Seton HeII Post Game Thread

Can’t be in that position but holy cow how does an officiating crew get away with what they did on the last two possessions and keep their jobs?

This stuff doesn’t happen in other conferences.
Val must think this mugging sets the BE apart from other conferences.

Keep nailing the freshmen to the bench.

That’s totally going to end well for us.

I think we should see if they know how to dribble a basketball - they cannot be any worse at than the group we’re currently trusting to do so.
And it sets us up for an interesting offseason. Hurley has deemed several players unplayable for this whole season and we have one kid who he misjudged as a player and it's all too much for him.

Embarrassing. Horrible. Travesty. Shameful.

Perfect description of the Big East and the officiating crew.

UConn did not play well, but they win walking in their sleep if the game was properly officiated.
Give me a break. Stop whining about the officiating. This is on Hurley's lack of a proper in-bound play.

That has to be the worst loss of the Hurley era. So much Jekyll and Hyde in this team.

And then some gimmicky football play that is usually used for teams to do some desperation scoring. Not to simply inbound it.
Gimmicky, yes, but that play actually got two people open. It's just that Alex made a bad read -- he should have passed to Hass.

Last sentence would have some merit if we hadn't also lost to colorado before. Having good refs doesn't change the fact that this team is severely limited and mentally fragile.
OK. What does beating Marquette and Creigthon, away, say to you?

Don't forget @Kitaman for saying "guys, it's over" when we were up 3 with nine seconds to go, inbounding the ball from under our rim at the end of regulation.
Yep I saw that, they should be given boneyard capital punishment and be burned at the stakes, for giving us evil mojo spirits.

Why should we ignore a major factor in the outcome of the game?

We stunk, they were worse.
The refs were not the major factor. We can’t inbound the ball. We turn the ball over. Our defense is terrible. Poor decision making. Yes, the refs didn’t help. But what I watched was a team that thinks they can come into a gym and win on reputation. SH never gave up, they out hustled us for loose balls, they wanted it more. That is why this game was lost. THEY WANTED IT MORE THAN US! That’s inexcusable and it reflects the lack of mental toughness of this team. When it gets tight, they make mistakes.

This one is on Hurley. Has yet to figure out how to inbound. Runs the same stuff every time that doesn’t work. How about put Samson in have him run down and throw it up to him. He’s been a very good free throw shooter.

I am ready for them to stop pulling the ball out to waste time with less than a couple minutes. When McNeeley had a clear path to the basket after breaking the press, he pulled it back. If that kid drives, he goes to the free throw line for 2. Instead, on that play, Diarra drove and they knocked his pass to Karaban away for a turnover. This team has to take the opportunities when they are there.

I could not agree more. You have to start playing Nowell over AM. It's crystal clear he is not a Big East level guard. And Ross....I don't know what to say. He is not any good. Give Abraham those minutes. It can't be worse.
I’d ordinarily say the staff studies practices and knows best if Abraham is ready, but then I realize they’ve also seen our inability to inbound the ball well this season too.

I'll be very careful how I put this but for the most part the freshmen have all received basically what they've earned in terms of playing time.

From a source within the program, of the three freshmen, one (I'm sure you can figure out who) was far more advanced/developed than the staff had expected when he arrived while the other two were nowhere near as advanced/developed as they expected. They admit that with the past couple of years (Karaban, Clingan, Castle) they had been spoiled, They believe in all of the kids but it will take time before they are ready.

I imagine (this is conjecture on my part) that every game coming down to the wire is limiting any opportunities for the kids.

I’m not even sure I’d say big. When need a big lead guard who can defended and a couple of athletes who can defend. Abraham may be able to fill that role. The guard will have to come from the portal. We have enough skill finesse guys. I’d expect Ball and Stewart to be really good next year.
We need way more than that if we want to go back to the final four. We need guys who aren't going to forget how to play basketball with less than a minute left.

I don't get this obsession that after a made basket you take yourrr timeeeee, let the ref pick up the ball and give it to youuuuuuu .. AND LET THE OTHER TEAM SET UP THE PRESS. Grab the friggin ball and get it inbounds and stop letting the other team set up their defense.
Yea that's a big issue, hard to say if it's a Karaban thing or UConn because AK is the only one who ever inbounds the ball but he does it every time and every time we struggle to inbound the ball because of it.

McNeeley got fouled on the drive & Ball got fouled on the last play, with that said, Hurley had a terrible game- got outcoached verse Pitino & now this- why foul with 9 seconds when you know your having major trouble getting the ball in bounds & Seton Hall is a terrible shooting team.
Exactly

Well as of now he hasn’t missed the tournament. 17-8 and a top 5 finish in conference isn’t terrible after back to back championships. I’ll take that everytime. To the recruiting angle, Hurley doesn’t really recruit that way. He’s shown to lean heavily on the side of staying loyal to his guys. He did it when he first got here as well. Maybe he should change that approach. We’ll see.
The Big East is only getting 3 or 4 bids max. If we finish forth or fifth with our limited quality wins, we're out.

Dan Hurley definitely lost the portal and recruiting magic touch this season. I think Lukr Murray may be the key to the Hurley magic. He goes, we could be in big trouble long-term.

Top three disappointing loss since Hurley has been coach. I know there were a few early where we choked at the end I just can’t think of any. I thought we won this game twice and we found a way to lose. One game is one game but you can’t lose to the worst team in the league. No matter how it happens it should not of happened because our will should not allow it. But this team is just trying to hard to be more than they are and you just don’t realize how important every part playing at optimal level is the key.

But this may have been the most disappointing loss since Hurley has been the coach.

Thread is moving fast I see many have already chimed in its official worst loss of the Hurley era.
