I got in late and someone in chat said Tarris Reed Jr was not playing well and therefore on the bench. He's our best rebounder, 4th best scorer. To me it almost looks like we wanted to handicap ourselves to play at SHU's level, to make it fair or some sheet.

Reed averages 20 minutes 9.3 points 7 rebounds.
Reed today 10 minutes 3 points 4 rebounds. OT game.

At a minimum he's a guy to throw it to or to throw in on inbounds plays! Ugh.

UConn had 31 points with 10:14 left in regulation when AK hit a 3 to make it 36-34 SHU. 31 freaking points after almost 30 minutes of basketball. Against SHU. That is so egregious they need to investigate everyone.

He will NEVER do that. He’s never taken accountability for any loss, just all the credit for our success. I REALLY wish he took the Lakers job. He’s a punk and an embarrassment to the university with his childish antics.

It’s pretty damn easy to coach a bunch of future NBA players. This year was a year where we REALLY needed some serious coaching and he has failed MISERABLY.

What do you think JC would have said after a game like that today????

He absolutely has taken accountability after losses. Maybe he doesn't do it enough for some people, but he certainly has.

Jim Calhoun is a legend and a mount rushmore coach, but lets not pretend Calhoun always blamed only himself postgame after bad losses without firing off shots at others, whether it be players not executing or officials. And let's be clear there are a lot of folks who thought Calhoun was a detestable POS as well.

Calhoun has also had clunker seasons, sort of like this one. Seasons where he was preseason 10-20 and ended up barely over .500.

Is Hurley perfect? no. Is he stubborn? Hell yeah. And winning two in a row including #2 by larger domination than any team in the history of the sport will only fuel that stubborness.

But he has also shown a willingness after the end of rough seasons to adjust - and I fully expect he and his staff will be humbled by what happened this year and will hit the offseason completely energized.

In summary, it was one of the worst, most bizarre finishes to games in UConn history. And there were a lot of owners of it. But Dan Hurley and his staff won back to back national championships. Show the man at least a little bit of freaking respect for god sakes.

I’ll stand on the Stewart island alone. And I will be vindicated :)
You’d have to think he beats out Solo, Mullins, or AK for a starting role, otherwise he’s back in a reduced role next year by default. Who’s he beating out?

Its so disappointing watching this board turn on the players and be so ready to replace them instead of blaming the staff for lack of development.

This board constantly pines for a Newton and Spencer, two players that were ready made when they got here. Will we only look for players who come ready to play day 1? Will our new reality be to not expect to have guys develop and learn new skills throughout their time here?

Ive always said Hurley recruits at a level and finds talent better than anyone in our history. Unfortunately it does not seem like he knows how to get the most out of these guys once they get here like a Calhoun did. Wasting talent.

This is a wild take, man. Explain Jordan Hawkins, Andre Jackson Jr, or Adams Sanogo. Explain Isaiah Whaley. Or Donovan Clingan.

I can't believe I'm saying this less than a year after going B2B but AD Dave really needs to have a talk with Hurley. This is unacceptable performance after going B2B and a horrific way to kill interest with the fans. This very game feels like a coaching failure on his end against what might be the worst team in high major college basketball. We might not even make the NCAAT

He also needs to tell Hurley to stop with the sideline antics and to shut his mouth. He has embarrassed us constantly throughout the season with a recent instance being the events surrounding this very game, where he said Seton Hall didn't have the NIL to succeed before losing to them

We have since become the de facto enemy of college basketball because every neutral hates Hurley. It feels like the slump is karma for his behavior

We also need to get out of the Big East. The reffing has been so vehemently against UConn's favor that it should be investigated. It's also crazy to me when get no respect by fans of other Big East schools, like who do you think was responsible for that nice Fox extension? They'd probably be happier anyways if we bounced

Game was stolen by the refs.
Hurley was a coaching disaster.
Team has zero poise.
Welcome to the bubble
I am amazed that the ref's are not a bigger topic. I am not one to blame ref's. However the number of clear fouls on us with not a call was shocking. Sitting on the recliner viewing clear fouls was criminal. The obvious carry which happened in front of the UConn bench? Am I the only one that thinks Solo got mauled on the last play? Sure we can talk about the players. Lets throw the ref's in the conversation. Sure bang bang plays are always up for debate. But this game?

