experience and is familiar with Charlton's offense. Turner has a whole year of playing time under his belt, but showed little improvement. Roberson had the nod last year but got injured. Honestly, I think it'll either be Roberson and Fagnano. Turner gets a redshirt.

I hope Zion Ted Shirts. He deserves it.

Fagnano has lots of game experience. Roberson not so much.

Let’s see who rises.

I am a complete agnostic on this question. But I will form an opinion very quickly at the NCST game. Three or four series at most. I will guess that Zion starts, however, because he has the most snaps at this speed and has played against them before. If he is ineffective, who comes in next is anyone's guess. And we are gonna see the entire playbook against a team like this I would think.

The one thing that still stands out about Zion Turner to me is that he's a winner...

Let's be honest folks... We've been straight trash for so long... and for a true frosh to come in due to injury and lead this club to a ball game (and clearly, he needed that redshirt year to acclimated. or, at least 6 games in behind the scenes.. didn't happen that way)... fact is we were winning with him under Center... speaks volumes if you ask me.

All in all, it speaks volumes that we have what I think is finally a half way decent QB room for once...

2023 should be fun...

There is an old saying in the NFL. You don't lose your job due to injury. Since Mora is an NFL guy, that could put Ta'quan at the top of the duty roster. But most of the chatter in the spring said that Fagnano was playing the best. Turner is the most experienced QB in the QB room, that should count for something. That leaves former three star Brayden Zermeno and true frosh Tyler McDonald to round out the field.

In short, nobody knows nothin', so this whole thread is as worthless as this post.

Tim Boyle is a good example of a freshman who regressed during his freshman season, he ended up doing very well for himself, although it took a while.

Agreed, overall I thought Charlton had a terrific season and proved he is a gifted offensive coordinator. Our running game produced gaping holes like we have never seen before, I know a lot of people credit the O-line coach for that, but much of the credit for our running game should rightfully go to Charlton. The scheme is terrific.
