Isn’t Mullins is a 2? I think he’ll be first off then bench to replace Ball. He could be a 3 (wing) when we go small. Stewart would start at the 3/4. I think we’ll see a couple more transfer guards and bigs. Until then it’s all tbd.

1 Demary
2 Ball
3 Stewart
4 Transfer?? Karaban tbd or Ross
5 Reed

No way Mullins is starting over Stewart especially a 6'5" String bean. Stewart came back to start and Mullins isn't one and done like McNeeley. He needs year with our strength coaches first.

Shouts out to KImani Young. It really seemed he made a greet impression outside of Hurley on him choosing UConn.

If he shows that sort of promise, he’ll go. The nba has strength coaches too, without polisci midterms getting in the way.

If Mullins and Stewart are our two options at the 3, a lot may depend on matchups. A three guard lineup like Florida might be harder on Stewart whereas a strong bullyball wing like Domask of Illinois might be a better matchup. I kinda see Stewart as a 4 with Reed and a 3 with Reibe and a PF like Monroe.

Mullins isn't as good of a player that McNeeley who I acknowledge didn't have a consistent year. I don't hink Mullins going to start over Stewart at the 3 in the Big East. His is so puny and will get manhandled plus as Stewart showed at the end of the year he can keep quick 3's in front of him. I see Mullins as 2 guard in the Hawkins mold. Not saying he won't play some 3 against smaller team or when his shot is falling down but I'm not as high on him as others on this board. He clearly has the advantage over the other 3 Freshmen in contributing right away due to his shooting though. I'm still interested how Furphy is going to look and where he will play. He could be a wildcard for next year depending how ready he really is.

Big time pick up. This dude was only a sophomore and is built like a freight train for a guard. This guys best basketball is ahead of him and im as pumped as ive ever been over a portal pick up. Solo/SDjr will be among the best backcourts in the country. For what Hurley wants to do this guy could definitely run the point.

Hard to imagine a better fit, honestly. Enough says to play 3 guards comfortably, well-rounded and switchable. Comes from the SEC and put up grown man #s as a sophomore.

Yeah his assist numbers aren't super high level, but he'd be in the league if he was. IMO about as good a pickup as you can imagine at the guard spot in the portal.
100% This guy is going to be big time.

He will need a little weight room work like a lot of people, But I don’t think he is all that puny. He’d project as an NBA two - so guys like Hawkins, Bouknight, Reed Sheppard, Tyler Herro, etc. have the same build. SGA is a little bigger, but not much.

In college, the 2 and the 3 are close to the same thing in most systems offensively - we could throw back to the days of Rashad and Ben on the wings and tons of spacing. Defensively, maybe you run into a 6-7 bully ball type he’d struggle with, but we have Demary now … and Solo has good upper body strength and could take that type of player, probably easier than a shifty guy who tests his lateral quickness.

Smallest of sample sizes, but Dybsantza bully-balled Mullins and scored (one play after Mullins picked his pocket and scored on him). But I kinda thought Mullins played it pretty well. Took a shoulder to the chest and stood him up and didn’t get knocked backwards. But then he didn’t contest the 8-foot jumper. Sorta allstar game defense. But it wasn’t like he was manhandled or embarrased. And then a couple plays later Peterson tried to attack him on the perimeter and he locked him up completely - but that was more of a foot speed thing than a strength thing.

Towards the end of this reel. I misremembered a little. He was trying to contest but it was a spin move that got him. But watch him absorb the contact a couple times first.

I still see Mullins as 6h man on the team ideally and not starting at SF. I wouldn't want Ball covering SF as he had enough issues with SGs. He should bee better with his built but he doesn't play as physical as he looks. Again Mullins like McNeeley is coming in with a clear plus talent in shooting but unlike McNeeley doesn't have the other skills. If Mullins shoots well we will find time for him at the SG/SF but prefer to see Stewart start there at beginning of the year.

I think all of these freshman would benefit from not starting. Much better for all of them to come off the bench, play 10-15 minutes at the start. They can be eased into major college basketball and not forced to play huge minutes early. Mullins looks like a perfect fit in this offense, as he seems to move exceptionally well off the ball and has an unbelievably quick release. I can see him playing nearly 20 minutes a night as the season goes on if he develops as we all think he will. Adams needs a lot more strength, but 10-12 minutes a night should fit him nicely. He just needs to back up at PG, defend, and play hard when he is in there. Riebe is another 10-15 minute a night guy early. He needs to get his conditioning up, but he brings an element of offensive basketball from the center position that we haven't had in awhile. He should be able to knock down that foul line jumper (with an occasional 3) and play face up to the basket forcing big men to come out and play him on the perimeter. Not comparing him at all to Clingan, but sort of the Clingan model year one while Sanogo was here--come in and give your all for like 15 minutes. Furphy is the wildcard, but again, if you have a PF here, he is another guy who can just come in for 10-12 minutes. Don't ask a lot out of him or any of these freshman early and see where it goes.

Mullins is tough for his skinny 6'4" frame but he'd be better at the 2. We just got size at the 1 so why neutralize that by going small at the 3. Size on the perimeter brought us 2 nattys and could bring Duke another this year. We obviously won with small guards before but those were player of the year type players.

He looks like a beast in waiting. No offense, but like the total opposite of Mahaney. Big, athletic, and physical...all things we need, especially at the guard spot.

"He is so puny" UConn has done incredibly well with puny. Bouknight, Hawkins, Rip, Lamb.

Mullins is clearly a shooting guard but I imagine we'll run three guards for significant portions of games.

Stew starts. Full stop. Reed, Stew, Solo, Silas and Alex but if no Alex then it will between Ross and Mullins. I would rather see Mullins but if Ross stays then Hurley has loyalty to at least start the season.
If we get a forward that is Alex’s replacement then it remains to be seen and that could trigger the loss of someone into the portal.

I'm not saying he won't get minutes and maybe even some in a 3 guard line-up. I'm just saying Stewart will start the year at SF and depending who is at PF will see most of his minutes there. If Amarrii Monroe is playing PF we might see Stewart play a lot of minutes at PF or if Karaban comes back I don't think he will see more than 5-10 minutes there. It also depends who else we bring in.

a few takeaways:
1. It's a perfect fit. Kamani again sealed the deal.
2. All our core players: Reed, Stewart, Ross, and Ball come back and are there with Silas.
3. Silas has all the tools and more importantly knows exactly what he needs and he wants to do at this point.

Hurley and Staff are at it again and get ready for next year.