Yea, you know everything. My post acknowledged the poor play. But you seem to think that officiating had nothing to do with an overtime, 1 point game.

Losers are people who get the shaft and are afraid to stand up against it. The losers are people who ignore ALL of what they see, point fingers and pontificate a holier than everyone else attitude.
Overtime is because Solo jumped into a horrible 3 point shooter giving him 3 freebies. Because Diarra, God bless him for his effort, doesn’t defend his guard and gives him a quick easy lay in making it a one possession game with 12 seconds left. That’s losing basketball not UConn basketball. Take those 2 plays and play smart basketball you take the refs completely out, it’s on coaching and the players not the stripes, simple.

Add to the fact the refs absolutely despise our coach, this is becoming a huge issue.

Agree with some but not all. Calhoun was detested by refs but also respected. At no point was he a whiny, arrogant coach instead he was consistent with his arguments and did get calls after getting testy with refs. And back in those days if you recruited for the next year you had no idea if someone was leaving early nor did the recruits so when the kid left his sophomore or junior year you had holes. Danny had holes this year and his choice to fill them he picked the wrong answer. And you couldn’t fill them with the portal back in JCs days , if he could have those NIT seasons would have been much different because kids would have come to UConn to play for JC.

LOL. Solo was fouled twice.

Mugging

Solo grabs the ball. The Seton Hall player behind him CLEARLY uses two hands and pushes him towards the other Seton Hall player who plants his feet to make it look like a clean trap, but his upper body CLEARLY pushes Solo backwards.
And the second player sticks his leg out and trips him

This team hasn’t lead a game at the half at Gampel since November 19th. We’ve also trailed at the half in 4 out of our last 5 and 7 out of our last 14. Our first halves are an issue
I would say it's more the 8-10 minute stretches in the first half Team comes out playing well then has a 5+ minute stretch where they play like they never picked up a basketball then close out the half better. Every game like this. It's like they feel oh we got this start feeling themselves and relax then the other team is playing hard the whole time

Newton wasn't already ready. He was more of a score first PG in East Carolina and didn't play good d. He learned to run a real offense and play some decent D. Spencer I agree was more of a finished product.

I said something similar and got a response attacking me for an opinion similar to yours…….

They need to start Reed, with him down low, they’re a much better team, and at the opening tip it would sort of set the tone for the game.
“What has Reed showed that makes you think he will be a difference maker? It surely isn't his defense. Problem is both of our centers have big warts.”

………sometimes the rather low group IQ on this fan board or the need to go after fellow fans is off the charts.

How do I dislike this??

Why would you dislike it? The team has some great wins and some bad losses. They’ve showed they can compete with just about anyone. We have had to deal with injuries, bad officiating and just an overall less talented roster than the last two seasons. Can this team still win the BET? Absolutely, we have beat two of the best teams in the league and should have beat St John’s.

They played like garbage yesterday, no denying that. They battled all game just made some bad decisions at times. Cant always fault the coaches for everything.

Does the first half count to you as in “battled all game”? Seriously they were asleep for 15 minutes of the worst basketball in ages. And consistent inability to draw out in bounds plays which always end up in the corners is on the coaching. Refs aside because this game should never get to OT, this one is on the staff can’t lose this one.

Because Hurley coached a horrible game. This was a historically bad Seton Hall team with no big men and Hurley played Tarris Reed 4 minutes to Samson's 27 minutes until Samson picked up his 4th foul. Because we're the highest level program there is in D1 basketball and he can't ever get his team to inbound the ball.
I know beating this drum is your thing this season, but the fact was that Tarris was wildly ineffective in his minutes. That’s the reason he didn’t play. Not some coaching malpractice.

I suspect Hurley’s NIL dig was trying to help Holloway out. I believe they are friends. When a high profile coach like Hurley says it, it puts pressure on the school and let’s school with an opening know it isn’t Holloway’s fault that Seton Hall sucks.

I hope Nowell and Abraham bolt. They have every right to
All of these recruits come to UConn with NO guarantee of any playing time. It is earned through performance. First in practice, then in games. There are literally multiple dozens of instances of Hurley AND players saying this. The players say it’s one of the draws of coming to the current UConn culture. A chance to prove themselves in the highest level program.

What you’re saying is simply absurd and implies they are somehow entitled to playing time just for putting on the uniform.
