Oh Twitter, why won't you just go away?
I liked this post.

I mean, you know, I "liked it."

But this post is brilliant, and what really needs to happen is that the BY pioneer a system where you just can't "like" any ol' that gets posted that's got a whimsically cute observation in it.

Say, we each get 10 likes a month. That's it. And if I want to burn all 10 on Joob's post, I can. Because it's that good.

I came of age just before the video game age became super addictive. Thank G-d for that.
I was out of my 20s before "texting" became an acceptable method of having a conversation. Thank G-d for that.
I was into my late 30s before "social networking" took off. Thank G-d for that.
And I was into my 40s before the invasion happened. Super, duper thank G-d for that.

Burn it all and start over. Watching these wart hogs run around society with their gazes fixed upon their hand held soul-sucker devices 24/7 is torture.

This is so far from being true.

Aside from the Texas game, Alex played pretty well in Maui, averaged a double-double in the Big East tourney and was the best player in the NC game (Butler players literally themselves at the mere sight of him).

I don't feel bad at all for AO and think he's almost fully to blame for how this season turned out - how do you not develop a single post move in 3 years at a school like UConn? - but at least give credit where credit is due. Last year's team doesn't win the Maui, Big East or NCAAs without him.

I agree with you, with the exception of one minor point:

Unless you have contacts on the Butler equipment staff and know something we don't, I very sincerely doubt they "literally themselves at the mere sight of him" in last year's championship game.

Do what I do - have a ship's bell installed near your computer.

I ring it to let the rest of the house know that I've just unleashed another gem on the internet.

I don't understand what his dad is doing here. I think that UConn fans who actively follow the team understand that this was a tough year for Alex. Let's be honest, the news that Alex was transferring didn't shock anyone. I'm sure some would have harbored ill feelings towards him but I don't think majority of fans would have. By all accounts he is a great kid...I think it was Goodman that wrote an article earlier in the year about his struggles this year and Goodman went out of his way to make it clear that JC loves Alex.

I know I wouldn't want my father out there making comments about an already difficult situation and making it worse.

If Alex doesn't want his dads crap out there, he is free to pick up the phone and ring one if his best buddies, Jeff Goodman or Kevin Duffy, and make it known that he has nothing but respect for the school and the staff but this is a personal decision.

Totally agree with you on that. Obviously I don't know how Alex truly feels. I can speculate that his dad may not be doing this if he wasn't sure how his son felt about JC and UConn. I just think it is unfortunate. I think Alex is a good kid (having never met him let alone spent significant time with him I admit that my opinion is based completely off of articles and interviews) and until he makes a comment himself disproving that I see no reason to change it.

Alex may be really pissed about what happened this past year, but he may be staying quiet because he doesn't think its right to publicly state certain things. Not saying it is one way or the other, I just don't think its fair to judge Alex based off of his father's comments.

When are AO and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel going to sell their championship rings?

The other thing about AO Sr.'s Twitter account that stood out for me was his tweet at Roscoe about Roscoe's limited playing time early in the season. It's bad enough that he uses a public forum to bellyache about his own kid's situation, but getting in another kid's ear about his own relationship with Calhoun is beyond the pale.

I feel bad for Alex Jr. He had a great opportunity at UConn and things were all going the right way. Then his apparently overbearing and clueless father (a bad combination) smothered it. It's a shame that Alex Jr. won't be finishing his career a Husky, but I'm sure JC won't miss his pops.

The image in my head that captures this season is below, except it's AO Sr. sitting there.

Not directing this at any one person - just a general statement.

When you're stupid, try not to advertise just how stupid you are.

And when you're stupid and have yet managed to reproduce, double-down on keeping that stupid under wraps lest it limit the options available to your offspring any more than it has to.

I'm sure that tweet will cross the mind of any coach willing to consider Alex. Nice work, dad.

Unrelated note -

When the horde of former players arrive for Calhoun's next charity game, some of them mega-millionaires and all of them thrilled to come back for their coach, perhaps Mr. Oriakhi should wonder why they made it through the 'plantation' and his son didn't.

Then, look in a mirror 'til the light bulb goes off.

Spot on Fishy.......this is just a big WOW.......not even worth discussing........a kid let's his dad run his feelings for a program? Not tough enough to be in the National Flag Blue I guess.......

Key here is if he is pissed about things that happened this year the mirror is right in front of him. Noone else to blame when your actions on the court go completely backwards!!! Remember, this guy struggled mightily during typically most of the bE regular season during the NC run also hence the reason they were 9-9........Maui and the tourney for whatever reason are the only real bright spots on his resume....having said that I thank him for that and wish him luck wherever he lands!

Mr. AO needs to piss off and get a life, and AO needs to grow a sack. Have fun at some $hitbird school. Thanks for aiding us in a title, then being pouting for a year, then bouncing. A real UConn guy wouldn't do this no matter how tough it got. Good luck AO.

Mr. Oriakhi is the biggest mumu of all time.

true, but the source of your quote may prove the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree

he could of had a great legacy, been part of the family for all of his life

He's gone, that's gone, and he's leaving the man who gets lazy men and marginal talent like him to the NBA. Thus he's shooting himself in the foot. He's throwing away contacts, he's throwing away loyalty and he's burning bridges that will never be there for him again, and very unlikely to be built elsewhere.

I hope he doesn't quit on whatever overseas team he plays for, but his history suggests he will.

"all in", LOL

Poor Alex, this kid has been conditioned to listen to the wrong people since day 1.

Grab the damn ball, hold onto it, and put it in the hoop from 4 feet and do not look like you just got smacked in the face with a rhino dick when a foul is called on you.

Happy motoring to the Oriakhi's

this is hilarious hahahahaha +1

For what it is worth, DeMauro at the Courant says in today's chat that Oriaki's dad recanted this comment, somewhat, by stating that he was referring to "other coaches" and not Calhoun. Sounds like damage control to me. Dom says that he'll write or blog about the email exchange.

That is a great idea. For some reason I just don't get the respect and adoration I deserve at home. Just the other day I was walking around the house with a smile on my face laughing at a joke I came up with when my fiance asked me what was up. I told her not to worry her pretty little head and keep on washing the dishes since I can laugh for the both of us. She seemed annoyed at this somehow. I'll just never understand women.

I'm not sure that it generates respect or adoration - I just like them to know that while they're doing whatever they do, I am out winning on the internet.

Whether they appreciate the greatness that walks in their midst, they're not saying. It's probably a quiet admiration.

Ah, women...complex little bundles of joy.

This shouldn't be a surprise. AO and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel have both run from competition in the past when they were challenged. Remember they both started at The Winchendon School when they first began HS, but didn't start because it is a loaded program with great talent. When faced with having to earn a spot the next year, they both decided to run from the challenge and go to The Tilton School, which at that time was a weak school with no real competition for playing time. I am sure the Tilton School coach promised them the starting position and all the playing time. So this isn't the first time that they both have run from a coach who demands their players to earn their spot and run from true competition. They would much rather have a coach who will baby them, promise them court time, and not push them. In the end, they are the one's who will lose out.

Who paid their tuition while at UConn?

So much hate and so many haters.

Time to stop this nonsence. This board is read by prospects and their parents.

Is this what we want them see?

Peace,

John Fryer
