Like i said in the other thread, this shouldnt come as a major shock. Remember there was some speculation he might transfer during the Atlantis tournament when things got out of hand with the twitter stuff. Calhoun still may not know what twitter is but i guarantee you ALL of that was brought to his attention. Its possible he never forgave him for that.

AO's dad also bashed Texas Tech coach Billy Gillespie on twitter as well...AO should probably find himself a better spokesman

So can we finally agree all the people calling out Oriakhi in the past couple of days have been 1000% absolutely right.

His father is the one talking, not Alex. He may or may not agree with his father, in whole or part. So, no, I don't agree and don't think the bashing is "right."

It's unfortunate to see situations like this where the kid is being harmed by either a jackwagon AAU coach or a jackwagon parent. Sounds like a typical pampered baby and typical delusional parent.

No accountability, it's always someone else's fault. Let's point the finger elsewhere. Kids that are surrounded by that just wind up with the worst world view. But if JC couldn't get through to him then no one on that planet can. I think this boiled down to a similar fate as Jamal Coombs-McDaniel - neither was talented enough to be a great Big East player, let alone a pro. The parent thinks the kid is underachieving because of the coach or the program when the truth is the kid is just nowhere near as good as they think he is.

AO seems like a good guy, hopefully he goes on to have a successful life. He won't sniff the NBA or a decent overseas league but hopefully he can find a good career outside of basketball.

There are tweets that say how they wish coach good health and a fast recovery and lauding how the team is playing when coach comes back. Then he called out the guards as being selfish, which only hurts team chemistry and makes any coach think his son might be a problem if he tries to transfer there, then he throws out the slave master line which cements it. It's very disjointed and obviously built on frustration and emotion. The guy needs to step away from twitter, there is nothing good that can come of making some of those posts.

.-.
This shouldn't be a surprise. AO and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel have both run from competition in the past when they were challenged. Remember they both started at The Winchendon School when they first began HS, but didn't start because it is a loaded program with great talent. When faced with having to earn a spot the next year, they both decided to run from the challenge and go to The Tilton School, which at that time was a weak school with no real competition for playing time. I am sure the Tilton School coach promised them the starting position and all the playing time. So this isn't the first time that they both have run from a coach who demands their players to earn their spot and run from true competition. They would much rather have a coach who will baby them, promise them court time, and not push them. In the end, they are the one's who will lose out.

Yes. This exactly. AO is setting a bad precedent for the rest of his life.

if hes willing to put what he did out for the public to see, just imagine what the convo is at the dinner table. clearly that side of ao's family wasn't happy.

Jeesh, so I guess we know who the cancer on the team was this year.........

I hope Alex is gonna enjoy his time off next year, because Uconn will be postseason eligible.

.-.
Probably would be good for AO since he only had big games vs mid and low-majors.
Texas. I know it's an exception and not the norm, but still, he showed he was capable of doing it. Just no consistency at all.

Sometimes there comes a certain point where you just gotta say fuck it. And it's that time for me, so, it.

edit:btw love the auto correct on fuck; pure genius

I'll try to remember Alex fondly, he seemed like a nice kid and he played well in the tournament last year. I will try to forget that he was a very weak captain this year, his flare ups on twitter earlier in the year, his piss poor body language and his coming into this year out of shape and not improved. I feel badly for him that he seems to be listening to his father who is clearly a stupid assh*le. Alex will regret this decision down the road and he will wind up resenting his dumber than dirt father.

Dont worry- wherever he goes, WHEN they dont make the NCAAs, it won't be his fault.

Just ask him.

I've given this kid the benefit of the doubt all year and defended him as well.

At some point the kid and his father need to understand that they've got to step up and fight through the hard times. Because you've been on the squad for two years, it didn't guarantee you some right to minutes in year three. You've got to earn that time on the floor.

Goodness, his performance this year was always inconsistent and mostly poor. The worst part of it for me was that is was inconsistent, if you're going to suck, do it consistently so you can sit your ass on the bench all the time so we don't have to worry about you treating the basketball like it's a thorn covered orb during the game.

