Silas Demary Jr Commits to UConn

Playing Steward at the 4 and Ross at the 3 would give us the upgrade in athleticism we were missing this year. That puts Silas at the 1, Solo at the 2 and Red at the 5.

Still would like to add a 6-10 forward at the 4/5 and an athletic PG with some defensive skills.

Mullins isn't as good of a player that McNeeley who I acknowledge didn't have a consistent year. I don't hink Mullins going to start over Stewart at the 3 in the Big East. His is so puny and will get manhandled plus as Stewart showed at the end of the year he can keep quick 3's in front of him. I see Mullins as 2 guard in the Hawkins mold. Not saying he won't play some 3 against smaller team or when his shot is falling down but I'm not as high on him as others on this board. He clearly has the advantage over the other 3 Freshmen in contributing right away due to his shooting though. I'm still interested how Furphy is going to look and where he will play. He could be a wildcard for next year depending how ready he really is.
Mullins is by far away much better offensively than Stewart. We’ll see about his defense. He’s starting

I think Mullins would start ahead of Ross in that lineup. What does Ross really bring to us in a starting line-up? I see him as an energy guy off the bench. I rather we pick up 4 who can hit 3's at a good clip if Karaban doesn't come back.

Ross is a bench player until he shows otherwise. With ALL the hype he got from Dan Hurley before the season - it didn't materialize once UConn started playing. Need for him to become AJax 2.0 with a breakout, wow kind of season. We'll see.

Offensively Mullins hasn't proven anything yet and he looked a little overmatched in the McDonald's all star game but not as bad as our other freshmen. He does look like he will be the better shooter but Stewart did hit 36.5% from 3 this year. Stewart didn't come back to not start.

I'm not saying he won't get minutes and maybe even some in a 3 guard line-up. I'm just saying Stewart will start the year at SF and depending who is at PF will see most of his minutes there. If Amarrii Monroe is playing PF we might see Stewart play a lot of minutes at PF or if Karaban comes back I don't think he will see more than 5-10 minutes there. It also depends who else we bring in.
Silas is going to give us a lot of versatility in how we can play, it's why getting such a big strong point guard was so important. It will give us the ability to play smaller. I agree Jaylin will start. Our best players are going to play, whether it's starting or 6th man Mullins is going to get at least 25 minutes per game. He's elite.

I'm not sold on Mullins yet as being elite as a freshmen. I think he will have a year similar to Hawkins were he will need to adjust to the speed and strength of the college game. He will get minutes for sure and I think he is the only Freshman that will have a real impact outside of maybe Furphy who is an unknown. Mullins isn't as good as McNeeley coming in for sure.

We'll see. Stew needs a big breakout season. Needs to be a dependable scorer- particularly in the second half of games. He needs to be able to finish emphatically at basket unlike Karaban and LM. Mullins needs to be a Spencer, Hawkins, Joey Cal with his outside shot. Can't afford to be an Karaban, Mahaney or an LM throwing up bricks far too often.

Agree. Heck, LM wasn't as good as the LM who some believe is a lottery pick or at least a sure first round pick. Need reliable outside shooting, something that vanished from AK's game and LM second have of the season.

We really didn't have a second unit this year. We had subs.

I think Hurley prefers to start upper classmen unless a freshman is clearly the far better player. I wouldn't count out Mullins starting by the end of the season but my gut says he starts the season with Ross in the top five.

Ross? That is a weird take. The same player who didn't do much as a Sophmore? I think we get another transfer in at the 3 or 4 depending on where Hurley see Stewart starting and Ross can at best be the 7th man as I think Mullins will be the first off the bench due to his shooting.

lol McNeeley is a lottery pick based on most of the mocks and 100% a first round pick.

Reed

Yeah, we disagree on pretty much all of this which is fine. Mullins is a better prospect than Hawkins. #15 ranked recruit in one of the most stacked classes ever, Hawkins was ranked #55.

McNeeley and Mullins shouldn't really be compared, very different players who will likely be asked to do very different things. McNeeley is a lot bigger than Mullins, Mullins is a lot quicker than McNeeley. I expect Braylon to score a little less than Liam on significantly better shooting #'s from three and two. I don't expect Braylon to rebound as well as Liam and I expect him to get to the line less. I expect Braylon to be a better defender than Liam who was a liability on that end late in the season.

I think Reibe will contribute a lot/have a real impact. We'll have a two headed monster at center again but I don't expect it to be the even minutes split it was this season.

I never said he wouldn't have an impact. I just said he wouldn't start if we get a real god shooter at the 4 and can keep Stewart at the 3. Mullins ideal position would be the 2 and I'm sure he will play some 3 but sticking with Stewart at the 3 depending on who we get to replace Karaban if he leaves.

Again I never said he wouldn't have an impact. I still think he compares to Hawkins game more than any recent player and that isn't a bad thing. Remember Hawkins had issues with concussions and thus stunted his Freshmen year. He broke out as a Sophmore but wasn't unexpected after some great early season games like Auburn his Freshmen year. I just think Stewart is our starting SF with Mullins as our 6th man off the bench for instant offense. Of course that is all dependent on on Karaban staying or us getting a PF who shoot from the outside at a decent rate in the transfer portal. If not I can see Mullins at the 3 and Stew at the 4 but no universe do I see us starting Ross at the 3 as one poster noted.

Who are these guys Steward and Red? They sound awesome.

We have 2 national titles because we had a second unit. I think Hurley is going to try for that again but remember that it’s harder to do with players jumping to not be on a second unit.
