Silas Demary Jr Commits to UConn

Everything Mullins does is quick. His movements/passing are lightning quick, his release is lightning quick, his processing is quick.

Quick processing and quick ball movement was sorely lacking this past season. Ball was way too sticky in way too many players hands and it always gave the defense time to reset.

We'll see. Stew needs a big breakout season. Needs to be a dependable scorer- particularly in the second half of games. He needs to be able to finish emphatically at basket unlike Karaban and LM. Mullins needs to be a Spencer, Hawkins, Joey Cal with his outside shot. Can't afford to be an Karaban, Mahaney or an LM throwing up bricks far too often.
Stewart also needs to mix it up with the dribble which he showed in glimpses. He has to be more assertive on offense or he will be sitting and a kid like Mullins will be starting if his shot is hot. I hope Stewart pulls it all together and has the confidence to be that go to guy on offense. I think it is all between the ears with him and he wanted to defer offense to upper classmen an McNeeley last year when in. We can't afford for him to do that his Jr. year.

I'm sure Hurley has explained what he needs to improve on for next season. Getting a better handle/dribble penetrate ect. He doesn't need to be that go guy because he will have Ball and Demary, however, he can be one of the three options at this point with our currant roster.

I just meant one of the 3 guys we can expect to score when we need a bucket. He definitely needs to be mor assertive on offense or he will sit.

I went to the McDonald's AA game and Braylon Mullins is a great decoy to open a passing lane for a guard like Demary or Solo. Braylon has smart BBIQ (picked off 3-4 passes) and will draw attention as he spots up or crosses the lane to the other side.

It certainly feels and looks like we are building a championship roster. That tape was shared on Mullins and Demary have me really excited. Mullins seems to be much more athletic than he was being given credit for by some earlier. When I saw his tape his release and his leaping ability stood out to me.

So if he can really guard we already know Demary can guard I think we can start all three. There might be a bit of a mismatch at the SF but then they have to guard us as well.

There are a few 6’10” PF that are big body and can shoot and rebound which would be helpful when Reibe is playing the 5.

Can’t wait for the next news to drop. Players have until 5/28 to decide to stay in the draft or stay in college so it is going to be an interesting two months.

Stewart only starts if he takes a leap defensively, because I’d bet heavily that Mullins is a better offensive player. If you think you know for sure who’s starting, I’d disagree, because I don’t think Hurley currently knows.

Demary/Ball/Mullins/Karaban lineup goes 6’5/6’3/6’5/6’7

Demary/Ball/Stewart/Karaban lineup goes
6’5/6’3/6’7/6’7

I’ll admit I wanted to get back to a taller lineup this off season because of the floor it raises on defense. Demary at point makes each lineup work because Solo being the smallest on the court in either lineup is tremendous size. The only question for me is if Mullins will actually hold up to the physicality of high major teams, because he’s skinny right now. If not, this is where Stewart’s size and experience might give him the edge, especially since his defense should be better than a freshman’s anyways.

Mullins is certainly no more skinny than Bouk, Lamb, Hawkins, Rip and he's that type of athlete. I wouldn't worry about him being overwhelmed physically. Darius Adams is a different story in my view.

Steward needs to make a big improvement offensively. The good news is we have seen brief glimpses of his ability to be that guy, even as a freshman. We just need consistency and need to see that he won't disappear in the final 10 minutes of a close game.

A few things since I caused this thread drift.

1. Demary/Ball/Mullins is very close to the the blueprint of Newton/Castle/Spencer and Newton/Jackson/Hawkins with the biggest difference being Ball's height and defensive ability compared to Jackson and Castle, but he makes up for that with a much higher 3 point shooting percentage than both.

2. Mullins is a Top 15 5-Star good chance he will start Day 1 the same way Castle and McNeeley did.

3. If any of these guys want bigger minutes this year work on your defense and be a stopper like Jackson or Castle and they will get all the minutes they want.

It's really good - crazy - thinking about Alex coming back to be a 4 year starter. A big IF. He has seen and played so much college basketball and I could even see him sliding to 5 when Reed rests, especially when we want to go small(er), press and maybe even 5 out. Reibe is a true 5 and different animal.

He would give us a ton of flexibility, quiet leadership and experience. I'd bet my lunch money he'd have an all conference year as he'd have a chip on the shoulder mentality.

And he wouldn't be the 1st or 2nd focus of the defense which he excelled at the prior two years, because he is great at relocating and slipping when the defense is focused elsewhere. Think his dunk in the 30-0 run vs Illinois, he just slipped back door while all eyes where elsewhere. He didn't have many opportunities to do that this year.

I never said he wouldn't have an impact. I just said he wouldn't start if we get a real god shooter at the 4 and can keep Stewart at the 3. Mullins ideal position would be the 2 and I'm sure he will play some 3 but sticking with Stewart at the 3 depending on who we get to replace Karaban if he leaves.
If Mullins starts, we’ll have a 1-3 of

6-5 Silas
6’3 Solo (huge wingspan)
6’5 mullins

I don’t think where they play on offense really matters. I could personally see Silas on defense being very castle esque on defense where he just guards the best perimeter player 1-3.

If Mullins starts at 3, doesn’t mean he’ll be guarding the 3 every time

He played team ball while everyone else was showboating. Not a recipe for big numbers, just winning...
You even see it in NBA all-star games. The other big name stars are trying to show off their crazy skills (one on one) and Jokic is always moving the ball and gets just around 5 points in the games.

I’m not criticizing the sentiment that whatever player needs to get stronger because it’s usually true, especially for freshmen…but that doesn’t always mean packing on weight. The nba is filled with skinny guys.