Mr. O if you're steering the ship (if so your the basketball equivalent of Joe Hazelwood) give your son this advice so he be of the utmost benefit to his new school - Grab the damn ball, hold onto it, and put it in the hoop from 4 feet and do not look like you just got smacked in the face with a rhino dick when a foul is called on you.

Happy motoring to the Oriakhi's

Sometimes there comes a certain point where you just gotta say Fecundity it. And it's that time for me, so, it.

Mine just says fecundity. No auto correct :/

Now I'm curious.

This is so far from being true.

Aside from the Texas game, Alex played pretty well in Maui, averaged a double-double in the Big East tourney and was the best player in the NC game (Butler players literally themselves at the mere sight of him).

I don't feel bad at all for AO and think he's almost fully to blame for how this season turned out - how do you not develop a single post move in 3 years at a school like UConn? - but at least give credit where credit is due. Last year's team doesn't win the Maui, Big East or NCAAs without him.

Oh Twitter, why won't you just go away?
I liked this post.

I mean, you know, I "liked it."

But this post is brilliant, and what really needs to happen is that the BY pioneer a system where you just can't "like" any ol' that gets posted that's got a whimsically cute observation in it.

Say, we each get 10 likes a month. That's it. And if I want to burn all 10 on Joob's post, I can. Because it's that good.

I came of age just before the video game age became super addictive. Thank G-d for that.
I was out of my 20s before "texting" became an acceptable method of having a conversation. Thank G-d for that.
I was into my late 30s before "social networking" took off. Thank G-d for that.
And I was into my 40s before the invasion happened. Super, duper thank G-d for that.

Burn it all and start over. Watching these wart hogs run around society with their gazes fixed upon their hand held soul-sucker devices 24/7 is torture.

Yea what you said makes sense and all. But, I'd rather have the ability to like my own posts.

I agree with you, with the exception of one minor point:

Unless you have contacts on the Butler equipment staff and know something we don't, I very sincerely doubt they "literally themselves at the mere sight of him" in last year's championship game.

Do what I do - have a ship's bell installed near your computer.

I ring it to let the rest of the house know that I've just unleashed another gem on the internet.

(If I'm on my laptop, I use an air horn.)

I don't understand what his dad is doing here. I think that UConn fans who actively follow the team understand that this was a tough year for Alex. Let's be honest, the news that Alex was transferring didn't shock anyone. I'm sure some would have harbored ill feelings towards him but I don't think majority of fans would have. By all accounts he is a great kid...I think it was Goodman that wrote an article earlier in the year about his struggles this year and Goodman went out of his way to make it clear that JC loves Alex.

I know I wouldn't want my father out there making comments about an already difficult situation and making it worse.

If Alex doesn't want his dads crap out there, he is free to pick up the phone and ring one if his best buddies, Jeff Goodman or Kevin Duffy, and make it known that he has nothing but respect for the school and the staff but this is a personal decision.

Totally agree with you on that. Obviously I don't know how Alex truly feels. I can speculate that his dad may not be doing this if he wasn't sure how his son felt about JC and UConn. I just think it is unfortunate. I think Alex is a good kid (having never met him let alone spent significant time with him I admit that my opinion is based completely off of articles and interviews) and until he makes a comment himself disproving that I see no reason to change it.

Alex may be really pissed about what happened this past year, but he may be staying quiet because he doesn't think its right to publicly state certain things. Not saying it is one way or the other, I just don't think its fair to judge Alex based off of his father's comments.

When are AO and Jamal Coombs-McDaniel going to sell their championship rings?

The other thing about AO Sr.'s Twitter account that stood out for me was his tweet at Roscoe about Roscoe's limited playing time early in the season. It's bad enough that he uses a public forum to bellyache about his own kid's situation, but getting in another kid's ear about his own relationship with Calhoun is beyond the pale.

I feel bad for Alex Jr. He had a great opportunity at UConn and things were all going the right way. Then his apparently overbearing and clueless father (a bad combination) smothered it. It's a shame that Alex Jr. won't be finishing his career a Husky, but I'm sure JC won't miss his pops.

The image in my head that captures this season is below, except it's AO Sr. sitting there.
