So...Where Does UConn End Up On The AP Today? (poll)

?In what place do we land today

As I thought.

Because we struggled with Nova, Indiana jumped past us.
LSU won at home by 3 points against unranked Arkansas, and they jumped a spot. Two of Iowa's latest three wins (both against unranked teams; Iowa jumped four) were by fewer points than Connecticut's over Villanova, as were recent victories by Stanford (also vs. an unranked) and Utah.

Why should Connecticut be the only team hurt by close wins?

Can’t for the life of me figure out how Indiana jumps over UConn in AP poll. 2 common opponents, Tennessee and Butler. Indiana beat UT in Knoxville by 12 early in the year when UT was struggling mightily and beat Butler at home by 17. UConn soundly defeated UT in Knoxville and absolutely thrashed Butler not once, but twice. UConn’s losses were on the road against 2 top 10 teams minus Juhasz & Fudd, while Indiana’s loss was to unranked Michigan State. Not that it really matters but AP certainly is not enhancing they’re credibility.

Let's take a closer look at the AP rankings.

We lose to # 8 & 9 and in both games we are missing key players (starters).
We win against # 6, 15, 16, 19, 23, and 24. Six of the top 25 teams in the country.
A #5 AP ranking is enough to pull your hair out (if you have any left) !!

Has anyone else come close to playing 8 of the top 24 teams in the country-I don't think so plus doing it with injured players/starters and with only 5 healthy, competitive players available for probably half the season. Plus that doesn't include beating the 28th best team, TN, (not named Uonn) on their home court in front of 13000+ crazies!

Is there a site that list the ballots of all the AP voters to see who is completely clueless?

And down Nika for Maryland!

It’s comical at this point…We’ll lose to SC this weekend, but will not lose before the NCAA tournament. Then we’ll somehow end up in the same regional as SC

5 is where I had them in my boneyard poll so that tracks. Actually my top 5 is almost right on. I gave credit to Indiana for beating 2 top 10 teams.

As people have noted, #2-#5 is basically a tie. The one who stands out to me is LSU though, not Indiana. Yes, LSU is undefeated, but have beaten almost no one.

Indiana has wins over Maryland (8), Ohio St (10), UNC (11), Michigan (18), Illinois (26) and TN (28). Their one loss was on road to Michigan St without Grace Berger. They deserve a top 4 ranking.

I haven't paid that close attention to how the committee come by rankings for tournament seeding but I think it is NCAA's NET rankings that carry the weight. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

In the NET ranking UConn is ranked 2nd

But ESPN has us as the Team of the Week, which is nice recognition for how hard this team has worked.
Yeah but.......that's like distracting us with your right hand while you're picking our pocket with your left hand.

Big game tonight: Tennessee at #3 ranked LSU 7:00 ESPN2

I’m not sure Connecticut is “hurt” by close wins. I’m not a conspiracy theory guy, but it’s more likely that some voters have an anti-UConn bias.

Maybe the voters assume we'll lose on Sunday and don't want to move us up this week just to move us back down next week?

Let me see if I can understand this.... now granted I know most people do not care about the rankings right now but in March they do.... but... UCONN beat Tennessee in a hostile environment, Tennessee was unranked but they were close to a ranking blah blah blah.... which is what they kept saying during the game... and we beat Villanova a ranked team.... and we did not move at all. We stayed where we were... Yet, Villanova losing to UCONN was able to move up two spots??????? So by losing to UCONN they went up two spots? What the hell would they have done if Nova won the game? Would they be the #5 team?

This is not making sense to me.

Why does this poll matter in March?

We beat Tennessee in Tennessee in a very hostile environment, with the refs against us, and we do not move??? Indiana jumps ahead of us? Say what now?
And what makes matters worse, LSU with their cupcake preseason schedule jumps us. All of the wins against top 25 teams we have means nothing. I hope I wake up from this dream soon. Thank heavens those pollsters are not members of the tournament selection committee, or we might be looking at a 3rd or 4th seed. Now I know what Rodney Dangerfield felt like when
he said......"I don't get no respect."

The issue is that until we know that we are getting Azzi and/or Caroline back, we may be at capped at 4/5 vs 2 in the poll. It is understandable.

You are assuming the AP voters actually research their votes each week beyond looking at the W/L record and being aware of major star injuries. Everyone knows Paige is out for the year and they also know Fudd has been out a lot so obviously Uconn is a wounded duck and their record doesn't actually mean what it says - those injuries probably cost a couple of spots in the rankings for many of the AP crowd.

#5 is a fine spot to be in.

I actually like Indiana to make a deep run this spring in the Tournament

Who are those guys? Apologies to Butch and Sundance.

Is there a list of the people who vote and a weekly update on how they voted? Or is this an anonymous poll which makes the results even more specious? The numbers are so close that an errant vote could be disruptive to the rankings.

One of the polls used to provide this information (maybe USA Today Coaches’ Poll) but I haven’t seen it for a long time.

Forego, I asked the "who are these guys/gals?" in post # 63 in this thread and crickets so maybe that info isn't available.

Sorry I missed it. I going to go back a enter a like, which I would have done if I saw your post in the first place.

Lady Vols were whistled for one more foul than UConn (18-17) so it seems to me the refs were equal opportunity poor at officiating. Is there something specific that leads you to conclude otherwise?
